The Crystalling Review by the HeroofBergen · 4:55pm Mar 26th, 2016
Disclaimer: If you haven't seen the Season 6 premiere don't proceed. A few possible spoilers ahead.
I just watched the Season 6 premiere of MLP, and it might be the best one yet. Season 6 came faster than anyone had expected and it looks to deliver. I was not a fan of Starlight Glimmer in the fifth season. Me being a firm believer that her backstory almost destroyed the finale of last season. But this episode seems that show staff are wanting her to become like Sunset. A character that it is a terrible villain but a great reformed character later. I love her portrayal in the episode. Her relationship with Sunburst was great and gave great development to both. I am completely convinced that Sunburst is a younger version of Starswirl the Bearded. Starlight learning 'friendship' lessons from Twilight looking to become one of the major plot points of this season. Similar to the Rainbow Eyes of Season 4 and the Cutie Map in Season 5.
Spike was also had a great showing, probably his best since Inspiration Manifestation in Season 4. With Spike helping out Starlight, but not being annoying well doing it.
The introduction of Flurry Heart was a great addition to bring the amount of Alicorns to five. I really hope that the show will include her in more episodes than just the premiere and finale. Flurry Heart being officially named the Princess of Cuteness and Humor. I laughed a lot in this episode. Most of the comedy being put forth by the craziness of Flurry Heart's magic. With Pinkie and Twilight trying to keep the young filly in check. Not to mention the hilarious opening of Shining Armor being completely exhausted when he meets Twilight at the train station.
This episode was also very epic with the two alicorn sisters fighting off the powerful storms of the far north. Also in a stunning turn of events. THE ALICORNS ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING! Sorry, but in all seriousness, this was the very first two-parter were the alicorns, outside of Twilight, were actually helpful. With Celestia and Luna teaming up to fight off the storms trying to destroy the Crystal Empire, and Cadence being a mother. Yeah, that is a job all on its own. This episode even had a few shocking moments when I said to myself "Oh Shit! Did that just happen." If you have seen the episode you know what scene I am talking about.
I loved this episode. The first part starts off a little slow with a larger focus on Starlight than I had been expecting, but after the ponies get to the Crystal Empire the show really picks up and becomes great. All in all, I thought that this was a great episode. It really defied my expectations, and in a good way.
My final rating for the Season 6 premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a great 9 stars out of 10. As always I am the HeroofBergen signing off.
Hey, I see that you watched the new episodes. I really liked it, I watched it live on Discord with a brony group on Steam.
3828196 I watched it on a live stream that I found on my Google Plus account. I love the episode. Probably my personal favorite premiere so far. The episode that I surely looking forward to this season is when Spike returns to the Dragonlands. Maybe the show will show dragons as something more than just a bunch of jerks, or maybe not.
3828235 Ok, that sounds fun. I am wanting to see if the changelings will show up again.
