    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Fallout 4: Angel's Pip-Boy Diary #26 · 5:51pm Apr 19th, 2016

art by Almar

Time for another installment of Angel’s Pip-Boy Diary. :rainbowdetermined2: It’s been a while. So since interest in this may have faded, I will reiterate: please let me know if you lose interest in reading APBD. (I don't want Angel to outstay her welcome.)

Meanwhile, a few videos that I just have to share:

First up, we have SkyBolt's latest musical delight for all you wastelanders! :moustache:

And I'm happy to say that Strategic Jordan's reaction series for Fallout: Equestria has just hit Chapter Seventeen. :pinkiegasp: If you like the story and like react videos, you shouldn't miss out on this series.

Angel's Pip-Boy Diary is below the break. For our break picture, I give you the first panel of Gray Day's "She Romes Around" comic. (I would post the whole thing, but shrinking it down any farther might make the text difficult to read. You can find the rest through the link.)

Angel's Pip-Boy Diary

Day 46

Day 46 – Midnight
December 8, 2287

Fort Strong has been cleared. Danse and I are doing a final sweep, but I can already tell there are no more ogres hidden in the place. There is no word for stealth in ogre-ese.

According to a terminal, the soldiers here were testing T-51B power armor suits and the M42 “Fatman”. One soldier reported “I can’t even begin to describe what a ridiculous idea the M42 is.”

Nate retired from the military before the fatman saw significant deployment, but the weapon became common enough that I have run into more than one of them stored in various locations in the Commonwealth, as well as a power-armored raider wielding one in Lexington.

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a large mini-nuke cashe for the Brotherhood of Steel. I have only found a single warhead… make that three… whoa!

Holy hell in a handbasket!

Day 46 – Early Morning
December 8, 2287

Spent a good hour securing the mini-nuke supply for the Brotherhood, during which I had another long talk with Danse. He put our fight against the synths in perspective. Danse invoked the supermutants as an example both of tech over-reach horror and what synths could become. Supermutants certainly see themselves as superior, and humans as nothing but raw material to create more of themselves.

Danse’s apocalyptic fears are all too reasonable. From what I’ve seen, it wouldn’t take much for synths manufacturing synths to create enough of themselves to out-populate the civilization-constructive segment of the human population.

Okay, now how do we get back? Our vertibird blew up.

And isn’t that just the icing on the cake? I’m glad that I’m wearing power armor. This is going to be a long and unpleasant walk.

Day 46 – Morning
December 8, 2287

The storm ended about 8:30 am.

My power core is almost depleted, so we have stopped to swap it. Nobody has use for a fully drained core – they cannot even be scrapped safely. But maybe I can sell the nearly dead one for a few bottlecaps. After all, one of these powered Olivia for centuries. In fact, I might be able to rig up a generator to run off it for Tenpines Bluff.

We found another set of power armor in the bunker at the bridge. I marked it’s location for later retrieval.

Our path also brought us to Nordhagen Beach. I remembered that I did have business there. But… no. Screw Proctor Teagan. I’m hurt, irradiated, exhausted… I’m not stopping to strongarm the locals.

What I really want is a long nap.

Day 46 – Late Morning
December 8, 2287

What kind of robot is that? Is it an Institute design? The robot is humanoid with a uniquely feminine design, but the model strikes me as military.

We have entered East City Downs. I’ve told Danse to stay back and guard my empty suit of power armor while I investigated the very intersting noise up ahead.

They are holding robot races on the old Thoroughbred horse racing track here. Raiders and triggermen are betting on the outcome. I have to say, I love the robots’ names! My money is on Iron Maiden.

Crap. I think that guy spotted me. Well, this nest of thugs needed to be cleared out anyway. The real trick will be to eliminate the human trash without turning the robots hostile.

Day 46 – Evening
December 8, 2287

I wiped out the raiders and triggermen of East City Downs… and the robots are still racing!

I’ll come back later to loot this place when I retrieve that other suit of power armor. There is no sign of the purse for the October Classic. Not that I really expected to find it. Still, it is sad that I won’t have that bed made of money.

Danse and I finally got back to the airport base. After that, it was a quick flight up to the Prydwen for debriefing. Elder Maxson praised my work, and authorized me to use vertibirds to travel the Commonwealth. I have been given a supply of signal grenades so that I may summon a ride or aerial support whenever I need it. (Should my supply run out, Proctor Teagan will be able to sell me more.)

