I'm late on reviewing this, but nevertheless folks, I'm back!:D B
I figured, with the premier of the second half of the season going on tomorrow, I might as well get the ole cobwebs out before doing some serious reviewing tomorrow.
I guess the best way to describe this particular episode is...it's like a slice of light but sweet slice of life transition chapter cake.
Mhmmm cake:P Now, where was I? Oh yeah, this episode:D See, told guys, I'm rusty;)
Anyway, this episode was not only short, but it felt short too. There's nothing wrong with brief episodes don't get me wrong, but when it's entirely almost slice of life with no real significant events happening, it's hard for an episode to give an impression on the audience. It had cute moments, it had some funny moments (my favorite being Discord scaring the girls at the slumber party with his Return of Harmony balloonsXD Mwhaha! Still funny here as it was in the fanfiction>:D)
But even with cute and funny moments, you need to make them memorable. For example, Bride of Discord episode 7 was a memorable slice of life formatted episode because the slice of life moments were working towards progressing the story's elements. The slice of life moments helped grew Discord's and Fluttershy's relationship, it helped with Applejack's and Spike's relationship, it expanded on the sadness of the Mane Six's lives without Fluttershy, and then the episode lead to a powerful climax of Discord shattering his mirror self and crying. Episode 7 is technically a transition episode for Episode 8, but because of these memorable moments, the episode didn't feel like just a transition.
Let's talk about the song.

The melody is great,truesailorcomet did an excellent job as always with the melody<3 But Mothball's vocal range was not fit for this song, definitely a song range not suited for him as a singer and definitely not in his key. He needed a different melody to suit him better by far. Plus, some of the lyrics could have been twerked better to fit the melody.
But on the other hoof, I love the part in the song where Mothball starts seeing all the little animal families and he's imagining a life if his mother and hive was loving and sweet to him like a real family:'( Dawww the feels!xo
On the plus side, I have a feeling that I'm really really going to like this song:3! <3
