Fic Recommendation / Signal Boost (insofar as I am able to do such a thing): Escape from the Dreamscape · 9:19pm Jul 29th, 2016
Greetings my good ladies and gentlemen. As ever, I hope to find you in excellent health. I have a couple of things to go over.
First, I will be going on holiday tomorrow (my first in ten years, as a consequence of my Ph.D work) to the Lake District. I shall be doing a fair bit of hiking (here, for a start), which should be fun, assuming I avoid any calamities.
That said, my internet is liable to be a touch spotty, so I will likely dissappear for a week or so.
My second purpose for this blog is rather evident in the title.
I wish to direct the attention of my followers to a newly released fic.
Genre: Adventure, Dark, Drama
Description:
It was just an ordinary day in Equestria when slumber happened.
A powerful dream demon named Mara had escaped her prison, and has trapped Princess Luna in that very same prison. She's making the ponies play a widespread game in the dreamscape, where teams of siblings have to clear the crazy wonderland of the dreamscape if they want to wake up from the slumber, dodging every sort of nightmare made to feel all too real to them.
And the catch is that should you die in this game, you do not wake up.
And the ponies have a week until their bodies die, rendering their souls unable to return.
It's a race against time for the citizens of Equestria, as they brave the dangers of the dreamscape, forging bonds with friends, family, and strangers, and finding themselves in places they never thought they'd be in. But with the line blurred between fantasy and reality, the threat of being truly harmed by their own nightmares, and the fear of losing their loved ones being all too real, there's no telling what'll happen in this game Mara created.
Reviewer's Notes:
In an earlier blog, I said the following:
"There are many stories [of dubious quality] on this site which receive a disproportionate amount of interest and praise, while more deserving stories, through no fault of their own, languish in obscurity.
I feel it is the duty of users of this site to spread the word when they encounter such fics, in order to help give them more deserved attention."
I stand by these words. In that spirit, I feel it is my duty to recommend Escape from the Dreamscape to any and all interested parties.
Thus far, we have only the one chapter, which serves as a set up for proceedings: the OC antagonist, Mira, escapes her prison (as good MLP antagonists tend to) and is poised to threaten the world.
By itself, this isn't much to go off.
However, in good hands, the premise has real potential to be an excellent and unusual adventure. And believe me, my good ladies and gentlemen, we are in good hands; the author, Sketcha-Holic, has a proven track record of writing excellent fics.
Among her previous works, Brotherly Bonding Time and The Rock Farmer's Daughters have been particularly enjoyable, and are both likewise recommended.
However, in spite of this, Escape from the Dreamscape has yet to receive anywhere near as much interest as it merits. At the time of this writing, it has fifty two views and a greyed out rating. Given this is a potentially fascinating and unusual fic from an author of proven quality, I find that baffling.
I have little doubt that, in time, as new chapters are released, Escape from the Dreamscape shall find its audience. In the mean time, I am inclined to help it along, as best as I can.
I advise everyone to give it a shot.
I don't read much anymore, but perhaps I'll give this a shot.
Oh also, have fun on your vacation. Do bring me back a souvenir or two, won't you?

I shall find some suitably elevated doodad...
I love Sketch's work. Glad you're enjoying it!
Shucks. And here I was just about to tidy up and put up a new chunk of the Neigh review. Ah, well, it will still be here on your return.
I was not expecting anyone to recommend the fic this early, when I still have only one chapter up.
Even so, thank you so much! I feel so honored!
You're like a one-man Seattle's Angels.
