A Comment on the Merchant and HIE Fics · 7:25am Aug 12th, 2016
So here's something I noticed in many human-in-Equestria fanfics. So, the main human character is at a convention, but he (because nine out of ten times, it's a "he") needs a thing for his thing. Luckily, this creepy guy has the thing, but he curses our protagonist and sends him to Equestria. Here's the thing, though: The creepy guy is always dressed like the Merchant from Resident Evil 4. No matter what the convention is about, there's the Merchant ready to sell you cursed stuff and send you to a magical place of friendship and rainbows.
Why, though? I've never played Resident Evil 4, so I don't know who the Merchant is, but why is it always the same thing? Protagonist needs thing, Merchant sells thing, protagonist sent to Equestria. What's so good about the Merchant? I'm seriously asking. What--besides author lack of originality--compels people to add the Merchant (or someone dressed as him) as the catalyst to the human's trip to Equestria?
I never understood that type of stories. Why always someone dressed as his favorite character in a convention ends up in Equestria?

Yeah. It doesn't make sense that they use the same character over and over again. I like crossovers when the actual character appears in Equestria rather than a human dressed as said character from a comic convention.
