Pokemon STOP! · 10:57pm Jul 12th, 2016

Folks, a word of extreme caution:

If you've been following the news at all, or social media at all, since Pokemon GO! was released, you'll already have a pretty good idea about this, but please, if you're caught up in this latest madness, exercise good sense and caution when searching for Pokemon. Nintendo and GameFreak seriously did not consider the social consequences of this game, and it shows in some of the incidents that have been attributed to it in the last several days.

So please...be careful when playing.

Yep. It's dangerous to lose focus like that.

... Someone's gotten hit by a car, haven't they?

what happened? i have been busy with battlefield, left for dead 2,war game red dragon and ftl faster than light letely that why i have no idea

I have a feeling that this is starting to get worse than texting while driving/walking.

This is why I've been starting to call it "Pokemon NO!" :trollestia:

While this is very much true, I just want to point out that Pokemon GO! was apparently developed primarily by Niantic, Inc., if the company name attached to it in the Google Play store is anything to go by.

Not just that, but apparently a woman in Wyoming found a dead body when she arrived at a PokeStop, while in Missouri, four people got arrested for ambushing players at a PokeStop and robbing them at gunpoint.

Well, it's a good thing Pokemon Go isn't allowed here in the good ol' United Kingdom, or we'd be in really deep s**t here.

As if Brexit wasn't bad enough...

If I ever decide to play Pokemon Go then I will use a drone for some of the more difficult captures.

Ok, I admit I'm not a big pokemon person and I have no idea what's going on with this. Could someone please enlighten me?

That phenomenon appeared long before Pokemon Go. A lot of people lost focus of their surroundings because of their mobile devices.

There have been a lot of PSA following these incidents. I remember one where the cop said he witness cases going to people walking into lamp post, getting assault to, tragically, being run over vehicle.

When I play it, I just put the phone on low brightness, put it in my pocket, wait for it to vibrate, and don't wander into the street. It's not the game, it's the players.

4087210 lots of people have been. Some trespassing incidents, walking into posts, etc...

I won't even try getting that game. Taking out a smartphone in public where I live is an invitation to get yourself robbed.

Another dream this goverment's incompetence has obliviously crushed.

4087376 Pokemon Go is an augmented reality mobile game where people can find Pokemon in the real world and catch them with their phones. It's causing people to wander into busy streets, restricted areas, go out at night, etc, to find the critters.

4087508 Well, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

4087255 Yep there the ones behind it. From what I have read, it looks like they just imported the map from there previous mobile game. And all the locations in that game where user designated. People have been matching locations in that game to the pokemon stops.

4087255 In fact, Nintendo's logo doesn't even appear in the opening of the game. Only The Pokemon Company and Niantic.

Whenever someone makes an assumption that western people are smart enough to not do (stupid thing of the day), I'm not sure whether to be glad for such a complement or facepalm at the stupidity of such an assumption.

4088285 Dude, it's not just Western people. Stupidity is universal.

I don't have a device capable of playing it, so guess I got lucky in some sense?

4087297 Sorry to break it to you, but it is.

This is why I wouldn't play a game like this. I ran into somebody the other day who was playing the game.
