CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME EATX LGA1151
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum Certified

Nice lighting

3974572 It's actually pretty easy. You just plug the components into each other, hook up some wires, and then you're good to go.

Curious, how much did the SSD set you back? I need to upgrade MacBook Pro and a Mac mini.:rainbowlaugh:

3974575 Thanks! It comes in ten different colors.

Wtf. I have the same in my Pc. That's so weird... apart from i'm getting a GTX 1080 now....

3974580 I got that SSD from another follower for $50 used when I first got into building computers.

'One of your followers' sunk over 1300 dollars into this
Now that's what I call support

Looks almost closer to being a fish tank than a computer color wise. I've never been one for flashy lights on a computer but damn son. I like it!

3974581 I'll have to check it out. I got a $30 case when I built my PC and I'm looking to get a nicer one. I may just make my own though.

Fantastic. I hope you enjoy it.

Cool, that lighting effect is Badass. And yes, the caps was on purpose.

GOD DAMN THAT'S COOL AS HELL MAN

Nice. Reminds me it's time for me to upgrade my five year old PC.

Yay! Gonna have to trawl through the backlog of your fics to celebrate...ugh, will my read later pile ever do anything but build at this rate?!?

So how high do you have the OC on that monstrosity?

3974666 the CPU is stable at 4.7ghz right now.

3974572 how else do you think they're made lol

My desktop has a 550 gtx... thats like stone age technology at this point and I just have to reinstall windows to get it running again but I don't know what game I'd use it for at this point.

3974825 Skyrim? Mid settings Warframe? The possibilities are...well, they exist. But! On the bright side, the GTX-1000 series drops in like a month and the GTX-1060 should run for about 200-220 USD and match or outperform the current GTX-970. ;)

3974835 Don't forget DOOM! I never played the series growing up, but damn this game is super fun!

If you have 4x4GB of RAM, you have 16 GB, not 8 :P

3974841 I was talking about this guy's GPU. It could probably run DOOM on low at about 30-40 fps consistently, but that's about it. xD

The only thing this PC is missing is Scootabuse :pinkiecrazy:

I looked at the cost for those parts and I would feel ripped off if I had to pay for them. For that price I can go X99 with a GTX 980 Ti. However, you were given these and the mobo and case will make you the envy of many people. That's a nice case and thankfully it's dustproof. If it isn't dust proof-RIP.

Case Review by HardwareCanucks.
Motherboard Review by OC3D.

There are several issues with this build.

1. GTX 970. The GTX 1070 will be coming out within a few weeks and for approximately $380USD you'll have a Maxwell Titan-X class performance for under half that price. The catch is that these reference cards are heavy as fuck and the Board Partners will release their own versions with their aftermarket coolers sometime later. I recommend you sell that GTX 970 to help purchase a GTX 1070. (insert 7.5GB VRAM joke here)

2. Samsung's EVO 840. The EVO 850 writes faster (generally) and lasts longer. Not to mention the 840's cost too much for whatever reason.

3. Concerning wattage, cooling and overclocking.
*850w PSU. That's overkill. Where's the SLI?
*AiO watercooler. Overkill if no OC.
*Unlocked i7 processor.
*Low memory speed. 2666Mhz should be the dregs of DDR4 speeds.
You would have had a great rig to OC, but that RAM will hold you back. You will be unable to squeeze out more value from your CPU and RAM. Edit: reducing RAM multiplier while increasing base clock keeps the memory at stock speed.

The good thing is that the 6700k runs at 4.0 Ghz. Whereas the 5820k and 5930k run at 3.3 Ghz and 3.5Ghz respectively but comparing those X-series to the 6700k isn't fair because of the extra cores.

I can't help but shake my head and reel in horror at the terrible misallocation of funds if one were to purchase all this. If someone were to spend that much on a gaming rig that was expected to last at least 5 years then I recommend something like this:

With that build you can OC like mad, but the draw back is that you have a case which isn't made to dampen sound and has only 1 SSD bracket on the motherboard tray. If you had gone with a Define R5 by Fractal Design, you would spend less, get sound dampening case and won't hear those loud fans as much. Then again since you'll only be able to OC the GPU maybe that won't matter with this case. Additionally, you can buy LED strips, like the ones CableMod sells.

You can also watch this video for a comparison of LED strips from two brands.

But who the hell cares about any of this? TL:DR omg LEDs, big letters=moar powah, SSD, graphics cards! Errmahgurrd nu computer!
cringe

Personally, I'm going to invest in the X99 chipset with a GTX 1080 SLI config.
I hope that rig lasts seven years. May it serve you faithfully. Make Lord Gaben proud and spread the keks.

Glad it worked out for you. Sweet rig.

3974592 Ah, case of extremely good timing then. Cool, and thanks for sharing!

But can it run Crysis?

3975082 Those other blog posts were for a different computer.

3975042

1. GTX 970.

Got this a few months ago for free, thankfully. I've been running a budget build for the past year and a half. I did have to buy a third party cooler for this, so I don't know how well it would sell, if I even wanted to do that.

2. Samsung's EVO 840. The EVO 850 writes faster (generally) and lasts longer. Not to mention the 840's cost too much for whatever reason.

Got this for $50 used from a follower when I first started talking about building my own desktop.

*850w PSU. That's overkill. Where's the SLI?

When I get a job, I'll figure out what I can do with the 1000 series of cards.

*AiO watercooler. Overkill if no OC.

Why do you think I got a good one? lol

*Low memory speed. 2666Mhz should be the dregs of DDR4 speeds.

The RAM came as a gift. Also, this processor can only run up to 2133mhz RAM, as shown by intel's specs page: http://ark.intel.com/products/88195/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz

The good thing is that the 6700k runs at 4.0 Ghz.

It's now running at 4.8 Ghz. :P

3975092 I dunno, never played it. XP

3975127
I'm greatly concerned about the remaining lifespan of the used items. As I stated before, I hope it lasts long.

I can't wait to blow money on a rig of my own. I'll still be keeping my Xbone though, I love consoles too much.

Much purple, such smart :trollestia:

Nice pc, Twilight approves it.

3974871 um... last I checked 4x4 is 16.
3975170 Those are the parts I would actually not worry about having issues being used minus the GPU.
3975110 Ah I see, hope you get the RMA for the other one then. Enjoy that nice case, I'm thinking of going back to a tower at some point once I consolidate all my crap and don't need as much space.

I'll be honest... I'm just a backwoods Doughboy that lives in the ass end of Nowhere In the Backwoods of western Kentucky more than ten miles from any town with a population of more than 1000 and i haven't got a damn clue what all them parts are or how in the hell you put'em together... But... That's one slick ass computer!:moustache:

It completely blows my mind that one of your follows sold you a 1TB SSD for $50. Incredible deal, and looks like a pretty awesome rig. Better than mine in almost all ways, and mine still runs nearly everything at max settings. This should run you 2-3 years with no issues, then after that all I'd recommend replacing is the GPU for a GTX 1070 or 1080. Should have lowered significantly in price by then, and it's still a HUGE upgrade.

That's a real nice pc you've got. I'd be happy to have even half as good as yours, but I'm stuck with a "pc" that has Intel pentium dual e2140 and 2 gigs of ddr2 800mghz ram and no external video card.

You weren't kidding when you said it was one hell of a computer. I recently went broke after months of saving to buy myself a Yoga 900 for school and home use (as well as a light gaming laptop for XCOM Enemy Within and a few Popcap games. :derpytongue2:) After another couple of months I will hopefully be able to build myself something for the rest of my Steam games that I used to play on an old desktop that's starting to die (I added in a new power supply, graphics card, and processor heatsink back when the 450 GTS was high end and can't be bothered with the outdated desktop anymore.) Either that or I'll cave and finally buy myself a TV that's actually big enough to see anything on. My current TV is only like 20 inches :rainbowlaugh:. Anyway

Congratulations on your new PC!

Bit of a low quality picture because it was recorded on my phone a while back, and yeah, that's a remote to change LED colors.

Here's a price list of my build.

3996110 Nice. There's a button on my case that allows me to cycle through the ten colors.

That is a beautiful rig! How does it run?

I remember when I built mine I was the happiest(and proudest) person on the planet :rainbowlaugh:
