    On a two-year hiatus

As the title suggests, I am going on a two-year hiatus, I shall return in October of 2018 if all goes well.

In the meantime, you can direct all your inquiries about A Cultural Exchange towards Randimaxis either here or on MLPForums.

It's been great, hopefully, this will still be a thing when I get back.

    On Celestia and such

Now, it's no secret at this point, I am not the biggest fan of Princess Celestia. Honestly if that surprised you guys you need to go read An Exchange Of Camp and An Exchange Of Serenity again.

Now the big question that you guys may be wondering is why I take such a negative stance on Celestia. And here is where I'll tell you all about it.

When I set out to write I wanted all of the characters to be relatable, and that meant flaws. Watching the show there was no shortage of ideas on how to give Celestia a flaw, though I must admit I took most of my inspiration from one of my favorite stories here, Cultural Artifacts. The show portrayed Celestia as a sort of heavenly mother figure, so I went further and eventually got to where she sees her subjects as her children, and like any good mother figure she wants to protect her children, lead and guide them. However, as most parents know they wont always be there for their children, and thus try to prepare them for life after they're gone, Celestia is under no such restriction, quite the opposite actually where she will likely be present for the entirety of the foreseeable future.

This brings in her other flaw, her immortality. Because Celestia will be here forever she is constantly afraid of being unnecessary, to be cast off by her own subjects as a thing of the past terrifies her, so she does everything she can to prevent such an outcome. She has made herself indispensable to her little ponies by restricting their development, slandering outsiders, and changing records of history to portray herself as unfailing and perfect.

I think that's enough for now, though I may elaborate more in the future. As always, feel free to ask questions, either here or by PM.
