Sun and Moon Stuff · 5:56pm Aug 6th, 2016

So I posted a thing regarding Sun and Moon a few days ago, found here, and I go make reference to culturally relevant stuff to the location the region is based on. We really don't tend to think about that sort of thing often, yes a lot of the pokemon over the years are culturally relevant to Japan, but after reading a bit about what some animals represent in the culture of Hawaii I actually noticed something that upped my interest. Two of the starter pokemon, Rowlet and Popplio, are based on creatures in the Hawaiian spiritual culture. Rowlet is based on an owl, which in Hawaiian spiritual culture is a symbol of protection; and while we don't know exactly which member of the seal family popplio is based on, in Hawaiian culture the Hawaiian Monk Seal represents immortality.

I am looking forward to all the new stuff, and to be honest, I'm probably more likely to flip a coin when it comes to choosing between Rowlet based on what I've learned regarding Hawaiian culture, I might even make their nicknames the Hawaiian words for their real world counterparts.
