How about we all take a hint from most of Arizona, cut the fucking bullshit, and abolish Daylight Savings Time?

It serves no purpose in this day and age.

Want another hour of daylight? Get up a fucking hour early.

It gives me a reason to write a story off of a goofy pun.

Good enough for me.

Thank you, I'm so sick of this stupid shit. Pick a time and just fucking leave it alone.

Amen, Miles. Good thing someone finally said it.

I already have enough sleep problems as is. This time change BS does not help me whatsoever.

In other words:

Personally I've learned to deal with it and move on. It helps that I don't do shit on Sundays anyway. Though it does occur to me that we actually moved the beginning of DST from the beginning of April to the second week on March just a few years ago. If this timekeeping gimmick has no apparent purpose to it, why'd we extend it an extra three weeks?

People are stupid sometimes. :applejackunsure:

Agreed. It serves no purpose but to abuse the fair people of America, Canada, and Mexico.

Eeyup. We don't use dst here.

Wasn't it's only purpose so people could save their candles or something? I don't know. All it does now is mess with people's schedules.

We in Australia will take all your extra DST.

Wait is that how it works? Who cares we'll take it anyway.

Totally Agree. DST is bullshit and should be abolished.

The argument in favor of DST is that it saves energy, but I'm not sure that's true anymore. The studies "proving" that were done back in the 70's. The way we generate electricity has changed significantly since then (we use a lot less coal now and way more renewables). More importantly, society is profoundly different today. Back then, most people worked 9-to-5's, so it was easy to map energy usage amongst the general population. Today, more and more people are working nontraditional hours, and usage has shifted as a result. Thus, whatever energy is saved by shifting the clocks (and thus school/work start/end times) is probably countered by more energy being used at non-peak times by nontraditional workers. At least, that's my hypothesis.

Oh, and those studies? They said DST's energy savings were at best 1-2%.

More than that, it's just a headache for everyone. I think that's more important than cost savings – probably the only time you'll hear cheap ol' me say that.

Fun Fact: Hawaii doesn't observe DST either (it's in the tropics so there's no point; ditto for the US territories). Indiana used to not observe it*, until about a decade ago when their state legislature forced DST through over the objections of the people (they're still angry about it). The only part of Arizona that observes DST is the Navajo Nation, and that's probably only because its territory crosses state lines.

* Actually, 15 counties in Indiana did observe DST prior to 2006 – five near Chicago that use Central Time, five in the far south (Evansville) also in Central Time, and five in the southeast near Cincinnati that follow that city's lead.

No way, I like to see what Cartoon Network/Adult Swim does with the extra hour each year. :pinkiehappy:
