Beheld the Beyond · 7:45pm Jul 31st, 2016

Just saw Star Trek: Beyond. Very fun, and Abrams seems to have overcome his crippling lens flare addiction, but I do wish they could hold the camera still during fight scenes. And that they knew what a nebula was. Here I thought the standard sci-fi asteroid belt was bad. At least that's supposed to have enormous space rocks in it...

Also, never before now did I ever think "And that's how the Beastie Boys saved the United Federation of Planets."

But yeah, overall, most enjoyable.

There seems to be a Beastie Boys song in everything Abrams does.

Hopefully, the shaky-cam stuff was also shot steady-cam style, and they'll patch more of that into the DVD release.

It was most entertaining seeing a Federation ship just get absolutely, utterly, utterly trashed, in a way that Trek (and to be fair, quite a lot of space sci-fi) has tended to steer clear of. (And even then, still able to lift off the ground!) I know that there are budgetary reasons not to prolong a space battle, but having ships explode into dust at the slightest jostle never really felt right to me.

The first one in the rebooted series is still my favorite. The only complaint I had, was about the sound track being too repetitive in star trek: beyond.

I just saw & enjoyed it.

I just want to see the Federation news flash:"Classical" music "sabotages" space fleet.

And it's a shame about Anton.

I rather enjoyed it, myself.

Never underestimate the power of classical music!

I was also impressed by how just about every named crew member got to do something really cool to advance the plot. That's a rare thing.
