[Rant] If it's not Mega Evolutions... · 12:44am Aug 7th, 2016

It's goddamn-well something else.

For three whole years, people have been talking about Mega Evolutions. In fact, they've been talking about them SO much that it's gotten to the point where it's just become the norm for Pokemon. No one ever talks about regular evolutions, everyone just talks about how cool such and such Pokemon would be if it had some kind of Mega Evolution! Mega Arcanine, Mega Shuckle, Mega FUCKING DUNSPARCE!! It never ends... It never ends, goddammit... Why can't we just go back to regular evolutions again?

But then, one day, everyone stopped talking about Mega Evolutions! It was like a godsend from the holy heavens above that aided us in our time of need: a way to get people to shut the flying fuck up about Mega Pokemon. But alas, with every Yang there is a Yin, and in return for getting people to stop talking about Mega Evolutions, we get...

...Alolan Pokemon.

I want to make it clear that I don't HATE Mega Evolutions. I think that they're fantastic balancers to the metagame... when used correctly (*cough* *cough* StopUsingMegaRayquazaYouStupidKids *cough* *cough*). But like Mega Rayquaza, they got out of hand FAST. Everyone couldn't stop talking about them and what new Megas the new Pokemon games would bring! It got annoying real fast, with people automatically assuming things to be Mega Evolution and whatnot.

It was pathetic.

I also want to make it clear I think that Alolan Pokemon are far better Mega Evolutions than the actual Mega Evolutions. This is what GameFreak should have done from the start; change some Pokemon appearances and typings to help balance the metagame. THIS IDEA IS BRILLIANT!! And its even more brilliant now that we have some really game-breaking Pokemon in Alola that are sure to CRUSH the metagame sooner or later. My problem with them comes with the fact that now because this is a brand-new concept in official Pokemon games, people won't stop talking about THESE this time around.

Of course, with the word "Alolan" in their names, these new Pokemon would only be found in Alola. The fad would die out sooner or later and Pokemon fans would continue exploiting something else (or hopefully going back to normal evolutions, but I'm not crossing my fingers). But that's where another of my problems kicks in. This may very well only be the first of these new region-exclusive Pokemon forms. In the next region, we might have generation 2 Pokemon getting... fucking... Darwinian forms or fucking whatever.

I am fully aware that this is a tactic used by GameFreak to make sure their product is still talked about and stuff, but sweet mother of Jesus Alolan forms sounds like such a cool idea! I don't want people turning it into another annoying Mega Evolution debate where every goddamn "Top 5 Pokemon Evolutions" list becomes entirely Mega Evolutions. Now it'll be "Top 5 Pokemon Forms" and all anyone ever talks about are those Alolan forms! I know this is an inevitability when it comes to the Pokemon fanbase since if they find something to exploit they'll exploit the living shit out of it, but a small part of me still hopes that maybe we'll all just go back to the days before generation 6 when we were still wondering if Dunsparce would evolve into something.

And we still are wondering if Dunsparce will evolve into something, but I digress. Anything but a Mega Evolution will do, thank you.

Alright, I'll spare you my complaints for another day. Next time I'll be talking about some more Chinese Pokemon leaks that I discovered thanks to some other guys on the internet. Oh, and as for a hint on what we'll be talking about in that blog...

...there's going to be a Rugby Monkey Pokemon.

Fuck. Yes.

Also, GaijinGoombah did a vid on Eggescutor´s form

Rugby Monkey Pokemon

:raritystarry:

I actually like the idea of Pokemon that are known from prior generations changing to their new environment, although why Sandshrew and Sandslash have to change from Ground to Steel/Ice I will never fully understand. I decided to take a look at Hawaiian lore to just how well some Pokemon fit into the culture the Alola region is based on. What I found was quite intriguing, both Rowlet and Popplio (and by default their evolutions) have real world counterparts that are part of Hawaiian cultural beliefs, with Litten being the odd one out since Hawaiian culture does not assign anything towards casts (at least that I could I find). The Hawaiian Monk Seal

is associated with immortality in Hawaiian lore, and owls (much like Rowlet) are associated with protection.

I put up a blog earlier this week to aid in that discussion. I bring it up because we often hear how Pokemon reflect Japanese, which makes sense due to the fact that the franchise started in Japan, but now with regions clearly outside the scope of the Japanese islands it probably would be a good practice to take a look hat the relationships the regions and their real world counterparts actually seem to have with one another. I have yet to hear what the Pokemon mean in the context of non-Japanese cultural marks or terms. When I get my new Pokemon in Sun and Moon I'm going to see if they line up with anything in Hawaiian lore and make their nicknames the Hawaiian words for their real world counterparts.

4135993 Yup, I watched it recently myself.

More details later~ :rainbowkiss:

Yeah, I do to! :rainbowkiss: And I love the seal, BTW. :pinkiehappy:

It's at times like these I look back at generation four did and hope it happens again.
God damn Eviolite killed basically killed new evolution.

4136129 Me too, I just love the little guy. I can see where they probably got the inspiration for popplio just watching the video. So now the big question for those who are torn between Rowlet and Popplio, will you go with the symbol of protection (Rowlet) or the symbol of immortality (popplio)?

4136154
How did eviolite kill new Pokemon? :rainbowhuh:

4136160
Rowlet.
Screw that protection mythology whatever, I just want a Pokemon on my team that reminds me of Takumeme. ARCHER BIRB FOR THE FUCKING WIN!! YEAH!!

4136164 Take Dusclops (boy does that name take a new meaning on this site) and Dusknoir for example, both of there defense are about the same with the only major difference being Attack. So put on an Eviolite on a Dusclops it has 60 more defense and 25 more special defense than it's Evolution and only have 5 less hp, 5less Sp attack, along with 20 less speed but with 45 speed you're not exactly out speeding anything.

What sounds better to you, a defensive wall with slightly less speed and special attack, or a massively less defensive Pokemon that's only slightly better in hp, speed, and sp attack that can't really take advantage with its physical attack?