This is going to significantly change my ability to travel around the Commonwealth. If nothing else, by employing vertibirds for heavy lifting, I should no longer need to spend so much time creating and retrieving stashes. I should be able to drastically improved settlement renovations as well now that I have an easy method to haul supplies from places like Hardware Town. I might even be able to employ multiple vertibirds to carry larger generators in scavenged from sites across Boston.

My next assignment is to locate the Institute.

As expected, the Brotherhood has already scoured the original site of the Commonwealth Institute of Technology, but it has been long abandoned.

This is a long-term assignment that allows me a lot of freedom to pursue my other duties and interests. The Institute has been operating without discovery for a long time, so Elder Maxson is not expecting me to find it quickly or easily. However, my activities across the Commonwealth may serve to help uncover clues to the Institutes’ location that others miss. I cast a wide net.

Hmmm… it is a long shot, but Bunker Hill might be a place to start looking. Unlikely, since Valentine says rogue/lost/escaped synths have their memories of the Institute blocked or deleted.

Another possibility: Hawthorne mentioned University Point. “Go there if you want to see what the synths are capable of.” Again, it is a long shot. University Point is so publically-known that if the Institute had left any clues there, they would have been discovered already. I would expect the Institute to have cleaned the place of anything that might lead to them.

For now, I am heading back home to get some long and well-earned sleep!

Before leaving, I turned over the technical documents that I recovered from Fort Strong to Proctor Quinlan.

I am now making the slog back to my nearest homestead. I just passed the East Boston Preparatory School. The place had lights and looked inviting. But I’m too exhausted, so I’ll come back and say hello later.

Why did Boston Airport have to be out on a peninsula so far from everything?

For that matter, why didn’t I just sleep in the Prydwyn. Or go home via vertibird? I’m clearly exhausted and not thinking straight. Okay, screw taking the long way. I’m cutting across the harbor. I need to wash the blood and ogre-crud out of my clothing anyway. The radiation shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I have power armor. And a mirelurk cake will allow me to breathe underwater for the trip across.

Day 46 – Early Night
December 8, 2287

Had to swap the power core again. I came out of the water near the Old North Church. I have never been in this part of post-apocalyptic Boston before, so I am taking it slow and careful. No sightseeing. With luck, I’ll make it back to Hangman’s Alley by midnight.

I can see a raider nest at Haymarket Mall. The bodies hanging from chains give it away. I’ll be back to deal with them when I’m not dangerously sleep-deprived. I already put my life at risk cleaning human predators out of East City Downs. One mass-murder a day is enough.

The worst part about being a soldier, Nate once told me, is how easy it becomes to kill enemy combatants. It kills part of your soul when the lives of other people become an obstacle to be removed rather than something precious. Granted, raiders have wasted that precious life, choosing to become a plague on decent people. They are a threat that needs to be dealt with.

But we don’t even try to jail or reform them. And they seem as accepting of this state as I have become. Raiders and triggermen never surrender. They never attempt diplomacy. Between the walls of settlements, the Commonwealth is a war zone. And anyone who picks up a gun and steps outside accepts a kill-or-be-killed mentality. In a very real way, carrying a gun is not only a sign that you are willing to use it, but that you have accepted being shot and killed. And nobody out here doesn’t carry a gun.

Unless they are instead carrying a lead pipe or pool cue and are stupid.

A thought occurred to me. With the memory technology of the Memory Den, I am willing to bet we could literally make them into better people. But that would be no different than killing them, and would open a Pandora’s Box of possible future horror that makes the synths pale in comparison.

Day 46 – Night
December 8, 2287

Passed a nice manor with a Mr. Handy outside and a no trespassing sign. The place looks incredibly well-preserved. I wonder how they get the nearby raiders to respect private property?

Another place to look at later: a power armor workstation in an old gun shop, not far from a children’s “ufo” playset. That reminds me, now that I will be traveling by air a lot more, I need to keep an eye out for wherever that whatever crashed down.

Shortly thereafter, I came across a street with a lot of mannequins standing around creepily. That was disconcerting. Especially in the dark of night and in my state of mental exhaustion.

However, the path did take me past the Boston Public Library. That is definitely a point of interest. I hope there are still some preserved books locked away safely in a vault, or some other intact collection of old-world knowledge and culture. It is painful to think that the treasures that library once housed may all be gone forever.

Finally! Familiar territory!

Hello, Diamond City patrol! Hello, street to Hangman’s Alley.

…and hello to a couple of raiders. Moving on my homestead. No. Just nope.

Bang.

“You killed her!”

Bang. Bang.

Killed you too.

Day 46 – Almost Midnight
December 8, 2287

One last order of business: I rigged up a power armor repair station at Hangman’s Alley. It is makeshift, but I’ll fix it up proper tomorrow.

Now...

I sleep!

Bang.

“You killed her!”

Bang. Bang.

Killed you too.

This so aptly sums up the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Great stuff as always, Kkat. I'm really looking forward to what happens when Angel meets Father.

Neat, so, got any of the DLC Kkat?

3881035 I think so, considering part of this mentioned nuclear generators at settlements, and those are locked behind Wasteland Workshop.

Bang.

“You killed her!”

Bang. Bang.

Killed you too.

This... this is so damn accurate to almost every instance of combat in Fallout 4 at high levels. :rainbowlaugh:

3881113 Yeah, espcially with the glory of the Gauss or Railway Rifle

"I'm too tired to throw signal grenades. I'll just walk halfway across the city."

Ah, the things we do when sleep-deprived.

3881116 Spray and Pray or Explosive Combat Shotgun for me. Just a bit more practical than lugging those around, awesome as they are.

3881133 I love my Explosive Combat Shotgun.

Always fun to read these.
Can't wait till she meets the Railroad, that should be an interesting one.

3881139 Especially paired up with Pain Train rank 3. People fly all over the bloody shop. :rainbowkiss:

3881147 That is true.

The worst part about being a soldier, Nate once told me, is how easy it becomes to kill enemy combatants. It kills part of your soul when the lives of other people become an obstacle to be removed rather than something precious.

I certainly like how you role-play Angels feelings into taking actions. I'm actually sort of still enjoying how the Undertale's level system works. If taking a life doesn't effect Angel, then what would separate her from the Raiders she's killing?

The fact the killing is affecting her makes her a very relatable character.

Although it certainly seems like the Commonwealth is starting to rub off on her just a bit when she's sleepy.:rainbowderp:

Even as a Zebra, Preston still finds ways to haunt the Wasteland.

Also, Buck the Radiation Storms! Buck them with a Quantum Harmonizer! :twilightangry2:

please let me know if you lose interest in reading APBD. (I don't want Angel to outstay her welcome.)

So long as the story keeps unfolding I'm pretty much happy. Haven't lost interest yet and with the newest DLC catching my attention I might just have to jump back into the Wasteland before the Far Harbor DLC gets released. Seriously, I am so out of practice with this game. I blame Boarderlands and its massive gun collection. :raritystarry:

Also, I just love Angel's fedora. :pinkiehappy: I don't know why, but I could picture Angel being a mob boss with the right attire. :rainbowlaugh:

That pony sitting at the table in the first picture is pretty much me when I start playing Fallout and Preston's voice is the first thing I hear. :pinkiesick:

Bored with it? Lemme check.

(Reads latest installment)

Nope. Interest still enraptured.

Lose interest? Perish the thought. Eagerly camp your page as a silent stalker desperate for that latest update of otherworldly goodness and wonderfully crafted story that is Angel's Diary?

...every hour if I could. Kkat you have an absolute genius to the way you're writing this. Just keep doing what you're doing - taking the time to write the chapter to the point you feel it works, and then posting it. We'll wait.

...not always patiently, but mostly quietly, letting you work at supplying us with great writing.

3881243 May I second this thought? Kkat you really do a wonderful job of creating not just an enjoyable story but a highly detailed character - one that encompasses all the myriad little bits that make a human: sadness, joy, love, hate, indifference, somber reflection...

Bravo.

Ah, Angel. Think you're getting accustomed to the horror's of the waste?

Just wait 'til you get to Salem and Dunwich.

And i like the Minuteman warning pic up top. Getting called in to help settlements is getting irritating now.

cashe

cache yes?

carry larger generators in scavenged from sites across Boston.

in scavenged sites from across Boston.

Ponified, er Zebrafied Preston Garvey is brilliant. :rainbowlaugh:

I am enjoying reading Angel's Pip Boy Diary as well. I try to keep up to read the latest diary pages. Heh Boston Public Library, I just visited there. Still need to do a thorough second cleaning of notable loot.

hey old chap
Do you have these Diary entries in a collection somewhere?
I'm trying to read them from front to back but its hard to find them all.
Thanks

4422338 Try using my blog index. That will list them all in order.

THERE'S A BLOG INDEX?
Okay when I'm not on a phone I'll look because I am one blind individual to not know where that is :twilightblush:
Thanks Kkat
