Oh, my gosh, I died laughing

I am super busy, which explains the silence, but I've been playing the Gameloft game lately. The latest thing is a "Stranger Than Fanfiction" adventure, with one of the prizes along the way being Quibble Pants. In order to get them, you have to collect ropes made of lianas. Then the pop up is Quibble Pants boasting that his lianas have stopped Caballeron.

    Yes, there will be more

I'm sort of overwhelmed, still. If I didn't thank any new faves or followers, please don't think I'm ungrateful.

Anyway, I already have a sequel in mind, but there are a bunch of things I've got to do first. I wouldn't think of it if I didn't have some more stuff other than Quibble And Dash Fuck Some More, but I do. Work first, though!

Wow, guys, what an overwhelming response!

I'm just so pleased people liked it! I guess hanging back and reading a lot of stories and getting a feel for what people like made a difference. (And yeah, the feature box does not suck. I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about that at all).

    Hi! A quick introduction.

So, it seems as though I'm brand new here, but I thought I'd introduce myself. Hi. I'm Pegasub. I've been friends with Scoots2 for a long time, and she just got me into reading Rage Reviews and the takedowns of the stories there, and other good stories, too, so I thought maybe I'd join the fun.

I'm just so pleased people liked it! I guess hanging back and reading a lot of stories and getting a feel for what people like made a difference. (And yeah, the feature box does not suck. I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about that at all).

A couple of people asked if there would be a sequel. Um...maybe? I do have some ideas I want to explore, partly because they're a fun couple of characters to write about, but also because it's a challenge, and there might be some other ways to work in some other characters and other ideas. I know that one thing I like when reading BDSM fic is getting some variety in there and then having that be organic. One thing that was fun about this was having Quibble come up with some pervertibles or get hold of stuff easily. I know at the last convention I was at, someone was selling "decorative collars/chokers" with lambskin lining. Two words with the vendor and I knew those decorative, pretty "chokers" were meant to be functional.

So, yeah-- thanks for reading and the nice responses, and I'll see what I can do about writing some more stuff!

(PS: pretty sure I can't add "tagged story" if it's got a Mature rating, so for now, I'm not doing it. )

More on this later because I'm on a cellphone, but you seemed to be begging a sequel by ending on a significant Mutual Misunderstanding which, unlike most, actually grew organically from displayed character and was not easily resolved by sensible communication because of the characters involved.

Now I'm on a real (albeit beat-up) keyboard.

Rainbow Dash ... yours or mine ... is very loving but very, very bad at expressing love. Love means vulnerability, vulnerability means weakness, and Rainbow Dash can never display weakness. Especially not right to the face of somepony about whom she cares. This has been pretty much established in vanilla canon as well, where friendship is concerned; it's quite likely it works the same way where love is concerned. And Dashie is in general a poor communicator, save in athletic/military matters. Especially where "mushy stuff" is concerned.

quibble Pants is a new character, with only one episode so far, but he strikes me as someone who has mastered a particular fandiom (and maybe others before) in part to establish a domain of competence in which he can be awesome. I woudln't be surprised if his day job wasn't something horribly mundane (quality control at a garment factory?) and boring ... and by no means even one-tenth as cool as being a Companion to the Princess of Friendship and repeated national heroine. And he knows this.

Now, by sheer chance, he made friends with Rainbow Dash -- the Rainbow Dash, who has to be pretty damn impressive from his point of view. And by great good luck, they hit it off really well because they have the Daring Do fandom in common, and really compatible personality. They're acting like old friends reunited after just meeting ... and everything I said in this paragraph is pretty much vanilla canon.

Then ... in your story ... it turns out that she's interested in BDSM as well, as a bottom, and they just found this out in more or less accidental conversation. And she's willing to let him show her how.

Now, here's where the misunderstandings begin to pile up.

Quibble looks at this incredibly beautiful, famous mare who has faced down real danger many, many times and he's thinking "she moves in circles he can only watch from the outside, she can't possibly really be attracted to or come to care for me." But he can't let her know this, because he's afraid to show weakness in front of Dashie. So he just assumes that she's playing with him; she's interested in this new thing he has to show her but it doesn't mean any more to her than that.

And, actually, he's interacting with her in her most vulnerable sphere: Dashie is not comfortable in romantic situations and just marginally comfortable with sexual situations (she has to treat it like a freaking military training exercise to function!). And there's no way, no how that Dashie would have let him tie her up or touch her sexually if she hadn't liked him a heck of a lot. Maybe not love, not yet, but something which could grow into it, very easily.

Part of the problem here is that Rainbow Dash has emotional vulnerabilities but no natural sense of caution. Most mares in her position might take it slowly. But this is Twenty Percent More Awesome Rainbow Dash, and going slow is for weak sisters! If it wasn't for the fact that -- unlike my Derpy Hooves -- Rainbow Dash is generally a very good judge of character, her life would really suck because of this.

What Dashie tends to do is decide whether or not she likes someone very rapidly. She did this with Twilight Sparkle, for instance, and she did this with Quibble. She actually gives Quibble a clue that she would rarely trust any stallion as much as she's trusting him, when she said "only a few stallions." Quibble misses it, because he's bowled over by the fact that she had just basically said "yes" to him, in advance. (Yes, I understood that interaction, and just why Quibble wasn't paying attention to the details of what Dashie was saying any more).

So Quibble has a really fantastic time with her, and then he's thinking "Okay, back to reality. She doesn't love me, she's just playing, and I can't let myself think anything beyond that because it'll hurt too much when I find out she barely wants to even be friends under normal circumstances." So he tells her it's "just a con thing."

And Dashie is hurt by this, because she hoped it meant more to him than that, but she can't show it to him, and she can barely acknowledge it to herself. Instead, she puts the best face upon it to herself she can -- it was an adventure, that's all.

And that is a classic and well-handled Mutual Misunderstanding. Which, done that way, could only happen that way with Dashie out of the Mane Six, and only with somepony like Quibble. Which is really well done!

And pretty much demands a sequel at some point.
