The Cart Before the Ponies review · 9:23am Aug 7th, 2016
Hello there. Another week another episode. This time we see the Crusaders building carts to ride in a derby. However, it doesn't go to plan when they ask their family (honorary and real) for help. This episode resonated quite a bit with me. When I was attending community college, I took an English class wherein we had to write a final paper about whatever we wanted as long as it was connected to one of the other papers we had written that quarter. I chose domestic service in the United States. I had my family help me since I wasn't very talented at writing at that point (something I'm hoping these blog reviews will help me improve upon). I felt it didn't go very well. The paper became more their work and less my own, until I felt that it would be best if we put their name on it instead of mine. This is mostly where the conflict occurred in this weeks episode. My thoughts below.
I quite enjoyed this episode. When I started watching it I had flashbacks to Showstoppers wherein each one of the Crusaders took a role that they weren't the best at and it failed horribly. Thankfully it didn't have that as a lesson for the Crusaders again. This time it was more about the fact that sometimes older people don't necessarily know more about something simply because they're older than you and you shouldn't let yourself be silenced, either willing or not, because of that. It also had another message for the older viewers. That being to not completely take over something and shove out younger or less experienced others.
When we were hearing about Rarity's past experience with losing to Derpy (Muffins) I thought that they would go the route of having each of the older ponies transferring their losses onto the Crusaders, which thankfully didn't happen. All in all a great episode featuring more interactions between the Crusaders and their sisters. Next week, pranks, pranks, and more pranks.
