Least Favorite Character in a Video Game? · 12:19am May 28th, 2016

This asshole.

If you're not aware, I'm a fan of the Bravely Default series. I recently picked up a copy of Bravely Second, and I can safely say that I'm having a blast. The story was certainly improved from the last game, and there were just enough changes made that it felt like a proper sequel. Definitely a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Then I found out this asshole is in the game as well.

His name is Asshole, and his does generally asshole-like things. Because he's an asshole. But in all seriousness, his name is Fiore DeRosa, and besides me giving him the name "Asshole", I sometimes like to call him Dandy Dick as well. Because aside from being an asshole, he's also a dick. I keep saying asshole and dick a lot, but I think it's justified here. Jeez... This blog is one pussy away from being called "Team America". Oh, he's a total pussy as well, the bitch.

At first he seems harmless enough. A bit sleazy and rude, yes, but nothing too bad. Just your average "guy with the girls" stereotype we've seen in just about every RPG ever. That is until Ringabel, one of your teammates, decides to investigate DeRosa by following him one night.

What he discovers is an evil beyond anything the team can comprehend.

First, a bit of backstory. DeRosa is a ladies man, which we've already established. But earlier on, he discovered a formula that allowed him to create a perfume so potent, it made any woman, and I do mean ANY woman, instantly fall for whoever wore the perfume. So what was the best course of action? Establishing a base of operations in a city populated BY ONLY WOMEN, that's what.

Already he sounds like an asshole. And you're right; it does get worse!

Not only do we discover he's working for the big bad guy of the game, Templar Braev (which was admittedly kind of obvious, but whatever), not only do we find out he leads the Bloodrose Legion which had been terrorizing Florem, the city of women, right under its nose, and not only do we learn that Edea, another one of your party members, has fallen for DeRosa's perfume, but the final kicker... that final nail in the coffin is why I hate this man so much. We discover the perfume he made to seduce women...

...IS MADE FROM WOMEN!!

He seduced women with his perfume, brought them to his lab, killed them and then threw them into a machine to make more perfume to repeat the process over again. Why? Because he thought it was entertaining, that's why. He explains that he WAS doing this to rise through the ranks of Templar Braev's duchy by targeting women of high wealth, but the way he explained it in such a causal fashion like this was a normal thing he did on a daily basis just screamed how mentally twisted he was. A true sociopath if I ever saw one.

His battle is fucking annoying as well. His ability is called "Revenge", which has a 25% chance to give him BP every time you attack him. For those not in the know of Bravely Default, there is a system called the "Brave and Default" system. In a nutshell, defaulting gives you BP, or Brave Points, which you can spend to make multiple actions in a single character's turn. This is your greatest ally and your worst enemy, as your foes also have the power to brave and default.

See where I'm going with this?

But that's not all. Alongside this incredibly annoying ability, DeRosa also has the power to charm your allies, meaning they'll fight with him instead of alongside you. This combined with his insanely high M.ATK (magic attack) stat for this early in the game and the fact he spams thunder spells and heals himself every now and then, you will not have much fun when fighting him. Oh, and Edea is charmed when you start the fight. Fun.

Oh, and if you want to complete Bravely Default 100%, then good luck to you! Not because of the insanely difficult bosses and fuck all. Not because of the repetitiveness of the story by the end of it all. Not even because of all the world bullshit you have to go through. But because if you want to fully complete the game and get the best gear, you have to fight this guy-

SIX TIMES!!!

...the fight is worth it though. The Red Mage is a well-rounded support job that will surely help your characters out in the long run. But holy fuck, was there REALLY no other way we could get that job? I mean... holy balls...

Just look at this smug asshole. He knows he's better than you.

Now, who's your least favorite character in a video game? Comment down below and let me know!

Probably Sera from Dragon Age Inquisition

Least favorite character in a game?...Not really sure, a few candidates pop into mind, but one in particular, this guy:
vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/aselia/images/e/e9/Anime_Concept_Asch.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130216234557

Asch the Bloody. Now, I get his backstory is a big deal, he was kidnapped and replaced with a clone when he was 10 and he was betrayed by a person he looked up to as a father figure, so pretty sad. I get why he's angry, but the thing is...Asch whines, like a lot. I know people whine about Luke in the game, but it fit with his character arc. Asch's whining though?...

