Honeycrisp Chapter 8 · 7:41pm Apr 28th, 2016

Hello all, it's time to upload another chapter of John Honeycrisp Apple. Spoilers ahead.

Here we go with chapter 8 of this surprisingly popular story. In this chapter, John finally reveals to the others that he isn't really Honeycrisp Apple. Prior to that, Applejack visits her friends and voices her concerns over her "father" not telling her the truth, though she is more sad than angry. Initially when I wrote this chapter, she was a lot less sad and a lot more angry, and she herself was the one that thought he might be a changeling and a threat to everybody because of it. I did not like the anger. It just didn't fit with the way I wanted this to go, especially since I didn't want to have the traditional liar revealed situation where he reveals the truth and everybody is angry at him, or others simply find out or suspect it and are angry with him. I always had Pinkie suggesting the obvious choice of simply asking him about what he's keeping secret, though, that remained the same. Initially, neither Rarity nor Twilight Sparkle had spoken against the idea of him being a changeling. I'm much happier with the general tone of the thing now. Applejack is confused and a little hurt, but but just wants to know the truth so that they can have a proper relationship that's not based on lies, not to punish him or anything of the sort. In addition to that, the liar revealed thing is swiftly brushed aside by Granny Smith proposing the new mystery...is he really a human, or is he simply delusional? Granny obviously believes the latter and provides some evidence to suggest where all the human stuff came from with a comic adaptation of the story of Johnny Appleseed. That is where the remainder of the story is headed, and the whole lying bit is not going to play a big role anymore.

Now for stuff not explicitly stated in the chapter. In this story, the Equestria Girls movies would be canon, but the events depicted here take place before those movies do. Though the mirror was in the Crystal Empire during the first movie, it obviously couldn't have been there for the thousand years the empire was missing, otherwise Sunset Shimmer couldn't have possibly travelled there a few years prior to the movie. The assumption I'm making is that there were either humans who travelled to Equestria or ponies that travelled to whatever the human world is called and that's how stories and legends of humans would have trickled into the mythology in Equestria.

Comic and story book trade between the worlds :rainbowlaugh:

That makes an incredible amount of sense. Makes things more interesting.

You know, the mirror to EQG was only one of multiple such mirrors?
Star Swirl would repeatedly "tune in" one of his portal mirrors to a semi-randomized destination, and then he would permanently "lock-in" a mirror portal's destination if that mirror had revealed an especially interesting world, before constructing a new portal mirror to continue his exploring of new worlds.

No, I was unaware of that. I'm going to assume such things were revealed in the comics or something of that sort?

Not with those literal exact words or stated outright, but yeah, by virtue of non-contradiction and several supporting bits between comic and show.
The only thing that was not touched on was if the mirror portals were naturally limited to alternate "mirror worlds" in Equestrian probability space, or if that was merely a safeguard in their design, or if the apparent focus on alternate realities specific to Equestria was Star Swirls primary research interest.

Well, if there are other portals then that only strengthens the idea that knowledge would leak between the worlds.
