Everfree Northwest: Not attending. All y'all who are, have fun for me!

Biggest Little Furcon: Attending! (This is why I'm missing EFNW; BLFC is my backyard con.) If you're furry trash like me and you're gonna be in Reno this weekend, tweet at me or speak up in comments, and we can meet for a brohoof.

Bronycon: … :trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:

… Don't look now, but I'm considering going.

Financial and time budgets normally prohibit me from attending cons out of driving distance, but my job's been treating me pretty well since the fiber funding came through, and I got a big tax return this year … for the first time in maybe ever, I can look at a four-figure price tag (plus twelve hours of plane rides) for other-coast convention attendance and think, "Gee, I think I can justify that."

I think my make-or-break for Bronycon might be whether someone else I'm good online friends with is looking for a hotel room partner. If I'm going, I'd be staying Thursday night through Monday morning, so the difference between a solo room and splitting one two ways is several hundred dollars.[1] So, uh, if we're not Internet strangers and you might be interested in crashing Bronycon alongside a perfectly normal pony, speak up in comments or PM and let's see if maybe this thing can happen.

[1] I'm flatly not interested in cramming into a corner of a room split multiple ways; I've done enough poor-college-kid cons to know I need quiet retreat space where I can let down my social guard, which shared crash space doesn't give me. But going totally solo is costly, and more importantly, feels socially isolating — like, I'm throwing thousands of bits into this but I can't even find anyone cool to buddy-system the con with? I know that's not how cons actually work (I'll have just as much fun chilling with authors no matter what the room looks like), but there's a little corner of my brain that it makes a big difference to — a little social anxiety center that isn't quite ready to give up the crutch of having at least one person I'm accountable to if I decide to curl up in a little ball while things are going on. If that makes sense.

Also, for the record, Bronycon would be the largest convention I've ever attended, by a factor of about three. The idea of a convention the size of a town is a little overwhelming. I live in a city of 10,000 people.

Edited to add: As of late May, I am confirmed for Bronycon! (See comments.)

Yo yo yo you be needing like to be coming to Trotcon!

So, uh, if we're not Internet strangers and you might be interested in crashing Bronycon alongside a perfectly normal pony, speak up in comments and let's see if maybe this thing can happen.

Go drop D a message. I don't think he's looking for roommates any more, but I'm willing to bet money he knows someone who is.

Also, basically all of the Angels except for me are going, so I'll drop some hints their way

I'm still debating over whether or not I go to Bronycon as well. I'm sort of testing the waters with Everfree Northwest and see if it is a Thing I Want To Do.

Everfree Northwest: Not attending. All y'all who are, have fun for me!

We'd better. :trixieshiftright:

Someone told me they're bringing a bug for you for some reason, too. I'm not quite sure why.

Excellent! Excellent!
If you end up really bent on going but can't get a room, I Have The Power.
Something tells me that would be weird, though. I'm guessing that a fun and exciting changeling author such as yourself will be, as they say, rolling in the dough. Where in this case dough is, I guess, offers to room in Baltimore?

I would offer talking with my roomies, but I know one of them is not all that trusting of those he doesn't know.

Bronycon is my ambition, but my chances of going are looking increasingly grim. I simply cannot afford to fly out there, or take the train for starters. And I might not really have the money to attend even if I could get there anyway. Being the sole provider for three people is expensive.

I'm going and probably just grabbing staff housing, but you know, could be open for alternative arrangements. Maybe. I do like having a bed to myself

Damn, my room is pret'near full with four of us making space, so adding #5 would definitely fall into your no-go shoehorning category, I'm afraid. I do hope you can come.

What's your max room occupancy? 2? 3? 4?

Thanks for the tip/assistance!

I appreciate the offers! I'm scrambling to pack up for BLFC, so I probably won't start to make plans until after this weekend. If nothing more definite shakes out, I'll drop you a PM and see what happens.

There's some flex (based on my existing comfort level with the individuals in question), but I'll tentatively say three. It's one of those things where the social juggling of the sleep situation grows geometrically with new roommates — similar to the way that going out to a four-person con meal is significantly easier than six, which is ridiculously easier than eight, and beyond that you're basically into event planning.

I appreciate the good thoughts! It's keen knowing you'll be attending though.

I won't say never, but two weeks after another cross-country convention trip is kind of a hard sell. :rainbowwild:

Hope you're enjoying the con! I was thinking of writing up a new-con survival guide this week, but my schedule boxed in. The short version: Try to take in a variety of experiences, but keep in mind that the con is there for a wide variety of fans with a wide variety of tastes, and not all of it will interest you, and that's okay. If you find yourself gravitating to tabletop gaming, or churning the dealer's room, or spending the entire weekend at panels or room parties, it's all good as long as you enjoy yourself, but don't think you're obligated to do any of those things.

Someone told me they're bringing a bug for you for some reason, too. I'm not quite sure why.

Neither am I. It's like they don't trust me to have sent my own agents. :trixieshiftright:

I hear you there. :unsuresweetie: As noted, this is my first foray into affording this being a possibility. Cons closer to home tend to be a lot easier to crash — is there one near where you live?

As far as pony conventions go, I believe there is one in Ohio.

I just, really enjoyed Bronycon when I went before. :twilightsheepish:

I'm just spending all day running panels. That's clearly the correct solution. EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION TO ME. :flutterrage:

I guess I should show up in here so I can say,

"Yo! Horizon be coming to BC, and he be rooming with me!"

Depending on the logistics of how and when you'd be getting to Bronycon, I may be able to offer free lodging.

Thank you for the offer! I've got plane tickets for Thursday-Monday, and I'm staying with Bradel at the con. I *might* need crash space Thursday (the need is a possibility, not a given), but otherwise I'm solid on hotel space. One way or another, I look forward to meeting you at the con!

4020286 Well, that's where the logistics come in. I won't be up there on Thursday or Monday. I mean, you're welcome to crash here Thursday, but it's close to a two-hour drive. And I probably won't get back from vacation until that night.

Ah, gotcha. I'm flying straight in to BWI, so a two-hour drive is pretty much out of the cards. Again, I appreciate the offer.
