Well folks... three days after releasing probably the riskiest thing I've ever written (and that IS saying a lot), it's time to start in on the next chapter. A thousand-word outline is already written, and I'm going to start fleshing it out today. Needless to say, more surprises are planned, a lot of things have to be addressed, and I'd like to reiterate again that I am not planning on any sort of bad ending or breakup here. This coming chapter, I think, is the one that will validate the previous chapter and make or break the story the most, so you can bet I'll be listening to prereader feedback quite closely.
Can I pull it off? I believe I can. I'll be going for my usual mixture of worldbuilding, storytelling and character development with at least a little sex on the side. Maya has to come to terms with what she feels or may feel or Nick and what happened with Vinyl, while Phoenix and Twilight have to fully understand each other's fears... and their own. As for how I'm going to do that... well. That's a surprise. I will be aiming to have the new chapter draft ready in one week with the release following on April 15th.
Lost in all the shuffle is the fact that with this release, TLaTU finally broke 200 likes, just short of a year since its launch. 52 dislikes are ugly, but were pretty much unavoidable in this case due to the subject matter... though I do wish I hadn't marked it as Turnabout storm sequel to start.
Still, I don't think the likes/dislikes metric is an accurate measure of its readership or interest. I've gotten well over a thousand references from that comic-rocket website, and I'm pretty sure I've got a large number of readers who aren't fimfiction members judging by the decent number of daily reads even well away from chapter releases. I find it particularly gratifying that I have readers for it that aren't into clop but enjoy the greater story, and I will do my best to keep everyone around, whether you enjoy more the figurative or literal plot. It's a fine line to walk, trying to balance it all, but at its core this is an M-rated romance fic and that's how I've written it.
Anyway, I'd like to thank everyone who has followed and stuck by this story. It's been a very challenging but rewarding story to write, even spawned a new side story that wasn't even planned (Rise of Firefly). It's been a collaborative effort with folks like Leo Archon, whose contributions have made it much better, and the entire prereading crew which kept it on track. It's been a huge test of my own creative writing abilities, one I like to think I've for the most part passed. It's coming to an end in the next few chapters and I'll try to make it a satisfying one.
I'll release a chapter teaser when available.
Firesight is such a tease, he is now teasing us with the tease!
