    Revised Harmony Spirits

I wanted a full set of these with proper art, so with permissions from mauroz, here they are. A couple effects have been tweaked to be consistent with modern vernacular in the card game and for my own better understanding of card design and balancing, and I also added a new "Tier 1.5" form for Twilight so she can have her own Fusion outside the ace monster, and finally added Sunset as a

2024 will (hopefully) be the end

The outline is done, the roadmap is drawn, all that remains is to follow it. There may be some bumps along the way, but we'll be on our way.

My friends, let us step together beyond the horizon.

Drake's Reviews #10 · 1:09am Mar 25th, 2016

I've had the pleasure of meeting some pretty cool folks here at Fimfiction, and some of them I'd consider myself friends with. Albinocorn, Mythril Moth, Cerulean Voice, PresentPerfect, and the writer of today's story, RTStephens. Dood has been pre-reading for me since Twilight Falls, Sunset Dawns. And while I'm of course grateful to all my commenters and especially pre-readers for devoting time to providing their opinions on my work, I've not done much to RT to express that gratitude other than offer those words to him. Everyone else I've read and commented on some of their work or just chatted with them in PM, but not here. Heck, it occurs to me I'm not even sure what "RT" stands for. :twilightblush: I could wire him some money, I guess, but I'm unemployed and currently live on 30 bucks a week from my volunteering plus whatever transcripting work my documentary maker contact feels like sending my way on-line, and with those meagre pennies I've got student loans to pay. Thank heavens my parents don't ask me for rent, they're cool that way.

But, this isn't about my problems, laughable as they are (reading other blogs here makes one realize I'm actually rather well-off, all things considered). This blog is about my good friend RTStephens. I've been promising both of us for as long as I've known the guy that I'd read a particular fic of his, but long fics usually scare me off because I'm rarely in the mood to spend hours on them even when I have the time. But, this week I do. So, for my 10th review blog and 50th review, let's take a look at "Trixcord."

The fic opens on Trixie sneaking into Canterlot Castle to get a peak at Discord's statue, as she's about to do a show about the Elements of Harmony defeating him and wants to portray an illusion of him accurately. At her close proximity, Discord is freed and latches onto her as a host, too weak to exist on his own. Trixie, passed out when it happened, is unaware of this and goes about her life as Discord causes chaos in his own way, slowly building up his powers and, eventually, trying to break free of Trixie's body to be on his own again.

One thing I absolutely must commend this story on - I had no idea where it was going. It kept me interested but kept throwing twists and turns in to make me keep guessing, often wrongly. Discord and Trixie are well-characterized, and no one else was out of character, with only the occasionally line seeming a bit off for the pony saying it. I appreciate that Celestia gets involved in the crisis personally, and is then excused from the story for an acceptable reason. About the only thing I raise an eyebrow at is the absence of Luna during the climax, but I believe this was written before Season 3, so I'd assume Luna is still adjusting to life and not up to social outings yet.

Now, even if the dood is my friend, I'm not gonna be totally glowing. A couple telly passages here and there, sometimes Discord holds the Idiot Ball (though that's in his nature, canon considered), and I wasn't big on the ending. In particular what was disappointing is an early reference to "forgiveness" as an Element of Harmony that I thought was foreshadowing for the ending, but wasn't. The ending was very unexpected, but I didn't care for it. Didn't hate it or dislike it, but "eh." But that doesn't detract from everything else that was great.

Recommendation: An enjoyable piece for fans of Trixie and Discord.

Here's to many more fics, many more reviews, and many more ponies.

No need to empty your pockets. RT is just my first two initials, Reggie and Thomas.

This was written in the middle of season two, just after it started and just before it ended. So this is going to completely ignore anything that happened in season three and beyond. It's pretty much why I left Luna out of it since I didn't have much use for her honestly and didn't have a solid grasp on her character.

A very early work of mine and it shows. I've tried re-writing it several times so that it would be more presentable, but after a while I got fed up and left it as it was.

Still, I'm happy that it was enjoyable, even if the ending wasn't to your liking. I sometimes try to play against type and do the unexpected, with varying degrees of success obviously.

In particular what was disappointing is an early reference to "forgiveness" as an Element of Harmony that I thought was foreshadowing for the ending, but wasn't.

I'm curious to know where this part felt foreshadowed as I had no intentions during the entire story to do this.

Thanks for the review!

I was gonna make a joke that your name was really "ReTweet Stephens" but then you had to go and be honest D:

3825334 In the first chapter Trixie mentions walking past statues of the Elements and names "Forgiveness" as one of them.

I know your pain with revisions, it's just exhausting after a while. My magnum opus, Shards of Memory, is full of telly talk and grammatical errors, but I don't have the will to go back and fix them.

Thanks again for all your support and the good read, Reggie. :raritywink:
