Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

    One final thing...

I have been advised by no less an authority than CHS acting Vice-Principal Ms. Cheerilee to use the upcoming Midnight Rising chapter as strictly a recap to relaunch the story, and not get into Lemon Zest until the following chapter, when I can devote a full entry to it without any split in focus. No, really. She did. You’ll see what I mean when the chapter launches, but basically, I’m

I have reached a decision on Midnight Rising...

Thanks in part to one final comment that came to me over PM last night. It wasn't a mean comment. In fact, it was nothing but a simple, politely asked question from a reader I hadn't heard from before: do you have to read the griffon chapters to understand what comes after?

Firefly chaper coming... · 12:49am May 30th, 2016

Within the next few days, most likely, and we will follow up with a second one soon. As we're at a proper point for it, these will be interlude chapters, telling the backstory of two future Bolt Knights, one directly and one indirectly. Who, you may ask...?

As has been said before, there are parts to this story that Captain Firefly cannot tell alone. She has therefore entrusted her quill to me for this chapter and the one following, that I might show how I came to be the mare I am, much as Blindside did earlier. This is my tale; the trials and tribulations I endured to get to where I am today. Be warned ‘tis not a happy story for the most part, but one I wouldst not trade for anything. It ultimately made me a better warrior and mare, one who wouldst serve my Captain and Princess well in many campaigns to come… not all of which wouldst take place on a battlefield.

Though this and the following chapter is mine, ‘tis the story of not just one, but two future Bolt Knights I will tell. The other is a mentor to me and many others, a pony I regret wouldst not live to write his own chapter in this tome. He, like so many others, wouldst fall in battle with the gryphons. A hero whose memory I now honor by living as he once told me he wished to…

By making my ultimate legacy one of life, not death.

Expect plenty of worldbuilding and some surprising revelations about both this other pony and thestral society in general. For those of you waiting for the next TLaTU chapters, I will go back to that after these two chapters are done. With apologies, those trial chapters are difficult and taking a lot out of me...

I am quite pleased by this.
