I was watching the newest episode today, where Rainbow Dash is once again being a bit of a immature jerk for the sake of plot, when i was thinking about the fact this is an element of harmony here. Now while jokes and etc. have nothing to do with loyalty, this is not the first time Rainbow has to have been taken down a peg, or put in her place. One would have thought after 2-4 seasons of growth and maturity she would have outgrown this, especially to be loyal to her word to her friends in bettering herself.
Now while i realize that the writers wanted to try out their zombie plot and needed some way to do it, it did make me think, it made me think is Rainbow the only loyal pony in Equestria? I mean why was she chosen to embody the element of loyalty?
That being said, it's one thing I have been wondering about the show. While Rainbow and the others are/were bearers of the elements of harmony, they are often referred to as embodiment of the elements of harmony.
But is this a special club that only he mane six can be apart of? I mean there are no other ponies in Equestria as honest, loyal, kind, generous etc. aside from these six? Or are we dealing with a, "special destiny" kind of deal, which i think is hinted at in the season five finale.
Just becasue I wondered if the reason Rainbow and the others were given the elements was just becasue they were with Twilight at the right time, or becasue the elements were meant for them?
The problem with the whole destiny thing is that it takes away from the character and build up of the story, as in these ponies just are kind, generous, loyal, funny, magical etc. and therefore the elements react to them, meaning that they rise to the occasion becasue of who they are not some pre-destiny compulsion, or becasue they were always meant to have the elements and etc.
