New Story Idea · 2:05am Jul 6th, 2016
So, a few months back I got an idea. It was actually a fairly simple idea. As you guys may know from my first story, I like crossovers. I like seeing how worlds change when they mesh together. However my limit is usually only two or three shows/games/books crossing over. Kingdom Hearts, as a result, is a bitch and a half for me to manage whenever I try and write crossovers for it.
Anyways, the idea was simple in concept. What if Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa from The Lion King went to Equestria while Simba was still growing up? How would a runaway prince change the world of MLP: FiM? How would the Mane 6 influence and change the future king of the Pride Lands?
I have this very... very basic plot in mind. I'm talking bare bones necessity stuff. I have an idea of how Simba and the Mane 6 would affect each other, and maybe how he would influence the canon plot, but not much beyond that other than how his return to the Pride Lands would likely go.
Simba, at this point, is somewhat cowardly thanks to his belief that he caused the death of his father. He hesitates and refuses to make big decisions without confirmation from Timon or Pumbaa, and soon Twilight. However, as he spends time with the Mane 6 and gets to know them and the elements they embody, he finds himself drawn to the Element of Honesty. NOT Applejack, but rather the concept of Honesty itself. It causes him to think over his actions and the way he lived life.
No worries was fine and good, but it was a way of life only those not in a position of power could live.
So here's the deal. I'm writing Tartarus Forged right now, and currently chipping away at The Harmony League as I slowly get it fixed. Equestrian Pride, the name of this story if I ever do it, will not be worked on much as my focus is already split roughly four ways. If I start it, chances are it will be updated very slowly and may go months without being touched.
So... what do you think? Should I take a swing at it?
Well, I have to admit I DO like "the Lion King", and I have to admit the story DOES have potential. Plus, Simba probably WOULD relate well to Applejack (albeit strictly as friends) since AJ would know what it was like to lose loved ones at an early age. Though, considering the Mane Six have mopped the floor with Mad Gods, I doubt Scar and his hyena stooges would be much more than a minor nuisance to them.
Oops. Sorry about that. Got carried away for a couple of seconds.
Anyway, the point is, whether or not you choose to do the idea, I will still respect your decision. But the idea DOES have potential. Perhaps hold off on it until after you've gotten a lot further in your Tartarus Forged and Harmony League stories. That should give you some think time.
I think it sounds like a good idea but it would seriously screw with what the movie showed. When we meet Simba as an adult he has fully embraced the "Hanuna Maktata" lifestyle. I see this as contrary to what Honesty would stand for as he is running from his responsibility and being dishonest with him self. Plus I just get the feeling that Celestia and Luna would take Simba to task for him just running away.
4077945 You realize that the entire point of fan fiction is to make the story different from canon, correct?
Anyways, regarding Celestia and Luna...
Celestia doesn't know any of that. The only things she knows is that Simba is the prince of the Pride Lands, and that he arrived in Equestria shortly before the Pride Lands ceased communication and trade. What conclusion would you draw from that? She thinks he was sent away by his family to save him from some kind of civil war. And honestly, this is technically true. Scar is Simba's uncle, and he sent Simba away just before the Pride Lands went to Tartarus.
She doesn't know Mufasa is dead. She doesn't know that Simba believes he was the cause of said death. She doesn't know he ran in the face of such a belief. All she knows is that Simba is likely in hiding for what she believes is a very good reason, so she supports him quietly.
As for Luna: Luna doesn't find out about this until after her return, which is a year after Simba comes to Equestria. Furthermore, she found out through dream-walking, and in my stories abilities that violate the sanctity of the mind have some heavy restrictions on them. Luna, no matter how much she wants to help Simba, or maybe even berate him, is magically restrained regarding whatever she learns about individuals from dream-walking. The most she can do is act as a therapist and/or psychologist for Simba during his dreams, helping him overcome the self-hatred that eventually forms in him.
You said Hakuna Matata is contrary to what Honesty means. You are both correct and incorrect. Read this, especially the part about Honesty.
Hakuna Matata, "No Worries", is a good life, but not a life someone in a position of power can live. I stated that in the Blog. Regardless of if he ignores his royal heritage, Simba is still the rightful King of the Pride Lands, and it will eventually catch up to him.
The entire point of this story is about Simba changing over the years as he interacts with the Mane 6, learning about the Elements they embody, especially Honesty, eventually to become a Lion ready to face the supposed crimes of his past.
To shorten this reply... it's all about context. Sorry if this came off as condescending, that was NOT my intention, just trying to address what you mentioned.

No worries!
With the link you provided I can see why you believe Honesty works that way and concede that point to you. Now with where you are placing it on the time line helps, I still see Luna throughly reprimanding Simba over some of his choices.
I would recommend definitely covering how you view Luna's dream walking abilities in story if you do this story because it will help the reader understand why Luna makes the calls she does.
Plus I see Zecora being great friends with Rafiki! (Hopefully I got that name spelled correctly.)
