I'm gonna put this under a read more due to there being a LOT of pictures and it's mostly going to be me rambling about the update and whatnot.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, DUDE, THIS UPDATE LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FUN. Last update was basically just "collect all these expensive outfits for prizes", which sucked for me since I didn't have a lot of gems to spend. I was hoping for a fun update like the CheesePie one we had, but now, I'm happy to see this one because...

Now, onto the story!
*casually shifts focus to Sombra's castle*
Now, let's take a look at those features!
You can give your ponies tasks to do! Granted, it takes them out of the shop, but you still bits and experience out of it!
And it actually shows them doing these tasks! It's really cute!
And you can do it with lots of other ponies, too! (please ignore those parasprites...)
I can bet you're wondering just what the POINT of these new tasks are, huh? I was wondering that, too, until I looked into the pony shop.
In return for getting certain tasks done, you get certain items that you can use to get ponies! Also note that there are other ponies added, but I didn't take any screenshots of them because they cost gems and not these items. (Ponies included: Cheese Sandwich, Spoiled Rich, and Wind Rider)
For those of you wondering why it showed regular Rara in the promo, but only Countess is available through Pony Tasks, it's because you have to go through the story to earn Rara. 
*whispers intensely* gotta catch 'em all.
So... If you excuse me, I gotta go through these quests so I can get me Rara and the other ponies. Oh, and before I forget, they added expansions to Sweet Apple Acres!

I actually haven't properly played this game before, though it's been sitting on my phone forever. I guess the icon changing from Coco Pommel to Rara (
) is because of a feature update?

Yeah, they change the logo to different characters depending on who the update is going to focus the most on. When they added the crystal mine minigame, Rarity was the icon.

Actually, that event had very little to do with her (as a character). There wasn't a special event in which you could get her, but the reason why they had her on it was because it was a fashion-oriented event. The event consisted of collecting pony outfits over the course of a week in order to get a special prize (each outfit had to be collected within 24 hours before moving onto the next one).
It wasn't very well-received and was very time consuming with very little reward.

I've been playing on my phone since the Sweet Apple Acres expansion, which was... holy crap, two years ago. Huh. Well, anyway, I just saved a lot of bits and only used when I needed to (AKA, when I saw a pony I wanted).

Tip for starting out (I originally played this game on my iPad before I had to start over on my phone, so trust me on this), be careful how you spend gems. Characters that cost gems in the store are actually easily obtained in the EG minigame. It's how I got a lot of my ponies (like Soarin and some other high priced pones).
