    Pony crossover idea #798YH~6

You know, I looked for both stories and pictures involving Quibble Pants and Happy in some fashion, either fused or swapped or next to each other. And maybe it's partly because "happy" is a word that sees enough use, but I kinda came up empty.

Puzzle story preview coming shortly. Still need to cap it off and excerpt it, then ask a favor.

    Success, however small

The prologue I mentioned is up now! Yay!

This green check mark isn't really feeling me.

This story isn't supposed to be two years old with only two chapters out. The events were/are going to span a couple months. I wanted to have fun with it, not wear it like an albatross.

    *grumble*

I may have a prologue out before December. Maybe I can put out some one-shots with a lack of polish.

I think part of my problem is I have a fear of first drafts. I don't know what they look like, and I try to skip them entirely. I don't suppose any of you can point me towards some collection of first drafts alongside their completed states, can you?

    Pony of Interest

"We were sent here by a superintelligent, benevolent..." Reese briefly considered how accurate to be here, eventually settling for a catchall term: "...magical device, which routinely provides us with sparse information on our task."

"Huh," said Rainbow Dash, "you too? Ours is a crystal table that projects a map."

Ten top things I'd like to see in Pony · 4:58am Apr 21st, 2016

I was having a little trouble starting this entry. I considered ranking them from 10 to 1, but I couldn't think of a methodology that I could keep consistent and explain clearly. Some of these ideas are here only because they amuse me; should I lead with them and bore readers?

I finally decided that too many of these were uncomparable. On the other hoof, the reason so many of these things can't be weighed against each other is that they occupy so many separate categories. So I'm splitting the difference, mixing things up a bit, and giving each thing its own category. You'll understand why I'm not being more specific in a moment.

In no particular order:

1. TOP CHARACTER I WANT TO SEE ON THE SHOW AGAIN: Prince Blueblood
Let's be clear; Blueblood is not among the ponies I'd like to meet. I don't have any particular reason to believe he wasn't acting normal for himself in The Best Night Ever. But I have trouble believing he would hide away, even after such a fiasco. Moreover, he's said to be Princess Celestia's "nephew." More than explaining just what that means, it would give the writers an excuse the scaffolding for a Celestia episode, exploring the family dynamic between the two (and probably Luna). Minor spoiler: this is one of my unfinished stories.

2. TOP CHARACTER DYNAMIC I WANT THE SHOW TO DEVELOP: Discord and Twilight
Discord's reformed, right? Even if his friendship with Fluttershy didn't hold up to Tirek's temptation, his regret was genuine, right? The box from the Tree of Harmony said so, didn't it? Yes. That's not the point.
If I'm not mistaken, Twilight has appeared in every episode where Discord has a speaking role. Even if that's wrong, every episode with both of them has Discord messing with her one way or another, whether that's outright evil, teasing, or just wreaking totally reversible havoc on the Grand Galloping Gala. When Twilight has been hostile, suspicious, or annoyed towards him, it has always been correct, even without justification.
So aside from common friends, why are these two friends? Even if we can now consider them allies, Twilight doesn't seem to be getting anything out of their friendship except headaches. Isn't there something they can enjoy together?

3. TOP GAG I WANT TO SEE AGAIN: Twilight on fire
OK, seriously, the Twilicane? Discord created that on a whim. I'm surprised it still exists--or that somepony saw and copied it. Either way, why?
But Twilight on fire? That amuses me. It's only happened twice, and differently each time: once when she accidentally drank hot sauce in the first half of the pilot, and once when she got angry after the hydra attack in Feeling Pinkie Keen. And it's best if she doesn't get hurt. (In slapstick, pain is funniest when it looks real but fleeting.) Too bad that Rarity had to tag along in the last episode (and that they needed disguises); otherwise the gauntlet could have taken the alicorn into some interesting temperatures.
Spike: "Ohh, my legs are getting sore. How are you holding up, Twilight?"
Twilight: "My whole body is literally on fire. Other than that, I'm fine, thanks for asking!"

4. TOP ASPECT OF EQUESTRIA I JUST WANT TO SEE MORE OFTEN: Winter
This show is far from the only offender. Live-action shows at least have the excuse that non-sunny weather makes filming more difficult (but they are still offenders). But come on! Winter is a quarter of the year, give or take, and just today it snowed where I live! To date, this show's winter episodes (not counting the wild weather around the Crystal Empire) have consisted of one where they wrap it up, one where they start it (and a half if you half-count Fall Weather Friends), and two Christmas-Lite episodes. (Rainbow Dash even sings "awesome holidayS," plural. That at least hints at one other.) It doesn't have to impact the episode at all; just indicating that things keep happening during winter, and that it's three months/moons long, is enough.

