It's been a long December and there's reason to believe...

Maybe this year will be better than the last.

I'd say more, but let's not tempt fate, she seems to be having a rough year too.

    Have you voted yet?

This isn't an endorsement, I have no facts and figures to offer you, no scandals to mention. I'll just say that this election may well be the most noteworthy in quite some time for the turnout, and early voting is still happening tomorrow. If you mailed yours in, check to make sure it was received. If it wasn't, there is still time to vote in person and cancel the mail in. No matter how you do

Wait... · 6:58pm Apr 22nd, 2016

Spoiler warning, I'm going to talk about the little premier video for the next episode.

So... it's confirmed now. Starlight makes a new friend. A friend who is great. And Powerful.

The synopsis tells us Twilight is worried about this. Because Trixie was a bad pony.

Okay, I'll play.

Trixie's crimes:

1. being a braggard.
2. making the wrong fans.
3. not actually able to take down a space bear.
4. running away.
5. finding a magic enhancing amulet.
6. becoming corrupted by it.
7. exacting vengeance on a single town for her humiliation at their hooves.

Starlight's crimes:

1. brainwashing an entire town.
2. stealing cutiemarks from the mane six.
3. attempting to brainwash same.
4. running away when her plan was thwarted.
5. stalking Twilight
6. learning forbidden magic
7. attempting to change history, possibly creating several doomed timelines of the entire world, all to spite Twilight

And Trixie is the bad pony. Trixie was not forgiven for her crimes, despite committing them under evil influence. Trixie is a bad influence.

Twilight... you've got this all backwards! If anything, Starlight could help Trixie be a more effective villian!

There are not enough facepalms in the world to express what I am feeling right now, but this is a start.

maybe they'll surprise us. After all Trixie hasn't been seen since the last episode she was in and techincally in EG; so who knows what she has been up too? And not for nothing Trixie hasn't had the best track record in Ponyville so Twilight being wary of her is reasonable; at least Starlight openly apologized and repented...Trixie ran away, tried again and failed and didn't even bother to try and reconcile with anypony. I can't wait to see how this pans out

I'm not sure we could say that she found a magical amulet. Looks like she purposefully bought it knowing it would give her the power to enact revenge. She just didn't know about the consequences. I agree that Boast Busters Trixie didn't do a whole lot wrong other than being irritating, but she's definitely got to own that second episode.

What concerns me is that Twilight already told Trixie they could put her behavior behind them. Why go back on that now?

Twilight Sparkle: Trixie?
Trixie: It's the least I could do. I treated you and your friends so horribly when I was wearing that Alicorn Amulet. I just couldn't control myself. You can forgive me, can't you?
Twilight Sparkle: Hmmm. Sure.
Trixie: Oh, good. Don't you think the Great and Apologetic Trixie is the most magnificent humble pony you've ever seen?!

She did apologize, what she didn't do was explain her backstory, then move into Twilight's treehouse. Also, she didn't have a montage with Twilight's friends. Apparently there is protocol to this all is forgiven thing.

The overly cynical and smug facial expression on Trixie's face did not help in my belief in her innocence honestly. But then again everyone was written to hate her for doing exactly what Rainbow does on a daily bases with her own boasting. One problem with this series is that the main casts characters can be drastically changed to fit the "lesson" of the episode.

And to be honest they should have gone with Discord. At least then we'd be dealing with a character who manages to have some douche trick up his sleeves.

3888893 That's why I didn't think it would be Trixie - Twilight forgave her, and Trixie seemed apologetic... But apparently all that has been forgotten?

My guess - it'll be a lesson for Twilight (like the first two eps were kinda a lesson for her too). To not let past impressions taint relationships permanently, or something.

3888893 well think of it this way...Sunset had to help stop siren's for everyone to fully forgive her, Twilight in my opinion took pity of Starlight but in a good way and took her in so she could teach her about friendship...Trixie...I dunno i guess she just hasn't left that good of a taste in my mouth since she hasn't been around much and what we've seen of her was kinda messed up a lil bit. However this episode looks like a chance to fully redeem Trixie and get to know more about her.

With proper backstory, development and a legit touching moment then I feel Trixie will get along with everypony just fine and be a very good friend to Starlight...heres hoping that maybe Trixie comes to live in ponyville and maybe have a job as a magician for parties or something? I dunno lol. After all thats techincally what she is right? A performer...she lives to amaze and dazzle people with her tricks so what better job for her and what better place to truly humble her than ponyville and to be friends with someone who just recently tried to ruin Twilight's life lol xD

3888921 Season six seems to be just making up it's own canon with no regard for previous events. If they were planning to write fanfiction, they could have hired some better authors for it.

3888921 I can see where you're coming from. But meanwhile she's still friends with Discord who can't make an appearance without finding a way to give her the shaft. And even so it's literally the whole town who has something against Trixie, and after she took it over for an episode I don't think they've forgotten it.

3888921 Except Twilight should've learned this lesson with Discord after the Season 4 finale and "What About Discord?". This just seems like an excuse to justify Starlight's redemption by addressing the complaint that Trixie was a better recipant and saying "Yeah, but Trixie was far more evil than Starlight, she doesn't deserve forgiveness." Sounds to me like the writers have it all backwards, I just hope I'm wrong on this account.

