I confess, I've only completely finished reading through a pair of fics; literally just two. My favorite was SleepyBelle is Sleepy, because adorable Sweetie fluff. I will give a shout-out to Malozi's one-shot, Hat's Off, for sheer wtf quality.
My favorite series so far is Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive. It's only two books long as of now, but the series is only just kicking off. Still, the unique concepts, amazing characters and wonderful storytelling are worthy in their own right. That's the only series I've read in a while, aside from Sanderson's other series, Mistborn, that has pulled a plot twist that caught me completely off guard, while providing evidence earlier in the story that I completely overlooked. I had to read through the whole book again. When the book is 900+ pages, that's a big deal.
I'm an avid player of Pathfinder, a DnD spin-off. Yes, I'm a nerd. I'm a huge Soul Calibur nut, being one of the worlds top twenty players in SC4, if the online leaderboards had anything to say about it. I used to have a win-lose ratio in the high ninety range. Beyond that, I love RPGs, primarily Bethesda productions. I've become completely enthralled in Fallout 4 as of late, and I still pop in Skyrim every now and then.

Unfortunately, I haven't had any chance to play 5, and I've only managed to play a handful of matches of 4 at a friend's a few years back... Also, I don't have a copy anymore, but I have a memory card with my game data for 2 on the GameCube.

5 was... A mixed bag. The customization was toned up to 11 and the online play is amazing, but... They got rid of a lot of good characters and replaced them with unreasonably overpowered counterparts. They nerfed most every character, resetting move lists that had only had minor alterations from game to game. I feel like they wanted to balance the system a little better, but for veteran players, it was a huge kick to the sac...
I main in Cervantes, but I've often been told that I'm a much better Siegfried, Raphael or Taki. In 4, I can play most any character, aside from Hilde and Yoshimitsu, the latter by choice. He's just too easy.
In 5, due to Cervante's nerfing and overhaul, he's a completely new character, almost. So, now I main Nightmare. Taki was replaced with Natsu, who is made to be 'more accessible' meaning that the Possession ability is ridiculous levels of easy now. All you need to do is hold the Forward button down during a Possession attack, where previously, you needed to repeat the Quarter-circle motion every time.
I still play Raph, as he's not been too nerfed, but... Eh.

I only really ever played as Raphael in 2. I'm not exactly a fan of how he became somewhat vampiric from 3 and on...
Cervantes, Taki, and Ivy are characters I never really bothered to learn.
I play Yoshimitsu for the fun of it every once in a while, but he's never really been one of my mains. Same can be said for Lizardman.
I used to main Mitsurigi back when I started playing 2, but I kinda just fell away from playing him... (I've recently been trying to get better with him again in 3, but I haven't really made much very much progress.) I also used Link a lot, but who wouldn't?
Anyway, as for my usual mains: I really enjoy playing as Kilik (I partially blame him for making the bo staff one of my personal favorite weapons) and Siegfried. Forget Nightmare, Siegfried is where it's at. I can practically make him dance around the battlefield.

They nerfed Siggy and Rugi HARD in 5. Kilik is a mimic now, after training with Weapon Master more. He's been replaced by Xiba, who's a goofball, which bothers me to no end. Now I can't make or play any serious bow staff characters, because of Xiba being a dingus. His style is too... monkey-like. I get that his whole design is a reference to Su Wu Kong, but come on!
Lizardman's entire style was reworked. Now, for some retarded reason, his style copies Kratos from the Psp game. No explanation either, which is kinda needed since now he can apparently breathe fire (The Fire of Prometheus) and grow wings (Icarus Wings)...
Talim, Rock, Seung Mina and Zasalamel are just gone, with no replacements. Xianghua was replaced by her daughter, who was not Kilik's child, despite all the buildup they had for those two. Amy vanished and may or may not have turned into a rather compelling character called Viola. Her style is super-complicated and kudos to anyone who can play her. She's the juggle queen now.
Sophitia is confirmed to be dead and I don't really know what happened to Cassandra, but Sophitia's kids take their place. Nightmare has a new body, which is poorly explained and is a stupid plot twist...
The whole game is just a mess. Doesn't help that there is no real story mode!
The game has a pre-set story mode that forced you to play as Sophitia's children for the first half, then forces you to play a Setsuka clone and a new character named Z.W.E.I. who is bloody difficult to play. And if you know jack about Setsuka, any average player will be gritting their teeth in frustration as they face wave after wave of powerful enemy with a character that requires - not benifits from, but requires - Just Frames to play with any degree of competence.
No, I wasn't that pleased with that game. In terms of just the Character Creation and Online, I love it. I feel like those two elements hold the game afloat. But they screwed the pooch everywhere else.