I don't need your help! I'll take him on by my self! Oh you all love me now and wanna abandon the replica? Screw you all!

Again, there are worse characters in games, ones who I hate more, I just can't think of them right now, I may mention another one if it pops into my head. But my biggest problem with Asch?...This one, little, thing he does...

Replica.

No good Replica!

Stupid replica!

REPLICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, you could make a drinking game for everytime he says that word. It's almost comical really. Natalia is also a potential candidate too, she started out with an interesting idea, but then she started pinning over Asch and... a lot of her depth was lost.:applejackunsure:

Again, there are worse characters, but for whatever reason Asch springs to the front of my mind.:applejackunsure: sorry Asch.

Toad.

I know my most hated character in all of Pokemon, bedoof.

3977438
...Yeah that about sums up why I don't like Asch very much. I still say Tales of the Abyss had one of my favorite arcs for a main character in recent memory, but yeah that video hit the nail on the head:rainbowlaugh:

3977443 My theory is that they hate bidoof so much they cannot even speak or spell it's name out of pure hatred.

3977447
Anyone else you hate? No, not just "mildly find annoying", but LOATHE to every degree of the word.

He sounds so evil!
For me, it is (Spoils for Stella Glow!)
Mayor Bonanza! What he does exactly, well you meet a kind, childish witch named Popo. Well, the Mayor turned the city against her, making her live in isolation. BUT, he also manipulates her into fighting off monsters that come close to the city, and she has to spin the windmill. At first, she thought it was to help bring water up to grow food. However, we later find out he used her powers to grow illegal drugs.

And, not only that, but he also calls her 'worthless' 'brat' 'curse' and she has to 'atone for her sins' just because she is a witch! And, when you tune her, a lot of his psychological effects on her still stay for a long time.

And lastly, when he is put in jail, he tries to win back his freedom with money.

3977453
Hmmm...probably...

Alright! I'm almost to the good part of the game! I just have to beat this next bos-

vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/9/93/Barthandelus.png/revision/latest?cb=20141110174258

...To this day I still haven't beaten FF 13, and this fu:yay:er is a big part of that. :twilightangry2: he isn't even an interesting character for Pete's sake! I mean, despicable as someone like Loghain from Dragon Age is, at least he HAS a character! Barthandelus, if he does have a character, I can't seem to find it beyond "Humans weak, Fal Cie strong lol." :twilightangry2:

Olivia Pierce from the new Doom game.

Spoilers for.... the few of you that don't have it? Maybe? Anyways.

This bitch....... oh this bitch. Where do I start? How about the part where she creates a demonic cult under the guise of it being used to help mine energy from hell, not to summon demons or anything we more or less treat Hell like an oilfield, and tries to brush it off. Then? A demon speaks to her and promises her power if she just opens the gate and allows the demons through. She does that. She then tells ALL of her helpers and followers? To let them be TAKEN OVER AND MUTILATED by these monsters. Oh but that isn't the best part..... the best part? She didn't give a shit.... about any of them. EVEN HER OWN CULT'S RELIGION. She wanted the power of a god purely for the sake of having the power. I think the only bad thing about the new Doom game is that after you kill the Spider Mastermind..... you don't wail on her sorry ass for a good two minutes.

If there was anyone that I would say o really disliked/hated, it'd be the Prophet of Truth from the halo series.
Not only does he look like a shrivelled and dried fetus, he used the arbiter to retrieve the Index, only for him to be executed just afterwards.
That, and he always hides behind his troops; using all of them as cannon fodder.
Basically, he's a little bitch.

3977584
Wow.
What a bitch. :pinkiegasp:

3977610
Ugh... I hated that guy! :twilightangry2:

3977878 Oh it gets better. Everytime she and Doomguy meet up? SHE ACTS ALL HIGH AND MORAL! Like 'This is for the best of mankind'. NO IT'S NOT YOU STUPID BIMBO!

Comment posted by Professor Tacitus deleted May 28th, 2016

3977404 She's immature, which can range from being charming to insanely annoying. She refuses to see any moral grey area, equating all nobility and all magic as being evil or at the very least dangerous, overall making her very ignorant and unwilling to consider different views, and worst of all: she openly mocks those that hold their history and culture dear to them as being foolish, and what's worse is that it is her own people's history that she is mocking.

I'm sure there are worse characters, perhaps even characters that I dislike more, but this is the one that immediately comes to mind.

Ooh, I got one that might be obscure. Deputy Director Shamada, from Star Ocean The Last Hope. Now, I'm only halfway through the game at this point, but from the moment you meet the fat bastard, you can't help but ask: "How the fuck did you get this job?!" He actually tells you to your face that he doesn't care about you or the crew of the other two ships, only the results(and by extension, how good he looks to everyone else). He is yet another fine example of "Be glad the game won't let me kill you."

FERN!!!:twilightangry2:
i.ytimg.com/vi/WZmGLecw87s/hqdefault.jpg
I fucking hate this guy!! not only is he more of a obnoxious douchebag then blue and silver, he has the nerve to act like he's better than you no matter how many times you beat his flowery ass!
and also the fact he treats his sister like trash mocks a traumatised girl that he beated in a pokemon battle, will leave you to DIE in a cage if you don't get on your hands and knees and beg for his help, insults a man who committed suicide, and he joins team meteor just because there the winning side!

he's also a sore loser,Fern absolutely refuses to admit his own mistakes. Whenever he loses, it's because his opponent cheated or got lucky. When he attacks his own sister at Titania's hideout, it's her fault for not joining Team Meteor along with him.

so all i have to say to fern is.... ( warning! extreme language)

3977610
Truth, not 343 Guilty Spark. Did you even finish Halo 3?
All joking aside, the one Character that I just outright Despise has got to be Edward Sallow from New Vegas. Dude creates a new Rome by destroying and assimilating several dozen tribes, then goes to war with the NCR and New Vegas, Destroys New Canaan because Joshua Grahame lost ONE battle to the NCR, and then has the gall to call himself Caesar son of Mars, despite the fact that Julius Caesar (the man he based his whole Caesar persona on) claimed to be the son of Venus.:twilightangry2: -End Rant-

The Ace Attorney series makes it pretty easy to hate its villains and for me the worst is Bansai Ichiyanagi ("Blaise Debeste" in the fan translation) from Ace Attorney Investigations 2
vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/f/f4/Bansai_Ichiyanagi.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150201003621
This 68 years old guy is the former chief prosecutor and current head of the Prosecutorial Investigation Committee, meaning he has much power and abuses it in every way possible (black market, blackmailing, taking Edgeworth's badge). Not too mention how he abuses his 17 years old son Sebastian (Blaise makes the most annoying character likeable). He's even arrogant enough to visit you in prison only to taunt you by admitting all his crimes. And he is also indirectly responsible for everything Von Karma did. And this guy isn't even the "final boss" of the game. During the first half of the final case he kidnaps the judge's son to blackmail her, but his goons accidentally capture Sebastian (it still works because someone else kidnapped her son too), whom he then of course punishes for getting captured. But you later get the chance to defeat him a second time as Sebastian in court. And even then you later find out even more despicable crimes he was involved in (which I won't spoil here). It tells very much about someone when even the main villain has more redeeming qualities than him (well, he has only one, but that's still more)

3978448
Never played New Vegas.
BUT, if we're talking about fallout universe, I'd either have to toss up between Shaun or Elder Maxom from fallout 4. Like, I know bith have their reasons for doing things, and I can respect Shaun's views, but the way they go about doing things is what gets me.
For instance, the Battle For Bunker Hill. Three synths are trapped by the Institute so they can be scrapped and reprogrammed. These synths are sentient beings, capable of emotion and free thought. But since they're an anomaly; doing something not in their coding ('genes' if you will) they need to be brought back for proper re-programming. If you're siding with the Brotherhood, however, instead of having a sneaky entry and a swift execution, Maxom just goes 'FUCK IT' and chucks 2 vertibirds and a full attack force at it.
All of that effort, all of those resources, all those lives that were/could've been lost...
FOR THREE FUCKING SYNTHS?!
Fuck, no wonder he doesn't smile, he constantly remembers how fucking retarded he is as a tactician.

