28 Pranks Later Review and Spoilers · 4:05pm Aug 13th, 2016
Basically, Mare do Well done well. Yeah, I know that comparisons were inveitable but hear me out about this. One of the fundamental rules of comedy is exaggeration. You have to go the extra mile if you want to make a joke or a prank work, at least in writing. Mare Do Well just wasn't funny! This episodes shows some classical screwball comedy the likes we came to expect from Castle-Mania or basically everything Pinkie Pie does. Her role as the counter prankster was absolutely perfect and props to Andrea Libman to not put all the verve she uses for her characters. It takes a special kind of talent to make that work. Not to mention we got a deep insight in their relationship: For once, Pinkie Pie is the voice of reason and even if she adores Rainbow's...Sense of humour there are lines that she would not cross. And speaking of things that works, the movie references sealed the deal for me because they were subtle. All those horror movie tropes were condensed in the climax to perfection and they didn't feel forced but just in the right place. All in all a good episode, perhaps even one of the best of this season.
They should've done a "Left 4 Dead" style sacrifice scene. I did like it where Sweetie ate the sewing machine cake, the whoopee cushion prank, and Celestia getting buried in a sea of scrolls.
4147597 Honestly, the comedy was spotless in this. It just worked. And Rainbow was enough of a jerk to deserve it, unlike Mare Do Well.
4147619 Yeah, I guess.
