It was not a soft letdown, but I guess I shouldn't have as expected much as I did. As a freshman barely known by my older peers, I don't suppose there was much room for me to be received well by the audience. I went first by drawing; I guess I didn't start 'em off well.
I was hopeful I might be given a chance by the judges, who were mostly older and might've heard and appreciated "So Doggone Lonesome," a Cash song from the '50s, but they really seemed to go for the more contemporary songs. Curse their currency! But I'll have to really come out swinging next year. Smack 'em with something like "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals next year. Until then.
Hehehe. I had working a bit of courage to maybe try to sing a full song (as opposed to cover a short, relevant clip for an intro to my readings) on my channel, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be worth it. I wouldn't be able to do the songs I sing much justice without instrumentals, and I can't play or synthesize music to save my life yet. For clarity, this has helped me decide against singing for the 200 subscribers special.
...I wish I knew more sad songs to sing to help me swallow my disappointment. Things usually run either really well or poorly, and I just can't win them all, I guess. With my degree of talent, I should not be this inwardly competitive.
Nah, I think I'm a more disappointed over the fact that I didn't get to sing as much as I had liked to in front of an audience. I guess I didn't earn it, then, this time.
Edit: I spoke with a few audience members today. General consensus was that the competition was poorly assembled and the judging was loaded. A guy, who I expected to actually sing better than I had heard him sing while I was around to hear him, actually sang rather poorly but ended up winning against two girls with stunning voices.
Still, I am apprehensive about performing for YouTube. I honestly don't think the people subscribed to me would want to hear me sing; it's just not what they're at my channel for.

Sorry man. That's a shame, those songs you chose are pretty solid. And House of the Rising sun is a great song, one of my personal favorite rock songs from the 60s.
You're still a freshmen so plenty of time to improve. There's always next year.

Eh, I'm not so sure it actually came down to the quality of my singing itself. I'm pretty sure I just wasn't their taste.
3871778 Oh yeah I see. Well that's still a bit of a shame though. I still think they shouldn't be kinda arbitrary like that.

Well, it just wasn't based on individual singing merit, I don't think. I think some people other than I were greatly disappointed.
