Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

Milestone reached! Well, close enough. Time to abuse my power! · 6:45pm Apr 23rd, 2016

Well, it's happened. I just got my 444th follower. As you may know, 8 is an important number in chaotism, and seeing as I missed the 333rd follower mark, I figured I'd toss out something quick and good for hitting the halfway mark of the sacred 888 followers.

So this is me, signal-boosting people I like, and who have had some impact on my writing.

Sargon of Akkad and Thunderfoot.

I'm putting both of these guys together because they basically serve the same function for my purposes: point out stupid stuff, have fun with it, dole out some science facts, and suck out what little hope I had left for humanity.

Sargon of Akkad has a weekly column of sorts called 'This Week in Stupid'. It's partially because of his work that I wrote my now prophetic Apple Bloom on Equestrian Rape Culture. He's also a game designer, as far as I understand it.

Thunderfoot is more of a freeform YouTuber in that sense. He works in science for a living, and aside from the pointing out of silly stupid stuff and religious bovine excrement, he also covers military history; basic principles like why focusing fire is a good idea, the sort of things you can use when writing fantasy so you know when you're using real life and when you're using pure fantasy.

Both of these guys are good at what they do, in my mind. However, neither has a single video I can think of right now that's iconic, or immediately useful.

No, for that I'd turn to...

The Girly.
This is one of my all-time favourite YouTubers, period. Like the two guys I mentioned above, she deals in the silly stuff, in religious critiques, but unlike them, she's not depressing.

The Girly does her videos wearing a mask, and as a result she has to rely heavily on body language. She takes nothing as sacred, so to speak, and she uses the full range of foul-mouthedness and humour. But more than that, she speaks my language, if you catch my drift. It's hard to do it justice, so I'll just drop this video here and let you judge for yourself.

And finally, there's

BobSheaux

If you like watching movie reviews, and you're not fond of Nostalgia Critic, I recommend this guy. Bob's got the more obscure movies in his repertoire and a few classics (Muppet Movie, Starship Troopers), as well as comic books and a few series. The reason why I recommend him is because he reviews (and sometimes mercilessly bashes) from a positive perspective. He can take some of the worst movies and still say 'While this part about it was good', or at least say what might have worked better, which is very useful if you're trying your hand at creative stuff yourself. Even the movie he hates the most, he's actually made a list of things that he didn't hate in it. He even has a sensible explanation for why George Clooney's Batman still worked. As in, a reasonable logic. Even when it's a whole genre he doesn't follow, he doesn't dismiss it outright (the one Japanese film he reviewed, and he's mentioned bronies on one of his channel anniversaries). It's the sort of guy who's using his voice to make a change for the better.

Besides which, he's entertaining to watch, especially as a wolf.

Are you all distracted now? Great! Now I can get back to doing nothing work on finding a real job writing more pone fics. The third installment of the Rumble series has mostly passed outlining stage and is now in writing stage. Chapter one should be done as soon as tomorrow, I project publishing around... oh, two or three weeks, let's say, if nothing changes. There's a job thing happening this Wednesday, so it might get delayed.

And there was something more to mention regarding the latest Season, but I'll get back to y'all on that next week. And no, I haven't seen any of it yet, you know me like that by now, dontchu?

Cracker out.

I already signed it, but I didn't add it to the blog because I didn't want it to be dated. I prefer to link stuff that's useful in the future, too. But yeah, the guy's got a point. Quality control is needed for college courses, we had a feedback system in mine, I can only encourage it in others.
