Her redemption: it was quick, yes, but for the most logical reasons. The PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP ASKED HER TO BE FRIENDS. Her entire motivation for enforcing equality was so that she would never have to face a bad friendship like with Sunburst! That's like if Chrysalis was offered total rulership of and love from the Crystal Empire on the condition that she doesn't ever try to take love from Equestria! No duh Starlight reformed! In fact, she'd probably have reformed even faster if not for her jealousy of Twilight's magical connection to her friends blinding her to the fact that she was in the wrong.
Why she and Sunburst lost touch: this was addressed in the Crystalling, but apparently the viewers need to be spoonfed information. Sunburst cut contact with Starlight because he was embarrassed about how much of a failure he was. Hell, it's clear he's the one that avoided contact considering how he decides to slam the door on her when she comes knocking saying "Yo I'm chill with the princesses and I think you're awesome af lets be friends".
Those seemed to be the two main issues with her among the fandom, and the first one was just a case of fandumb while the second one has now been explained and ignored in favor of shipping and Alicorn outrage.
