Credit Where It's Due (Pony Anniversary Story!) · 9:54pm May 4th, 2016

So, today is my two year pony anniversary . AKA, the it was 4th May, two years ago that I watched episode 1&2 in their entirety and then proceeded to watch half of Season One in one day!

Some of you who know me best probably already know my story of how I became a pegasister, and you may know I usually credit this picture:

Which is more or less true. But there is another thing I usually don't credit.

So I'll tell the whole story below the break.

So the story goes like this:

September 2013. I'm in a pretty dark place, I've only had unrestricted access to the internet for a little over a year, and thanks to it I've began to understand the opinions of others than my family, which allows me to come to my own conclusions instead of what they tell me. I unfortunately come to different conclusions and that makes life... difficult.

But during my time on the internet, I have heard of this show... My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. And there's all these references and jokes about it everywhere. Obviously I'm confused as to people would care and talk about such a show, but I don't think much of it. That is, until one day when browsing deviantART I stumbled across the above picture. I loved the art and so I got interested. I read the comments and looked at all that artists' art as well as other artists.

Through the pictures, their descriptions and the comments I began to learn about MLP and Equestria, and realised the size of the adult fandom... I became almost say... a quasi-fan. When I saw references to it I smiled, and I didn't like people being negative about it. That December I watched the first episode - but I didn't even get through the intro because it seemed so cheesy, like the old Barbie movies I watched.

But my slight liking of it and my knowledge was retained. I knew the names of the Mane Six and such and what their Element (though for some reason I thought it was "Essence" not Element ) was.

Flash forward to Spring the next year, my sister and brother (who hate MLP) had often teased my about my knowledge of My Little Pony, and it began to get on my nerves. But at the same time, it kept MLP at the front of my mind... So one day, 4th May, 2014, after being teased about it yet again, I watched this video:

Which is a PMV made to a fan song of The Elder Scrolls V. Skyrim. I had seen it before, I found it because I used to play Skyrim. But for some reason, I wanted to watch it again. I liked what I saw, and I looked at all the old deviant art art again, and for some reason, I decided to give MLP another go. I got past the intro, but as soon as it was over... as soon as the scene with Twilight and Spike were talking about Nightmare Moon in Canterlot, I knew I liked it, and by the time it got to Rainbow Dash, I knew I was a fan. And I knew I was more a fan of it, than anything else. I then proceeded to watch half of Season 1 in one day, and the other half the next.

Two years later, that hasn't changed. It still is my favourite fandom.

... Unfortunately I'm not done yet, sorry!

Because MLP became even greater.

I loved the animation, the humour and the message of Friendship. At the time I had zero friends. Yep, zero. (Except my siblings... kinda.) But the show really taught me the meaning of Friendship, which I had forgotten.

But, it became even more. I discovered the fandom and all the wonderful (and horrible) things they made, the art, the music, the videos, but more than anything... the fanfiction. Particularly, FimFiction. And through this fandom and website, I finally got my own writing out to the public, a dream come true.

But something happened I did not expect.

One of the people who commented on my first story, xStellar_Bubbles, became my friend. I started to interact with the community more, and through her I met my little sis FelineFluff and through them, my boyfriend, scootaloo96 (who became so 4th May, 2015 funnily enough. ) and through him Sky Melody and Rosegamer and so on.
