Hello everypony, Miss Koi is back but this time as a solo review:D And today, I'm reviewing the very anticipated "The Gauntlet of Fire" epsiode:3! As soon as I read the synopsis for this episode, I was very excited for this one because 1) we get to possibly explore more about the kingdom of dragons and their culture, 2) meet new dragon characters, 3) have Spike possibly as a super heroic character, and 4) lots of adventure :D However, I was still kinda nervous for this episode because last time we had a Spike exploring Dragon culture episode, we got "Dragon Quest" and well...let's just say that Miss Koi was disappointed by that episode.
So, is this episode like "Dragon Quest"? The answer is... NO:D This episode certainly blew it's predecessor out of the water!:D I was happy to not only have my expectations met, but to also have an episode that offered some new things along with it<3
Now, what did I exactly like about this episode? For starters, geeky researcher Twilight is back people!
And she is acting as the MLP fan base throughout this episode, writing every new thing down about dragons;)
We also get a bit of meta/ fourth wall humor when Celestia and Luna were visiting Twilight. Celestia mentions to Twilight that it was nice just have pleasant and non-crisis centered visits since it seems like they only get to see ponies whenever the citizens need their help;)
There was alot of meta/fourth wall humor in this episode, poking alot of fun at itself. Especially when Ember asked Rarity and Twilight how they got through the tunnels without their help and the question was never answered :P

Speaking of Ember, our dear Dragon Princess, I really enjoyed her character and how she was portrayed in this episode <3 She is definitely going to be on my list of favorite Season 6 characters with Tender Tap;) 
I really like her design because it's visually appealing and unique at the same time. I liked how other dragon designs, and how their designs varied, remind me of the movie "How To Train Your Dragon" because the dragons in that movie had very edgey and unique designs that varied with each species too.

I instantly thought of this guy from "How To Train Your Dragon":
Anyway, back to Ember, I really appreciated how she was slightly different from other dragons because she believes in wit over brawns and strength in character:) I also enjoyed her friendship & interactions with Spike:) They bounced off each other well, as well as balance each other in a sense. But the real question is, based on this episode and Ember blushing when Spike hugged her, does Missy ship them? The answer is unfortunately, like Tender Tap X Apple Bloom and Starlight x Sunburst, I need a bit more scenes with Spike and Ember together to get a sense of their interaction and see if I actually ship them. However, I can see them as a cute couple and a good couple because they balance each other so well and have such a unique interaction. Maybe what's holding me back is the whole possible age difference between the two. Ember seems to be a teenager while Spike is a little kid. However, the other dragons did keep calling him a runt instead of just a kid or a baby. Maybe Spike is a teenager but just short for his age due to Spike not having a hoard of his own to help him grow. Hmm, I just need a full age confirmation and more scenes of these two together to make me fully ship them. But I do want to ship them.
Oh man, you would think I shipper like me would be just all over this ships: Starlight x Sunburst, Tender Tap x AppleBloom, and Ember x Spike. What kind of shipper am I for being so hesitant?0-0 However, on the plus side, Season 6 seems to be the season of shipping with all these subtle shipping blossoming this season:3 It makes me wonder...if this a sign for some future substantial shipping moments in the upcoming episodes for our favorite pegasus and our favorite draconequus :3 <3 ;)
I say yes!:D Hasbro, make sure to add some blushing between Fluttershy and Discord so that way people know for sure to ship these two, please & thank you;) Especially Discord blushing, it sounds so adorable:3
But for now, Hasbro convince me to ship these couples: Starlight x Sunburst, Tender Tap x AppleBloom, and Ember x Spike!:o My dear followers and readers, convince me to ship these couples as well!:0
Another thing I enjoyed about this episode was Garble:)
Now, I know what you guys are thinking: "What?!:o Missy, how could you say that?! Garble is the stereotypical bully jerk!Xo"
My response is: Yes, he is still the stereotypical bully jerk dragon we saw in "Dragon Quest", BUT with a bit more personality and characterization and humor. Garble served as a great comic relief character in this episode, as well as a great character for Spike to bounce off with. The contrast between Garble's literal simple mind sense of humor and Spike's sarcastic sense of humor created great moments in this episode, and shows how much Spike has grown in his back bone as well as give personality to Garble. I think the funniest moment by Garble is when he hugs the Dragon Lord's nose, and he can't tell the Dragon Lord why he's doing it XD Lol! I don't know, maybe it was because of my "Kind Yet Humble Courage" story has somehow created a Garble soft spot in me;) :P
Speaking of Spike, this is probably by the far one of the best or possibly the best Spike episode I've ever seen:D Not only does it show Spike's good qualities, but how he uses those good qualities to teach others and use them to get him out of sticky situations. But we also see a sense of growth and maturity in Spike by the way he acted in the scene of telling Twilight and Rarity that he's going to compete to become Dragon Lord in order to save Equestria, even it means that he'll never live in Equestra again. That scene made me go awww:

For a moment, I thought Ember was going to get to the scepter first for sure since the episode was going to led her becoming Dragon Lord since we can't have our main dragon Spikey not live with the Main Six. But no, to my surprise, Spike got to the scepter first:o It made me interested in a idea on what if Spike was the Dragon Lord. What if Ember didn't accept the scepter and convinced Spike to be the Dragon Lord because he deserved it and how he can bring peace between dragon & pony kind? Don't get me wrong, I love how Ember is the Dragon Lord and I have a feeling, like Gilda, she's going to change her culture in a very positive yet assertive manner. However, I would love to read a fanfic exploring the idea of Spike having to deal the hardships of being far away from the Mane Six, learning about dragon culture, and learning how to be a good Dragon Lord, with Ember being like his advisor or something. Fimfiction get on this!:o
The only thing that I didn't like about this episode is when Ember and Spike were fighting Garble, and Twilight & Rarity couldn't help in this fight. Really? They couldn't even fight, even though they have fought worse things in the past -_- Really? -_-
Overall, I can't decide whether to give this episode 8 hearts or 8.5 hearts or 9 hearts out of 10. I know it's in that range for now. I need to watch more Season 6 episodes to see where this episode will officially rank, but I know this episode will definitely be high on the list:)

I agree with you on Garble's character. I probably wouldn't have thought of him as someone more if you hadn't come up with the fanfic about him.
I also agree with the possibility of an Ember/Spike shipping. You do make good points about Spike's age.

In terms of Ember/Spike shipping, my friend Ink Quill did have a good point saying how their age difference would make much of a difference once they get older and really giant and all that fun jazz. Which is true now that I think about it.

A beautiful episode but I totally understand what you feel about Ember x Spike, and about the fight scene
About the fight, I think that maybe Rarity and Twilight felt, it was Spike's and Ember's personal fight with Garble or something like that? ..Maybe?
About the Ember x Spike thing there one thing that I can't help but think about... is Spike giving up on Rarity?
Don't get me wrong, I actaully really like Sparity ( I even made a kid for them in the next generation), but I can't help feel that Hasbro is maybe showing us that Spike is maybe growing up and expects that Rarity doesn't maybe feel the same about him as he doesn't for her maybe?
But it's maybe just me, and of course I know doesn't know what Hasbro thinks or what they has in plans for the show?
But I of course thinks that people should ship what they want!