5. TOP CROSSOVER FIC I HOPE SOMEONE ELSE WILL WRITE: One Punch Maud
Heh.
Heheheh.
In canon, Maud hasn't demonstrated quite the same power as Saitama. You... might go the fusion route, and make her that powerful, but I'd rather see Maud dropped into the One Punch Man world and try to get home. It'd mostly be goofy seeing/imagining them wearing almost the same expression all the time, but there's character opportunities, too. While Saitama is genuinely bored most of the time and changes expression when he isn't, Maud has demonstrated her emotions in her own way time and again. Maybe she can cry in her sleep about missing home, thereby flooding Saitama's apartment, even as her expression stays virtually unchanged.
Now imagine Saitama dubbed by a slightly more emotive Ben Stein.
Heeheeheehee.
(Dan Vs. is disqualified because it's been done and because I'm doing it too.)

6. TOP RACE i WANT TO URGE THE WRITERS TO GIVE ANOTHER APPEARANCE: Diamond Dogs
Honorable mention goes to batponies, who have appeared in about one and two thirds episodes (definitely Nightmare Night, debatably Bats!, and maybe sorta count The Scare Master). If you ignore the small sample size, that's almost once per season except for the formative first and the half-length third. The writers know they're teasing fans of batponies; I think they're due another appearance this season.
Diamond Dogs, though? One episode, then just barely not forgotten, with human cameos in Rainbow Rocks and the related short Player Piano. I have the same problem with their absence as I mentioned with winter; they're right there!
Then again, the Everfree Forest is right next to Ponyville, but that doesn't mean a cragodile has to pop out every month. I stand by my ruling, though.

7. TOP ASPECT OF MAGIC i WANT TO SEE NAILED DOWN: Dragon biology
Now that Twilight is on writing terms with the Dragon Lord, can we get some more details on how dragons grow? Spike grew tremendous with the size of his hoard, but I'm not certain that's the only aspect, considering that more of the dragons we've seen are pony-sized than mountain-sized. Not only that, but so far, Spike has never grown wings. Can he?
What about Spike's mail spell? Can any fire-breathing dragon cast it? And while Spike and Celestia have sent and received letters between each other many times, we've never watched Celestia send a letter. That's one quarter of the system's inner workings, hidden in a black box sealed with red tape and tucked away in a steel safety deposit box. (Or the writers just didn't think of an answer. Well, they really should!)

8. TOP CRACKSHIP THAT NEEDS TO BE A THING: Celestia x Troubleshoes
If you compare Troubleshoes to Sweetie Belle to Rarity to Celestia, or Troubleshoes to Scootaloo to Rainbow Dash to Celestia, Troubleshoes is a little taller. And heavier built.
There weren't any stories with both Celestia and Troubleshoes last time I searched. Go wild.
This will never get that far in the show, but in that context, I'd be fine with them standing next to each other. It would amuse me.

9. TOP CREATURE I WANT TO SEE AGAIN: Phoenix
I'm not sure about the titles of this category and number 6. Many species, like minotaurs, have had speaking roles, and many, like cats, never will (unless magic changes that, but shut up). But what's the dividing line? English? Society? Magic? In the chimera's case, is three a quorum? Are breezies a race or merely a species? And if those words form a wrong dichotomy, what's the right one, or is there one?
But back on topic. Spike had a pet phoenix for a while, named Peewee. (Pee Wee?) Celestia still has a pet phoenix named Philomena (probably; no reason to think she let her go or gave her away). Philomena probably still lives in Canterlot with Celestia, so yeah. Winter.

10. TOP NEW THING I WANT IN THE SHOW (OR EVEN JUST IN MORE FANFICS): Sleipnir(s)
If you do some detective work on me, you might be weirded out by what you find, so I'll try to give you enough relevant info here to avoid that.
Norse mythology hasn't been used in the show, unless you count days of the week. (Neither, I think, has much Eastern or African mythology, and those are unjustly broad categories, but let's move on to what I know, or at least what I can reliably look up.) Sleipnir was a single pony whose father, SvaĆ°ilfari, built the walls of Asgard, separating the gods from the mortals.
There's a bunch more I'm skipping for not being equine-related (though much of it is present in my headcanon), but Sleipnir himself was a gray eight-legged horse who could run incredibly fast, even over air. And I freely confess to cherry picking, but we've seen some of these aspects displayed by Pinkie and Maud. Actually, I'll link you all a picture: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9938132/
(Just thought of something while writing this last entry. "SvaĆ°ilfari" is Norse for "unlucky traveller." Perhaps unlucky => Trouble, and traveller => Shoes?...)

Basically every one of these is, just, yes. Very agreement.

Twilight and Discord is Picard and Q, and would work well for the same reasons. He needs a straight mare.

One Punch Maud would be pretty epic, but there is at least one One Punch Man crossover floating around, by Aquaman no less.

Celestia x Troubleshoes is a pretty amazing crackship. I'll even supply a plot if someone wants to rev their creative engines: After getting the Crusaders' friendship letter about their Appleloosa trip, she invites him to "liven up" the Grand Galloping Gala, because seriously that event appears to exist only to creatively destroy Canterlot for Celestia's amusement.

As for #10, I am happy to inform you that the Royal Canterlot Library has got you covered. :pinkiehappy:
