Fanfiction Spotlight #56, and 1 Week Warning for Scribblefest!

Greetings Pony fans and aspiring writers!

Sorry for the radio silence from us. We here at EFNW are working hard to get stuff ready for Everfree to make this year's con just as awesome as previous years. Unfortunately sometimes that means Heartshine gets busy and forgets to update the story spotlights!

Scribblefest 2016 Finalists! · 1:57am Apr 7th, 2016

EDIT: Winners have been announced.

Scribblefest 2016 Finalists!

Art by Dark Flame http://darkflame75.deviantart.com/

Our judges have been hard at work reading through all the stories submitted, and we've moved onto the final round of judging. Our rules allowed each judge to nominate up to one story per award, and those stories advanced to the final round. Some stories were also nominated for multiple awards, though no story may actually WIN more than one. You'll notice that many awards have fewer contenders, as many stories were often nominated by multiple judges. Also note, all stories are listed more or less in the order they were submitted. Position in these lists has nothing to do with current scoring.

Disclaimers aside, on to the nominations!

The Jaw-Dropper Award ("The Dash")
We all know the type, the stories that make us go "Holy cow, THAT just happened!" This would go to the story with the best twist, surprise, or simple moment of hoof-pumping awesomeness!

Weatherpony
Once More With Feeling
The Kidnapping of Twilight Velvet
Hope

The Elegance Award: ("The Rarity")
For services to poetic language, beautiful diction, haunting prose, and overall elegance in writing.

An Ordinary Day
Raven
The Mare of the Equestrian Eighth
Memories
Ashes
Marble's Horizon

The Checklist-And-Caliper Award ("The Twilight")
The story with the most attention to detail. This could be a puzzle or mystery type plot, stories that rely on actual math/science, or ones that show well thought-out rules underlying the use of magic. Basically, any story that makes you wonder just how much time the author spent on research, calculations, plot diagrams, or anything else that wasn't actually writing.

Raven
Holder's Boulder
Creatura Somnii
My Flight
Take With Food

The D'aww Award ("The Fluttershy")
A staple of ponyfic... the story with the sweetest, most touching moment that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Rainy Daze and the Darkness Within
Marble's Horizon
Pegasus
The Inadequacy
The Kidnapping of Twilight Velvet
The Smell of Muffins
Sweat, Tears, and a Video
Growing Pains

The True Fable Award ("The AJ")
The story that is most true to the spirit of the show. By definition, a fable is "a short story, typically with animals as characters, conveying a moral." This goes to the story that best teaches a life lesson, especially using old fashioned, honest-as-apple-pie wisdom.

My Flight
Idols
Kaleidoscope
The Inadequacy
Slow And Steady

The Nasally Ejected Beverage Award ("The Pinkie")
You know, the one that makes you laugh so hard you snort milk out your nose.

Sock Hop Sonata
The Kidnapping of Twilight Velvet
Once More With Feeling
Spike’s Slightly Dangerous New Hobby
Give A Like - Feed A Changeling

Congratulations to all our finalists! We hope to have final results and winners ready to announce sometime in the next week or so. Keep following us here on FIMFiction, and of course check out Everfree Northwest online at http://everfreenw.com

See you all again soon!

Ooh, I'm seeing a bunch I liked up here. I think I managed to get through 20 of the entries, and I can see 13 up here out of that number (excluding my own). I'm glad to see Marble's Horizon in a few of those categories: it was one of my favourites. I also expected a few of the others to make it up there. There are also one or two I did not expect, but I guess I have to get surprised some day.

I'm glad that I was able to read all the stories competing for my category, although I do find it interesting that there are only four stories for that category. Sounds like it had the most renominations by the judges, if I'm not wrong.

Well I didn't think I would win, but it was worth being a part of this and I look forward to ding this again next year.

Cheers mates!

Awww. Dang. I was hoping I would make the finals. Oh well! Good Luck everyone! Rooting for the Inadequacy.

Oh wow! :O I seriously didn't expect it to make the finals! I'm so happy! I didn't really think my work was all that good...
Congratulations to everyone who made it to the finals! And good luck in the next round!

Quick, note, two stories were accidentally listed under "Fluttershy" when they rightly belonged to "Twilight." That's been corrected in the listings above.

... sigh year then...

I won't deny that I've basically been refreshing the EFNW blog every day for the past week waiting for the news! :rainbowwild: I'm so excited to see the nominations!! :pinkiehappy:

I definitely did not anticipate being nominated for three different categories - I'm flattered and stunned! :pinkiegasp: Thank you very much to the judges who liked my story!! :raritystarry: I was hoping to make it to the finals, but being nominated for more than one - wow, I'm floored! Thank you very much! I just hope my story measures up to the other beautiful stories, I've seen some gorgeous writing in this contest!

Best of luck to all of the writers!! You are all fabulous!

*screams inside*

Oh jeez, I didn't expect to make the finals! That's awesome! I'm not much against the others in my caragory, but I'll just have to wait and see what the judges think, eh?

3853483 love you

3853178 Many thanks, Hap! And I'm pretty thrilled to be nominated (twice, no less!) as well. Good luck to you, hope you'll wish the same for me, and best of luck to the other entrants!

Huh. I always thought I'd up for the Applejack award if I made it this far, but I'm thrilled to be included. Good luck to everyone!

3857807 Heh, I'm more thrilled about my one. I've only got three stories to compete with. If I'm looking at numbers only, you've got a 1/7 (2/14) shot, whereas I have a 1/4, assuming I've not miscounted.

O'course, probabilities don't mean all that much here. Numbers end when letters begin, and all that.

Good luck, either way you want to slice it!

Late to the party, but wow I actually am a finalist. In a category I wasn't even expecting, no less.

Best of luck to ya'll.
