BronyCon Day 1: The people · 7:31am Jul 9th, 2016

An incomplete list of people I met:

Bad Horse (he gave me a hat. And many people hats. The Evil League of Evil got a few glances, but while the initial reaction was muted, we made quite the collective impression)
Bradel
Admiral Biscuit
Pav Fiera
Not_a_hat (properly this time)
Cerulean Voice
Corejo
MaskedFerret (she said I’m not as scary as she thought)
Trick Question
Pascoite
xjuggernaughtx
yamgoth (who sadly, I could not guess the name of. Sorry, dude D: Apparently I’m bad at guessing games)
Applejinx (briefly)
Skeeter the Lurker (briefly)
Seether00 (briefly)
Sweetcream (an artist)
Lunar Shine (another artist, though more briefly)
A bunch more artists
And many, many more. I should have taken notes. I even spent a fair bit of time talking to several people who I didn’t list here. I promise I didn’t forget you guys.

I also met GlacierClear in real life for the first time, but I’ve known her for years online, even before ponies – we first met in the Bittersweet Candy Bowl fandom.

That’s on top of Charlemane , Horizon, Skywriter, Haze, Axis of Rotation, Soge, and Nyronus, who I all met last night (I got to spend more time hanging out with Horizon and Skywriter today, and saw Charlemane and got to chat for a bit, which was cool).

I also saw a few people I met at Everfree Northwest, which was cool. Followed up with AquaticSun on our former conversation about RariJack being the best pony couple, chatted with Ruirik a bit, said hello to Bronywriter…

I’m not sure if I’m what people expected or not, but it was fun seeing people say “Youuuu!”

Apparently I am the “iron dragon of FIMFiction”. As if I would ever be made of a metal as base as iron.

Also, some people were disappointed that I wasn’t a robot.

But not one person ever saw me bleed, and I plan to keep it that way.

It was really cool hanging out with folks. Bad Horse is a cool guy, and very smart. The Advanced Writing panel was a blast, and Bad Horse went out and really hit it out of the park with an interesting talk about how culture shapes our notions of what a story “should be” across time. It was a very ambitious talk which inspired a lot of fairly heated conversation.

Skywriter was a cool dude too. He seems a bit shy, but he’s fun to hang out with. Horizon was fun as well. I didn’t get to spend as much time hanging with Bradel as I would have liked – and for that matter, an awful lot of you folks were cool to be around, and I’m sorry I ended up having to be all over the place today meeting everyone.

MaskedFerret is every bit as friendly as advertised, and commented on me not seeming so scary in real life and drug me along to some stuff. All part of my plan to lull people into complacency. :trixieshiftright:

But seriously, it was neat meeting folks, and I look forward to spending more time with folks.

I took notes on a number of the panels, which I’ll probably put up after the con is over. But the highlights so far were the Advanced Writing Panel and the production panel with MA Larson, GM Berrow, and Dave Polksy, which was very cool. The Sadfics panel was pretty decent as well, though it wasn’t quite as amazing as the other two. The VA panels I attended were kind of a bust.

I had a blast going through the vendor hall, and made it only a third of the way through in three hours. I’m either really good at it or really bad at it, I’m not sure which, but it is cool talking to the talented people who make money off their pony work.

Thanks to everyone for hanging out!

And if you didn’t see it, look at my post about the magi of pizza and being friendly with random folks in the hotel lobby.

I’ll see you all tomorrow.

Yoo-hoo! *waves*

I was there too! I would have gone to the AW panel but I don't trust the city...I got lost earlier too. :twilightsheepish:

Sounds fun. And yeah Skywriter is shy in person.

Was Penstroke wearing plaid?

It was a very ambitious talk which inspired a lot of fairly heated conversation.

Your choice of adverb is lacking. :trollestia:

I might make it to EFNW '17... it seems like it would be smaller. Trixie doesn't do well with crowds.

Yeah, sometimes I get the introversion thing going on. No offense taken, I hope.

Huh, sounds like a fun first day and wish I could be there but I live all the way out here in Florida so going to Bronycon is way too far out of my travel zone, so to speak.

Sounds like a cool time!

I wish I was there, but the east coast is a little too far out my reach at the moment. Oh well. Maybe next year, though!

4079851 Provocative? Stimulating? Utterly batshit insane?

4079793
Well, say hello if you catch me.

4079887
Yeah, if you don't like crowds, Everfree Northwest is likely to be more your speed, though it isn't small; it just isn't as packed as Bronycon, where there's hordes of people everywhere, all the time.

4079906
Not at all! I just worry because I'm kind of talkative and I don't want to make someone feel left out of a conversation. It has been fun talking to you.

4080189
Fair enough. Not everyone can afford to drop $500 to fly across the country and $200+ on a hotel room (with roommates).

4081571 No. Trixie does crowds well. 'S just like the mental image of that many people...

4081571 I liked your rock poem! :pinkiehappy:

4081675
Thanks! I need to get those typed up and posted somewhere.

4083646 I didn't finish mine. :twilightsheepish: Corejo and CV showed up so I chatted with them, but I'll probably post whatever I scribbled in my notebook.
