Hearth's Warming never happened: The three tribes went their separate ways instead of uniting. Royal Chef Amber Spice is a mostly model Unicornian citizen, but now she's getting exiled from the land. How'd she manage that?

This Sure Looks Familiar... · 3:30am Jun 13th, 2016

Disclaimer: I am not accusing Hasbro or DHX of anything. I just thought this was a highly amusing coincidence.

So you've got an orange unicorn mare with a saffron flower cutie mark and a poofy mane, and she has a bit of an attitude. All she wants to do is cook exotic foods, but the unicorn society around her is extremely unappreciative of it. (Apparently, your typical local unicorn wouldn't know flavor if it walked up, introduced itself, and bucked them in the face.) She has a good relationship with her father, and fond memories of cooking with him...

Obviously, I'm talking about this pony:

Perhaps, in light of Saturday's episode, you were expecting this pony:

It's the one on the left, in case you hadn't guessed. :derpytongue2:

I enjoyed the new episode, and I'm looking forward to what folks come up with during the mini-hiatus. We have Indian ponies with pointy ears! How cool is that?

And the idea that one of said cool Indian cook ponies is kinda like my favorite OC is a delicious absurdity.

Ehhhh... sure, I mean, there may be some similarities... but where's the fluffiness? :)

On the subject of the episode, I thought it was good... but it also made me hungry for Indian food, of which I had none.

Furthermore, she cooked with her father when she was younger, and now finds herself far from home in a culture that makes little sense, where they willingly eat disgusting substances she'd never even conceived of.

The parallels run amazingly deep.

Yes, this Saffron pony is clearly lacking in the floof department.

:rainbowlaugh:

Remarkable similarity. Why don't you use this excellent fan art which I've never seen before on one of your stories, instead of the I-can't-draw-faces-with-MS-Paint pics you have there now?

(DISCLAIMER: My brain is currently firing on five out of six cylinders. Accordingly, my sentences may get a bit rambly.)

My first thought on seeing your comment: How on Earth did Bad Horse, the Thoroughbred of Sin, find this blogpost?

As for your actual question, there are a few parts to answer about the question of why my cover art for Amber Spice's stories is so crappy and is not the lovely art featured in this post.

I'm not using the art from this post because:
A) I don't feel like the art here is an accurate representation of what happens in the story. This art involves Amber Spice being happy and joyfully prancing. While she does do that a couple of times, she spends a lot more of her time frustrated.
B) I wanted to use something that I had drawn myself. The art that's currently on Desert Spice was never meant to be permanent, but—
C) Inertia is a stupidly powerful and powerfully stupid thing. In other words: I was lazy, and the images were perpetually tagged with "Good enough for now" in my head.

Anyhow, your drawing my attention to the sorry state of my cover art has convinced me that now is an excellent time to replace it. I've been on an art kick lately, anyway, and my skills have improved in the years since I slapped together the current slapdash cover art. I think I'll start with Desert Spice, as it's the story that's still under construction. I already have a pretty good idea of what I want it to look like, too.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

But of course! Bugsy here is actually Michael Vogel!

What a :twistnerd:!

You are the first person to accuse me of this.
