It came to my attention a few months ago, but I wanted to point it out here before the second half of Season 6 started
Because when it does, Twilight will have been an Alicorn for longer than she's been a Unicorn, in terms of episodes. (In terms of time passed, she already has, and if you count the movies as episodes, she already has)
And forgive me for being a negative nancy, but something about that just seems wrong to me.
Maybe... and part of me agrees that her ascension was rushed, that more of the following two-and-a-half seasons that have followed so far could have been used building up her character arc toward a more satisfying apotheosis. However, I think it also important to keep in mind that back when she first became an alicorn no one could have probably expected the series to have lasted so much longer. Most children's television is lucky to see a second season, let alone a third or more, and very few cartoons keep making new episodes after reaching the 65 episode syndication standard.
This is just all so much uncharted territory of a sorts, and so it shouldn't be all that surprising that awkward consequences would arise out of it.
4091736 Ah, that makes sense.
Personally, I rather like Twilicorn, especially in the last two seasons.
The thing is, Twilight being an alicorn forces the writers to treat her different. Season 4 feels, in many ways, like an in between point; Twilight princess status was a non entity. So, she was basically a unicorn, in effect.
Season 5 and 6, though, are treating her differently. She's had her character arc...and keeps on going. It's interesting to watch, for me.
4091959 My own thoughts on Twilicorn are highly conflicted, to be perfectly honest. I don't think the idea is inherently bad, but the execution thus far (while it could have been a lot worse) leaves something to be desired IMO. Becoming an alicorn does seem like the natural progression for her whole 'super-gifted at magic' schtick, but becoming a princess seems at odds with her scholarly schtick. And while I can appreciate that Larson had to work with what he had, Magical Mystery Cure is still kind of a mess.
So yeah, I dunno.

Absolutely. The execution has been flawed, but the promise is there
And in many ways, that describes MLP in general. I love the show - no question there!- but it is a flawed series. That's why I like seeing fanworks bring the out the quality that can be promised.
4092050 Quite true, on all counts.
