    Next Chapter before April

So a lot of you may be wondering where I've been. Well the answer is simple about a year and a half ago I discovered a Youtuber who convinced me to give the One Piece manga a try. I figured why not, it's a famous series and its fantasy adventure, sounds right up my ally. It shouldn't take me too long to get through it right?

972 chapters and 20 years worth of content later...

    Not dead

I know its been a long time since I posted an update for DSA, and I know I've said it before but the story is still alive. I really dont have a reason for the lack of updates other than not having more than 30 minutes at ta time to really write anything but now I can go back to writing during my lunch break and in the evenings like I use to so I should be able to finally finish that blasted

    Update and Name change

An update on the next chapter. It's still in the rough draft stages but it's coming along so it wont be a year before it updates like last time. More importantly, I'm considering changing the name of the story itself to "The Dusk Shine Anomaly" since I kind of misunderstood what Anthology meant. I figured since each chapter was it's own little story arc like the episodes in the show that it

    It’s done!

The new chapter is done, finally. Just needs some fine tuning for spelling, grammar, and idiotic plot holes and I can finally publish it. Look forward to reading it sometime this weekend.

Apparently, having an appendix chapter in your story is frowned upon in this establishment, so here it is in a blog post. Some information is spoilers and as such wont be added until the chapter it first appears in is posted, expect this page to grow indefinitely.

The Homo Genus races

The dominant species of Equestria. They are human like in shape but vary in terms of features and abilities.

The Common Races

Terran, Homo Gaia A humanoid without wings and limited magic. Terrans are analogous to MLP's earth pony. They are generally stronger and broader than the other races and make up the majority of Equestria's agrarian population. While they lack the natural ability to cast spells, they are still capable of magic through the use of wands or enchantments. This kind of magic is limited, however, and most terrans default to, as they call it, good ol' fashion hard work.

Seraphim, Homo Avian A humanoid with wings and weather manipulation abilities. Seraphim are analogous to MLP's pegasus pony. The most distinctive feature is the large birdlike wings that protrude from the spinal column just below the shoulder blades. These wings are not capable of flight on their own, however, and are mainly used to accelerate and maneuver while in the air. The seraphim's flight ability comes from their air magic which also gives them control over the weather.

Djinn, Homo Thaumaturge A humanoid with high magic capabilities. Djinn are analogous to MLP's unicorn pony. Physically, they are somewhat indistinguishable from terrans except that every djinn has a small oval shaped gem embedded in their foreheads from birth. They also tend to be more slender and lighter in skin tone. The main trait of a djinn is their natural ability to use nearly all forms of magic without any sort of medium. Most djinn only ever learn the basic cantrips while others learn complex weaves that allow them to perform great feats of magic.

The Uncommon Races

Nephilim, Homo Superior A semi-immortal humanoid that is capable of all forms of magic as well as flight. Nephilim are analogous to MLP's Alicorns. They do not age but can die if their bodies suffer critical damage. Special note: Only three confirmed nephilim exist in the world of Equestria. Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, and Prince Mi Amore Romeo.

Dryad, Homo Naturae Sometimes called "tree nymphs" they are believed to be all but extinct, likely due to the fact that they were few in number to begin with which resulted in them being bread out by other races. Nymphs are very timid and often make their homes in secluded areas in or very close to a forest. There are records of nymphs who could communicate with animals and even a few who claimed to be able to understand the trees and plants as well. This is believed to be the origin of the condition known as "Druid's Tongue".

Harpy, Homo Raptor A humanoid with eagle talons for legs and wings instead of arms. Harpies are analogous to MLP's Griffons. Capable of flight and weather magic like seraphim but much fewer in number, harpies generally make their home in the mountain regions of Equestria.

Minotaur, Homo Taurus Of all the Homo Genus races, minotaurs are the most animal looking due to having the muzzle and horns of a bull. Because of their physique, many believe that minotaurs are all muscle bound brutes and are often surprised to learn that many are famous poets and artists, Leonardo Bovinci for instance. Their home land, The Republic of Itaurus, is a 100% free market society thus many minotaurs are entrepreneurs.

Merrevail, Homo Nocturnes Very similar to seraphim except they have membranous bat wings instead of feathered ones. The term 'Merrevail' comes from the online fantasy game Lord of the Rings Online and is not a reference to any real world mythical beast. Merrevail serve mainly in the Night Guard under princess Luna but little is known about their culture to outsiders.

Fae Races

Creatures mostly magical in nature. They come in various shapes and sizes.