I suppose I can kind-of-sort-of understand Talim and Seung Mi-Na (what about Yun-seung???) not being around anymore, but I'm sad that they didn't replace Rock with Bangoo (I dare you to tell me that's not a good idea), and I'm really surprised that they got rid of Zasalamel, what with him seeming to be immortal and all.
...I'm starting to think that the only reason I'd still want to play V is for the character creation and the ability to play as the guest character Ezio from the Assassin's Creed series.

Actually, I take back the thing about Siggy. He's not nerfed, so much as balanced. His stances were reworked to make them flow a little less flawlessly, without a higher degree of concentration. To an average player, Siggy will seem confusing. To someone who knows his move-set well, ending combos early to maintain stances or chain into new, longer combos is totally his style...
Rugi, though...
First off, they removed his 'Sheathed' stance entirely. I have no idea why. This limited his Unblockables to the 'Moon Stance' (Or whatever it's called) unblockable, where he spins the sword around, then lunges forward. You know, the one that no plain-minded individual would even let hit them? One of the most predictable and least threatening unblockables in SC4? Yeah, that. Only, wait, they did change it. They removed the second hit where he tears the sword back out, dealing more damage. They also puled it's tracking ability, so now you can just WALK AROUND IT.
He's still playable, but get ready to re-learn everything you knew about him, because more than half of it is either gone or changed.
There are THREE mimics in the game. THREE!
Kilik (Male Weapons Only), Elesium / Sophitia + Soul Calibur, for some reason (Female Weapons Only) And Weapon Master (All-Gendered Weapons)
... Why does there need to be three of them when the roster could have had... Oh, I don't know, Zasalamel, or Talim, or Bangoo (Because yes, that would've been awesome), or... Fuck anyone but three mimics!
He's not nearly so awesome... The problem is that, unlike Kilik, someone can just pick Xiba up and be good. He's got combos that practically complete themselves, tons of new low spams and does way too much damage for how fast he is and how long his reach is. Now, I've got nothing against his speed and reach. As a bow-staff fighter, I know those are accurate. But he shouldn't have combos that do half of your health...
Oh, and they made him stupidly obsessed with food. Like, all his openings revolve around him talking about food. All his victories revolve around food. He talks about food in the middle of the fight. His taunt is him getting a stomach ache because he hasn't eaten he... ugh, his personality is like mind cancer. It's not hurting my brain. It's hurting my ideas.
Talim was only Amy's age in SC4. There was no reason to pull her. Just make her older! The Tomfa style was awesome and now we lack any characters that use a fast, evasive style of fighting. Viola is nice, but she's a ranged fighter and juggle oriented fighter. Zalsalamel was the old juggler from SC4, so I suppose he was redundant at this point, but the scythe was a cool weapon with a lot of customizing potential.
Oh and Yun-Seung is also gone, for no explainable reason either.
The cut down Ivy's stances from four to ONE. She was the stance based character and you chopped her down like that? What is she now?
Oh right, the sex appeal. Because she stopped aging.

...Okay, Xiba kinda sounds like the type of annoying character I actually personally enjoy every once in a while, to be honest
While the lack of a character like Talim admittedly sucks, the my reasoning for why I can kind-of-sort-of understand why she isn't in the game goes along this line: (Disclaimer: I'm not as familiar as I'd like to be with her story & ending from IV) Given the time-skip between IV and V, I wouldn't be surprised if she returned to her home village and simply never heard about Soul Edge or Soul Calibur again, since she only knew about them after Yun-Seung passed by IIRC. I have the same basic reasoning for why Seung Mi-Na and Yun-seung are absent, though I'd imagine their homeland would have heard some news about those weaons...

Actually, that's unlikely. The story is kinda f-ed up, but... From what I gathered, skipping through a good number of the game's "Cut Scenes" as they look like this - I.E. no motion, with boring text and uninteresting plot - is that the whole world has become infected by Soul Edge's evil, spawning a horde of Malfested; the race once limited to those who wielded Soul Edge themselves - such as Nightmare, Zasalamel and Cervantes - and became tainted by it. The symptoms of this 'disease' are an orange tint to the eyes, a weird vocal distortion and paled skin.
This is so widespread that it's even devolved into a rather extreme racism, with people assuming malfested to be instantly and inherently evil and slaughtering them by the thousands. Naturally, this lead to mass-hysteria, whole villages being raided and burned, millions of innocents dying in a baseless, pointless war and some pretty stupid plot points. For example;
