so I tried to present my case to my parents on why I should get short hair · 3:15am May 14th, 2016

and my dad said he's worried if I get short hair I might be perceived as representing the "worldly side" in the "battle of gender" being waged between Christians and "the evils of the world"
And he said that "knowing (my) previous track record" he could see how I would want to get short hair to conform with the changes of society and be anti-God
And then he told me how h doesn't think I'm "lesbian" or "trying to be a boy" but that short hair is a visual representation of "deviation from biblical norms"
(At this point I almost started crying)

and then he preceded to saw that every example of WOMEN'S short hair I showed him made her look like either a lesbian or a guy

But I did find one haircut that miiiight work out but I had to promise I would wear more makeup to look more feminine so people wouldn't mistake me as a guy (or lesbian)

So I might get short(er) hair but it will have to be feminine and aaaaaa (I'm getting a haircut anyway tomorrow, I just don't know how short I can get it)

*hugs* Sorry to hear that happened, though if you want a counter point to his argument. Joan of Arc dressed like a guy, and is also hailed as a saint. So his statements about short hair are invalid, and very much a load of crap.

3943237 yeah but the thing is Joan of arc impersonated a guy and I think that's what my dad is worried about
Me "trying to be a guy"

3943252 That may be so, but look what she accomplished. She proved that the norm or what's said to be right by human standards are not all ways right. And there isn't a single place in the bible that talks about hair styles for men and women.

I think Paton Oswald said it best in one of his comedy specials, "I missed the part of the bible where Jesus was real catty and bitchy about fashion."

And looking at what you dad said about short hair, I have got to ask. Has he been living under a rock for the past hundred or so years. Women and men have been going with both long and short hair for a long time now, even Jesus looks like a fucking hippy in every painting that portrays him. Bet Jesus would have loved going to Woodstock back in the early 70's, I could see him in bell bottoms and a tie dye shirt while handing out flowers and beads.

Any who, ya your dad has a lot of holes in his statement that I could stick my hand into and say, "When the wind blows does it make a whistling sound?"

I don't mean any disrespect to your dad, it's just the jokes come with the territory some times.

If you want short hair your parents should respect that. Also I'm going to miss your blond hair XD

Thing like this are why I left the Christian faith, it just doesn't make sense.

You should be able to style your hair no matter what your parents say.

3943303 yeah Joan of arc is hella badass but I don't think my dad would like that I'm using her as an argument

And yeh I get what you're saying
He's super self contradictory
And it's painful

3943463 I mean it'll still be blonde... It might just look a little darker

3943577 yeah but if I try to get a haircut on my own I'll be in huuuuge trouble

3943713 such is the life of a teen...

3943711 Well you can use any famous woman from history who's gone against the norm, and proven that you don't have to dress or act like a woman all the time. Amelia Earhart is another good example of that, and if your dad is a fan of good old Robin Williams you can always use this line. Robin Williams had several homosexual roles through out his acting career, The Bird Cage is one of the most well known.

But I like this one the most.

And to help you have a good laugh, here's a little contradiction that you will enjoy a little. Keep in mind it's a parody, the guys behind this are for LGBT.

3943810 yeah but the thing is I can't use lgbt people in any sort of argument or else I risk myself being outed

3944326 Point taken, and I saw your photos, you look good. Hair style makes you look like rocker, close to the hair style the lead singer of Twisted Sister had during the music video for We're Not Gonna Take it. That guy was awesome.

3944666 I feel like I know that song
Was it like 90s grunge rock or something

Oh and thanks!

3944910 You're welcome, and close the song itself came out in 84. Here's the video they did. And they were known as a metal hair band, simply because every member of the band had long hair.

Heh, I went through the opposite end of the spectrum with my Mom, she did everything to make sure I would be a guy as that is what I was born with, even forced me into the Boy Scouts, heh, but look at me today, female all the way, well, without the surgery, but still, I live as a female.

4023795 it's a struggle though

but I'm glad you're able to do it!!!!