Dragons From docile wrymlings to flying leviathans, few creatures command as much awe and respect as dragons. Some dragons count themselves as citizens of Equestria and make their home among the common races in large cities with heavily mixed populations like Phillydelphia. Other dragons embrace their natural aggressiveness and live in the harsh wilderness of the area known as the Dragon Lands. These 'wild dragons' as they're called consider all other races, including their city dwelling kin, to be beneath them and as such, refuse to share any knowledge of their culture or history, making information on dragons as a whole limited. Despite their reptilian appearance, they are not cold blooded but they aren't exactly warm blooded ether. Their bodily temperature is regulated by their internal flame or 'Dragon Fire' as it's called.

Dragon Types
Wyrm: Western European style dragons with four legs and wings on their backs. Dragon Lord Torch is a Wyrm.
Wyvern: A two legged dragon with wings for forearms. The Dragons from Skyrim are Wyverns.
Drake: Bipedal dragons without wings. Spike is a Drake.
Draconoids: Bipedal dragons with wings. Gargle and Ember are Draconoids.
Naga: A serpent like dragon with two arms but no legs or wings. Also referred to as "Sea Monsters" or "River Serpents". Stephen Magnet is a Naga.

Nix First shown in their corrupted form in issue 5 of the MLP comic series and again in their natural form in the Nightmare Moon edition of FIENDship is Magic special. Very little is known about the nix as a race save that they make their home on the moon and create and protect the dreams of the mortal races. During her banishment, Luna, still under Nightmare Moon's control, used deception and manipulation to trick a hand full of nix into teaching her this ability. Over several centuries she invented a new and dangerous school of magic she called oneiromancy. During this time she also poisoned the minds of the nix, corrupting them into shadow like minions wholly loyal to her.

Aziza One of the more reclusive and misunderstood of the Fae races, aziza are native to the lands far south of the Everfree Forest. Their skin tone ranges from light brown to dark black with ashen gray hair and stripes. Their culture is centered around shamanism and ancestral worship. At first glance, a village of aziza might appear to be a tribe of primitive peoples, however, this is due to the aziza's adherence to tradition and connection with the land, they are no strangers to the 'modern world'.

Technology

Technology in the Anthology-verse™ is comparable to modern day earth with the following notable exceptions.

Crystaltech Where as the real world is built on the microchip, Equestria uses a similar concept known as thaumic quartz. Functionally, they preform the same tasks but thaumic quartz provide their own power in the form of magic energy thus eliminating the need for bulky power supplies.

Global Listening And Sending System Called Glass for short, these are the in universe version of Smart Devices. The resemble thin, transparent pieces of glass, hence the name. They are made from thaumic quartz and do not require charging as long as the user is in an area with ambient magic which, in Equestria, is pretty much everywhere.

Crystalvid CV for short, same thing as a TV except it can fill multiple roles such as a phone, computer, even a virtual picture frame since they, like all other crystaltec devices generate their own power. The highest end models have no physical screen and instead project a holographic monitor capable of maintaining 4k resolution up to 70 inches in size.

Places

The Everfree Forest A supernatural forest with bizarre magical properties. According to records, prior to the year 620 AN, the area now known as the Everfree Forest was once a landscape of fertile farmlands and small hills, at the heart of which was the city and former Equestrian capital Winter's End. After Princess Luna was killed* by Nightmare Moon, Princess Celestia ordered the capital moved to what is now modern day Canterlot. During this time of uncertainty and political strife, a rogue group of Homo Genus calling themselves the Druids who believed nature was sacred and using magic to control it was wrong, laid siege to the former capital. Before any sort of response could be made, the Druids combined all of their magic along with the ambient magic of Celestia's former residence into a massive ritual of unprecedented proportions. The land around Winter's End became a forest overnight. Despite every attempt of the Royal Magical Society, the trees could not be touched by nether tool nor magic. The trees also seemed to only stop magic that would alter the earth or the weather although how they are able to make the distinction remains a mystery. The Druids themselves made their home somewhere deep in the forest, hidden away from outsiders. Before they did, however, the Druid Lord spoke with Celestia, claiming the forest and all within would be "ever free" of the magic of mortals. Little is known of the Druid's ultimate fate as none have been seen since.
*Recent events have revealed that Luna was not in fact, killed but rather she was possessed by the dark spirit, Nightmare Moon.

Misc

L-Sec Stands for Local Security, basically the police force of a town or province. Established 200 years prior in order to give cities a way to enforce local laws while still maintaining a national standard.

AN Calendar AN stands for Anno Nostram which loosely means "year of our union". Some argue that the calendar should begin on the first Hearths Warming Celebration but the Royal Time Keeper's Association place it one week later when the three races officially signed the unification treaty making Equestria an official nation. In the modern age, the AN Calendar is the international standard with the exception of the Dragon Lordship.