3978173
I've never played Star Ocean before, but I can related with someone like that. :rainbowlaugh:

3978387
Oh yeah, speaking of Pokemon Reborn, I'm not sure if I'll get back to it. The level cap has frightened me of. In a sense, I'd much rather be having fun with my Pokemon game instead of worrying that my Pokemon won't listen to me. So... yeah. :applejackunsure:

3978448
Not sure if my tiny brain really understands what's going on... :twilightsheepish: I've never really played any Fallout game before, besides that short hour or so with my friend's copy of Fallout 4.

3978496
Wait, what's Ace Attorney Investigations? :rainbowhuh:

3978611
Do you know the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series from Capcom? You know, where you are an attorney and solve murder crimes in court by examining testimonies?
Investigations is a spin-off series in which you play the famous rival Miles Edgeworth and solve crimes already on the crime scene. (It plays very similar, but has some unique mechanics)

3978670
Oh wait, I think I HAVE heard of those! Yeah, I remember now! They were never released in America, right? Well, obviously not; you said so yourself. :rainbowlaugh:

3978602 it's cool man i understand that the challenge of the game is not for everyone.

I'll be honest, I do find Fiore to be generally near the top of my most hated list as well; If only because on top of being a slimy villain and murderer, he's officially a Red Mage. Playing the older Final Fantasy games, I have always been fond of the Red Mages, and especially the original Red Wizard, one of the great heroes of all time(heck, as far as NES goes and every other version since, you see the Red Mage among the default classes right away). So THIS guy completely tarnishes the class in a way no other has before(not even Julius from Seiken Densetsu), and that's the icing on the cake for me.

3978813
Only the second game was japan-only
Kinda sad because it's way better than the first one

3978606
It's mostly just the history buff in me getting butt hurt over something small and making it a big joke.

Reminds me of that one alien disgused as Odin from Doctor Who. Basically, he claimed to be "insert badass warrior culture god", took them onto his ship, claiming it to be warrior paradise, and then liquidated the best warriors, and drank their juice to gain testosterne boosts, and increased combat abilities

3977457
:pinkiegasp: you also played Stella Glow!

3994378
Ah, I remember that episode! I liked that one, actually. :rainbowlaugh:

4001683
WHY IS IT I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO HASN'T PLAYED THESE HIDDEN GEM GAMES?!?!?! :flutterrage:

4001698
Eh you gotta search for em.:applejackunsure:
Stella Glow did have one of my major "Rage quit moments" in a game. Though I do confess it's a pretty damn fun Strategy RPG. I usually can't get into SRPGS that much, but this one did a damn good job.

4001718
Actually, are there any hidden gem games you know of on DS or 3DS that you can recommend to me?

4001726
Well the aforementioned Stella Glow.
Rune Factory 4 (not everyone's cup of tea but I absolutely adore it c:)
This also just came out
http://www.gamestop.com/nintendo-3ds/games/langrisser-reincarnation-tensei/126991
Don't know much about it, apparently it's a spin off of the "Growlanser" series of games.

Pretty sure you would have heard of The World Ends With You, but I'll list it anyway.

There is also the Etrian Oddesy series, which I know nothing about but people seem to really, really like.

I'll list more if they pop into my head though.

4001770
Honestly, just when I think jrpgs are dead, the good ship 3DS comes along and pumps out so many great games, brings a tear to my eye.:pinkiesad2:
And of course, 2016 promises the return of so many jrpgs! :pinkiehappy:

4001683 Yup! And I loved it!:pinkiehappy:

4001776
:pinkiehappy: yay~
sadly haven't beaten it yet. in the middle of this really obnoxious bossfight that split my party in half for two battles. I spent most of the game levling Nonoka and Rusty, so to lost them in the first fight while having to fight 4 bosses with Alto, the witches and a level 9 Klaus kinda leaves me at a disadvantage. Which makes me sad because I'm curious to see where the plot goes next.:pinkiesad2:
