A Terrible End To A Horrible Season: "The Flash" Keeps Getting Worse (SPOILERS) · 1:12am May 25th, 2016

So season two of The Flash just ended.

The only motivation I have to watch season three is morbid curiosity.

Just how do the writers intend to deal with that clusterfuck train wreck of an ending?

After the most abysmal season I've had the displeasure of watching of any show since Heroes, The Flash season finale was mind-numbingly stupid action after painfully forced bit of drama after nonsensical bit of science fiction buggery. At the end, it seemed as though they were preparing to put roughly half the cast on a bus.

And then in the last three minutes of the episode, Barry went back in time and erased his entire timeline from existence by killing Reverse Flash and saving his mother, effectively retconning every single episode of The Flash aired to date.

I just...

WHY?

WHAT?

WHY?

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT?

Are the writers just that angry at being called out on how badly they suck at their jobs that they decided to kick us all in the nuts at the end of the season?

Have they all been fired and this was their grand kiss-off to Berlanti and the angry fans?

WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT OF THIS BULLSHIT?

So yeah. I'll watch at least the season premiere this fall. Just to see how they intend to deal with this INSANE "plot twist".

But goddammit, this is not how you write a show.

...actually...
There was actually an entire comic plotline of the Flash based around him doing exactly that...and then discovering the consequences of messing with time travel and eventually having to go back and undo that because his actions basically twisted the entire world due to the butterfly effect.

Seems to be how you write comics though. What just happened is basically the TV version of the start of the Flashpoint story...in where Barry went back in time to stop his mom's murder and screwed up EVERYTHING. And when he tried to fix it it resulted in the 'New 52.'

In fact...I wonder if the ending wasn't a last minute change or something because of Supergirl being kicked over to CW, and this is how they're going to merge that show into the Arrowverse.

This is what happens when your mom's name is not Martha.

Hell, I'd like to claim I sniffed outlet this possibility when I dropped the Flash halfway through episode 2.2, but I think I just have a limited tolerance for DC live action TV. I had at best a love/hate relationship with Smallville, and I barely tolerated Arrow for its first two seasons.

Well, there's always Luke Cage...

Eh, they needed to break the timeline so they would have an excuse for the four-way crossover with The Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl, and some other show that I don't watch. No, I don't watch the other three, either.

3969905 The thing is...this isn't a comic book, it's a TV show. Yes, it's a TV show based on a comic book, but that doesn't mean you write it the same way. Comic books are designed for this kind of dodgy, sideways-logic writing. TV shows aren't, and when a TV show's writing goes sideways like this, it's less excusable.

Whelp, this is probably the point where Barry's habit of mucking around with history finally has some negative consequences. As I've written in my own blog recently, every time Barry changed the past before, things always got better, but as Tatsurou pointed out, saving his mother is the premise behind Flashpoint, so I predict that things are about to go up shit's creak now.

Zef

Maybe DC Comics editorial should've let the Flash writers know that everyone thought so badly of Flashpoint/Nu52 that they're undoing it next month.

I'm glad I stopped watching this then. Meanwhile, last week's season finale for Agents of Shield was an emotional rollercoaster ride of epicness. Like, wow.

Okay, now that I'm caught up in the episode... I don't agree with you that the series is getting worse. Honestly, except for a few episodes, I've been totally fine with it. I imagine his new screwup might allow them to mix it up with Supergirl in the future, tho. Or they could go crazy and he basically jumpstarted Earth-3? Maybe now his dad does the experiments and becomes the original 80s Flash again.

Is now a good time to mention that Flash canonically does have the power to travel back in time due to the Speed Force? It...never ends well. I think Flash saved his mom in the Flashpoint Paradox and by doing that killed every hero on earth. If not Death Battle lied to me.

What's now, I haven't been watching the Flash show, but if he did time travel, things just got even worse

I stopped watching when he had to run at the unheard of relativistic speeds of Mach 2 in a supercollider tunnel, in order to run into a single proton - while forgetting that because they didn't remove all the air first (supercolliders need to run in a vacuum yo) AIR HAS PROTONS.

I had such hopes for the show. :(

Yeah, I admit that screwing with time is a bad thing, but you should NEVER use it to invalidate the entire show's plot, continuity, and everything else.

Not even Legends of Tomorrow did that, and those guys screw around with time a LOT...

Maybe they're going to do what DC itself is doing and blame all the stupid shit on the Watchmen like they're doing with the failed New 52. It's probably what they're also going to do to explain away Scooby Apocalypse and Wacky Raceland.

FLASHPOINT PARADOX, BITCHES!!

Didn't reverse flash already stop existing? That and the time remnants shows that even changing the past in that show doesn't change the present at all it just created yet another new universe.

Now that i think on it he'll probably go through flashpoint paradox, stop himself from saving his mom, go back to that day, stop the first him from saving her, grab child barry, and get him away from Reverse Flash and through that set the timeline back on course
