Whatever you want to call the cross-eyed pegasus her main defining trait are her eyes. How badly would the fandom implode if she started wearing glasses to correct her vision? Because there are certain kinds of glasses out there for crossed-eyes and lazy-eyes that will help the person see correctly.
One of my own aunts has a special prism affixed to her glasses to correct her lazy eye. They have better treatments for babies with crossed-eyes now but they didn't have them them when she was young and her problem came back after many years because the treatment didn't stick. So, by that reckoning, Derpy should get glasses. We've seen other characters with glasses, shouldn't we see her addressing her problem, taking care of it like an adult? That would be a good lesson to impart.
I smell a decent premise for a fanfic brewing.
People might object if she really got glasses for real in the show, or they might accept it if it's presented well. But in a fanfic, I don't think people would go ballistic.

At least a fanfic. I'll chew over the idea. Maybe I'll write it and publish it.
I would hope (adult) fans wouldn't go crazy but I wouldn't hold my breath. Even if it is really something that does make a difference! If I were cross-eyed, I would do what I need to to make my life better. I already do that by wearing glasses! But, sadly, people don't think about things like that.
