    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Birthday Bios: Flower Power · 6:04am May 1st, 2016

Fun Fact: ‘Flower Power’ was a name I considered when first creating Flora Peace.

Flora’s grandmother doesn’t care how old she is—you cross her, she’ll kick your butt seven ways to Sunday. They say that rainbow-haired ponies have a certain fire about them that makes them pretty formidable.

Let’s see what went on in the life of this firecracker.

Flower Power was born in San Franciscolt, as a small filly with a big voice and the oldest of three. Her days growing up had her exploring every corner of the city, and when they moved to the countryside, she explored the fields and the forest that surrounded her home. In this countryside, she found she had an affinity for garden growing, which she earned a cutie mark for at the age of twelve.

Her father died when she was but a teen, so she learned how to defend her home and family in any way possible. Whether it’d be saving her younger siblings from a vicious animal, shooing off a critter invading her garden, or even scaring off a burgalar, she spent a lot of her energy fighting. Her fiery spirit let all those around her know that she always meant business.

When she was a young mare, a young stallion from the Salt Lick Valley was visiting relatives, who just so happened to be her neighbors. She was instantly smitten with the gentlecolt, and stalked him for days, to the point of stowing away on his train back to his home. By the time he let her know that he didn’t appreciate being stalked like that and wasn’t interested, she realized that she had no way to pay for the train fare back home. So, she started working as a florist in Salt Lick City, and boarded with her boss’s family until she could go back home.

She befriended the florist’s son, Blue Raspberry, who was a meek boy that worked at a ski resort in the nearby mountains. While her forceful personality scared him at first, he slowly warmed up to her, while she found him adorable from the start. She tried out skiing when he suggested it, and enjoyed it very much. She also found much to explore in the mountains surrounding the place. She did things like shouting from the mountaintops, floating in the nearby Salty Lake, and weaving through every nook and cranny of Salt Lick City.

All the while, she found that she enjoy spending time with Blue Raspberry, and when a particularly mean deer tried to attack, she fought off the deer and rushed her injured friend to the hospital. It was around this time that she figured out that she loved him.

When it was pointed out that she had more than enough to make it home, she declined to go, wanting to stay with Blue. She promised to visit her family, however, as she intended to have them meet him. It wasn’t long until they married, and moved into a little house outside of the city.

A year after the wedding, their first daughter, Sego Lily, was born. A sober and responsible filly, she was a heavy contrast to her more impulsive mother. With her being the eldest, Flower was able to relate to her having to set an example for her younger siblings. Flower doesn’t like to admit it, but Sego was better at setting the example for her own siblings. She’s also proud that the filly was incredibly savvy and social, and was able to jump into the political world as an adult, becoming mayor of one of the Salt Lick Towns.

A couple years after Sego Lily came the dainty Jasmine. Flower had been a bit perplexed at how the filly didn’t like dirt and preferred to stay inside and do things like solve puzzles, sew, learn about the latest fashions, and clean everything until it had the life rubbed out of them. Flower had a bit of trouble teaching her that dirt wasn’t inherently evil, and that bad smells were something to deal with. Jasmine was stubborn, and ended up making her own perfumes to combat the awful smells. While she never quite liked perfume, Flower saw no harm in it, and let Jazz leave home for a larger city beyond the valley in order to develop her talent.

Third came Honeysuckle, the sweet, bookish filly always wanting to solve problems. She often joined her sister Jazz in doing chores around the house, though she was never obsessive about making sure everything was completely sanitized—just clean enough to be presentable was just fine. Between making sure everyone was happy and comfortable at home and pursuing fundraising endeavors like lemonade stands, it was no surprise to Flower that as an adult, Honey decided to open an inn.

The fourth daughter was Violet Melody, who had been singing from the moment she was born. Flower liked that she inherited her tough and sassy demeanor (the toughness is a little present in Sego and Honey, but it’s not completely dominant for them), and actively encouraged her to pursue her singing talent and show Equestria what she was made of. It made the other daughters a little jealous.

Number five was the goofy Daffidazey (aka another FIM-ified G3 pony). Flower would be lying if she said she understood this daughter and her… unusual magic and methods. Even as an old mare, she’s still trying to figure out how Daffy could teleport without being a unicorn, or materialize random flowr petals to use as confetti, or just about anything else she did. Still, Daffy had the number one priority of making her sisters and friends laugh, and Flower was content with that.

The youngest daughter was May Alyssum, who was quiet, humble, and just wanted to work in her grandparents’ flower shop with little hassle. She didn’t mind getting dirty, however—in fact, she was the one that loved dirt the most. She, along with the Violet and Daffy, would be throwing dirt around like the little rascals they were. Flower often joined them.

She loved raising her six little daughters and watching them grow into lovely mares. Though a little disappointed that a son never came about, she wouldn’t trade her little girls for anything. Besides, she does love her sons-in-law, though she has bopped them on the head at least once for crossing her. Blue Raspberry often had to remind her not to scare them like that.

Out of those six daughters came numerous grandfoals, ranging from Jasmine just having one, to Honeysuckle boasting a brood of eight. She let her daughters know that she didn’t want any of her grandfoals named after her unless she was dead—simply because she didn’t want to get confused whenever “Flower Power” was called. The closest one was Honey’s eldest daughter, Flora Peace, which Flower thought was a funny name.

She wouldn’t die for a long while, but the same couldn’t be said for Blue Raspberry, who fell ill and despite his struggle, lost his life to it. Flower was heartbroken when he died, feeling as if she lost a piece of her. She couldn’t stop thinking about him, from the moment they met to their marriage; from the birth of their first daughter to the birth of the youngest grandfoal at the time; and from the Hearth’s Warming Parties he always managed to arrange for their family for years (whether it’d be just them, with their daughters, or with all the grandfoals) to those injuries somepony would sustain.

While she never will stop thinking about him, she still retains a lot of life in her, which worries her daughters. She currently lives with May Alyssum, since she’s fit to take care of her and is the least busy of her sisters. But, she enjoys spending time with her other daughters as well.

She also likes to hit ponies with her cane. She doesn’t like to be patronized for her age.

Oooh, I love badass grandma characters. Though I have to wonder what happened to Flower Power's family after she left for the Salt Lick Valley, given how she was the homestead's protector... :unsuresweetie:

Aw, dang, I was so tired that I completely overlooked that! :derpyderp2: At least there's a good reason for her to want to go back after realizing that her stalking went too far.

Um... they probably had trouble for a while, with some neighbors coming to the rescue. Her younger brother had to pick up the slack in protecting the homestead after being scolded by mom for being so lazy and not learning anything from his sister. It took a while (and plenty of lost vegetables and close calls) for him to be as good as Flower Power had been.
