Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Friendship is Card Games: d20 Pony, Ch. 9, Pt. 1

Goodness, it’s been almost two years since I last checked in on Trailblazer’s adventures. IDW putting out comics almost as quickly as I could review them will do that, especially given all of the G5 video media coming out concurrently.

    Conflicted Crossroads

I have an interesting dilemma with an upcoming story, and thus I turn to the Fimfic public (or that portion of it that sees these blogs) for its wisdom.

As you likely know, we're entering a midseason hiatus. However, that doesn't mean that I won't be able to provide a card blog next Sunday. Instead, I can start reviewing the IDW comics. Of course, that leads to the question of where to begin. My default choice is currently the Revenge of Queen Chrysalis, it being the first storyline and all, but I have access to the main series up through the Siege of the Crystal Empire, Friends Forever up through the Rarity and Gilda issue, all of FIENDship is Magic, the Equestria Girls special, the 2015 holiday special, and the Equestria Girls holiday special.

I'm accepting votes for any multi-issue storyline or any two standalone issues. Polls are open until next Saturday.

The first series is also one of the best.

I'd go with your plan if for no other reason than I'd love to see what sort of cards you come up with for wuv.

Start with the beginning.

I'd definitely start off with Revenge of Chrysalis. It really sets the tone for good pony comics.

Yeah, no reason not to start with the beginning of the main series.

I notice FIENDship is Magic isn't included on the list. Was that a mistake, or was it not in the bundle?

Nope, I just forgot about it. :derpytongue2: Thanks for reminding me.

IMO, review Rarity's individual issue first so you can start with a bang.

The origin of Sombrero and his followup return are what I want to see most. It really paints him in a whole new light.

At some point, do the Good King Sombra arc.

And Whinny Worl, the Derpiest Place on Earth. (May not actually contain Muffins Redacted, daughter of Data Expunged and Quick Rise.)

Yeah, "Return of Queen Chrysalis" is good except for the pointless, cliche misunderstanding in the middle. Really, even the best comics have flaws - except for maybe some of the lighter comics like "Zen and the Art of the Gazebo" and the one with Twilight's old teacher Professor Inkwell (can't remember the title).

I've only read about half of the comics, though.

Um, we were supposed to vote? All right, my vote goes to Chrysalis.

Oh, oh, what about the Big Mac comic? ( I think it's a two issue story, but I could be wrong). Something easy to delve into, but with plenty of it's own shoutouts and whatnot. (Also, I may have a bit of a bias considering Big Mac, but that's my own folly. Gotta love the minor characters of a series.)

Also, I blame you entirely, but I got around to reading the Return to Ravnica novellas, and now I can't get enough M:tG stuff in my life, crossover, official, or otherwise. (Damnit, I still want good fanfic of the Kamigawa block books, or the original Ravnica block books)

Of course, I love the Reflections arc, and Shadows, or Fiendship is Magic. Doing Fiendship would give you several small ones in a row.

But the natural place for you to begin is this:

--which I think is FiM #11-12.

Start from the beginning. It's the obvious choice, and later stories benefit from having already gone through earlier ones. Plus, the early run of the IDW series was the most consistently good it ever was. From Reflections onwards, it's all peaks and troughs.

The new comic, #43 has the Mane 6 turning evil after they encountered a new hot spring. Were they replaced by evil dopplegangers or the waters amped up their evil desires? The CMC, Luna, Spike, and Zecora will be in the 2 parter as they try to figure out why Twilight Sparkle has declared herself Empress of Ponyville, Rainbow Dash is creating Sonic rain booms at random, Rarity is wearing a Dr. Doom inspired ensemble, Pinkie is acting like the Joker, Fluttershy is controlling animals in the Everfree forest, and Applejack has turned into a business pony that would make Filthy Rich look tame by comparison.

Sadly, I don't have any easy way of getting access to more recent comics. Not the full issues, anyway.
