I've managed to stave off some work on my Youtube videos to get back to writing while balancing my job's new hours.
Here's a quick preview
Chapter 3: Crazy Train (Part 2)
It was an exceptionally hot day as the harsh morning sun beat down on the dry, dusty, old town of Appleoosa. Though none of its residents seemed to pay the heat any mind, as the troupe of “demon hunters” trotting their way towards the local train station had become spectacle enough to wind up as the talk of the town. Awaiting Twilight’s group was none other than the old engineer pony, Smoke Stack, accompanied by Sheriff Silverstar. Behind the two stallions rested a considerably dated, yet finely polished locomotive. Its design, as Twilight observed, seemed to resemble some of the first trains ever manufactured.
“Welp,” Smoke Stack began, proudly presenting the antique engine to Dante and the girls. “Ah might’ve had to pull some strings down there at the rail yard, but y’all got yer wish.”
“Hmmm,” Rainbow Dash pondered, placing her hoof to her chin. “You really think we’ll get anywhere in this bucket of bolts? It seems kinda old.”
“Young lady!” Smoke Stack gasped indignantly, reeling back at the brash pegasus’ comment. “I’ll have you know that this ‘bucket of bolts’ has a history here!”
Rainbow Dash merely raised a skeptical eyebrow.
“It’s an Appleoosan heirloom,” the gruff engineer went on to explain as he lovingly caressed the side of the train. “She ain’t just some fancy antique for show. Why, this fine lady has carried passengers all across Equestria for generations. Sure she might’ve been in retirement for ten years, but I bet my bottom bit she still runs like a dream.”
Dante couldn’t help but snicker, “So tell me, old timer, does she have a name?”
“As a matter of fact, she does, boy,” Smoke Stack sneered. “Her name’s Dolores. And she was was the first train I ever drove.” The engineer pony let out a loving sigh before pressing his cheek against the side of the train, his hooves outstretched as though he were trying to embrace the massive machine.
Pinkie Pie sniffed and brushed away a lone tear drop welling up in her eye. “Those two were truly meant for each other.”
The sheriff then coughed awkwardly, averting the concerned gazes from Smoke Stack, “Theatrics aside, I can attest that Dolores here is as great a train as they come. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if she went and left those darn demons in the dust.”