3888931 basically, I think Twilight befriended Starlight because she was too powerful to be an enemy. It was make friends, or actually try to murder her. If she'd had her friends around, maybe banishment or turning Starlight to stone would have been considered, but failing that, make her into a friend.

3888943 As the old saying goes 'the best way to destroy ones enemy is to make them your friend' and that's exactly what Twilight did cause if I'm being honest I believe Twilight strongly held back in that little fight of theirs, cause had Twilight just said "Buck this" and went FULL POWER on Starlight? Yeah she'd probably have killed her ass and I'm not sure Twilight felt banishing her would have done any good because really at her core Starlight felt these things

1. Betrayed
2. Alone
3. Scared
4. Indifference

she felt she had no one way to make friends or make a change and that cutie marks ruined friendship for her and without another friend to reign her in she went off the deep end and became a villain. So Twilight decided to personally reform Starlight and teach her the magic of friendship...honestly a lot of people overlook this and its so strange

My hope is that the synopsis for this one is a rough description at best.

Should be interesting. Depending on if this happens after the comics, she could already be on good terms with most of the Mane 6 since Rainbow Dash helped her with that Dimond Dog thing and Applejack & Rarity helped solve that gem heist thing that turned out to be an inside job planning to pin it on Trixie and the others just cause they happened to be at the wrong place wrong time. Seriously what criminal poses as a cop to steal stuff?

Have you seen the picture of the quadruple face palm? both hooves and both wings?

Details from the last episode indicate that the show writers either don't read or don't care about the comics, so I wouldn't expect them to keep that continuity any more than the dragon continuity.

I'm a bit confuzzled to this episode as well, its so weird that they're using Trixie! I mean, she's been redeemed... hasn't she? Unless that last episode she was in was a lie :flutterrage: I wanted Trixie to come back, but if she's coming back as a villian again, I'm going to be pissed :facehoof:

I feel like Twilight is suffering a case of the stupid this episode, if she's trying to stop a friendship from taking place. I'm not sure how to feel about this next episode... I will however, watch to see how it pans out.

I agree with the facepalm video, legit, good lord.

3889122 I don't think this season's writers care about continuity at all.

Having watched the Promo, I think you're digging a bit too deep into this. I didn't get the feeling that Twilight thinks of Trixie as an inherently bad pony, nor do I think she would refuse to change her opinion of her.

It looked more like she was just plain surprised to see Trixie again.

This is gonna make for one awkward conversation for Twilight; two formely villainous mares that Twilight gave second chances to just talking to each other, and no doubt bringing up how they were shown the 'error of their ways'.:ajsmug:

Trixie and Starlight are a team

What I'm getting from this is that the writers want to see just how much crack shipping they can get the rest of us to produce.

It's like they're trying to push all of our buttons at once.

This is going to be worse than Ember.

3889176 Priorities:
#1 - Selling Toys
#2 - Everything else

Hey, we knew that already. That's why I buy toys. :pinkiehappy:

3889306 Fair enough, I am taking this to the worst possible extreme, because we have little info to go on yet. But yes, I see a problem with this concept. The wrong pony is being worried about.

3889467 Oh, I know.... I am just frustrated. When the people who are supposed to be making new canon just ignore the bits they don't care about canon itself becomes meaningless, and it's a useful tool.

3889122 The dragon comic was basically non-canon from the start. It came out after Dragon Quest, and is very much at odds with it. If there were dragons living in Fillydelphia, the dragon migration would have been just some irrelevant barbarians rather than Spike's best chance to find something out about his people.

An opinion I've seen elsewhere is that Trixie just can't help herself but troll Twilight, causing Twilight to be suspicious. Because the Great and Powerful Trixie is certainly above being miffed that Twilight had to go and further upstage her by turning into an alicorn.

If they try and dare sell that contemptible irredeemable mare as morally superior to Trixie I am going to utterly flip the fuck out and it is not going to be pretty.

It does seem as you say, but I still am eager to see it. :scootangel:

Part of me had been hoping that we'd get an episode where Starlight and Discord bond over tea, cookies and commiseration that the WMD Grade Rainbow Cannon of Love and Tolerance is even a thing instead. If they make Starlight out to be better than Trixie I will grumble quietly to myself and keep watching - because confound these ponies, they have me hooked!

I personally think that the writers just wanted to bring Trixie back in for giggles and fan frothing. She is a favourite background character for lots of people, after all. Hopefully also for continued development of Starlight because honestly, her redemption as a whole makes no freaking sense to me and I'm having a hard time seeing her as anything other than Sunset Lite! with all the implied watering down that entails.

Season six as a whole so far has been pretty hit and miss for me, I really enjoyed having a watchable Spike episode, and Rarity, Pinkie and Maud in Manehatten was a gem. So, I can hope that they will put a decent spin on it.

By the way, thank you for the praise in the posts about my comics, I was genuinely not expecting that. You are very kind. :twilightblush:
