The real product. A story vignette in honor of the inventive mind of ConspiraPon3. · 10:19pm Mar 6th, 2016

Well, I've been writing and re-writing my current chapter of "rebuilding a crusade" (I'm hopefully about 2/3 of the way to the next chapter.) In the mean time I found a couple of amusing videos by the inventive mind of ConspiraPon3, which inspired me to write the story vignette below (it's not long enough to be a story, but I thought it was an amusing idea to write about... And a story idea that maybe somebody will write).

For reference here are the videos I'm thinking of:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms9-hY3s0iM: Pegasi are robots constructed in the Rainbow Factory.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDUIGzGDZH4: Equestria is post apocalyptic earth. The Mane 6 are also clones made in the Rainbow Factory.

And here's the story vignette:

Stormy Flare carefully arranged the papers on her desk. About half of the massive stack was various maintenance and personal reports… Another quarter were complaints from when unit 829710511098111119-6897115104 had decided to damage the weather formation systems… Which had caused a massive blizzard, and numerous property damage claims.
And the final quarter were demands from various concerned citizens of Equestria, as well as several humanitarian groups, that the rainbow production system be shutdown to end the inequine treatment of ponies there in Cloudsdale. Stormy Flare could only giggle to herself. The myths of foals being ground up into rainbows was a just that, a myth… A myth, mind you, that was perpetuated by the Rainbow Factory management themselves.
The big secret about the secret of the Rainbow Factory was that every time they denied using foals as the special ingredient in rainbows, it was the truth. It would be ludicrous if Rainbows were made from foals… After all, they poured between 3,000 and 300,000 gallons, depending upon the factory output that day, of rainbow over the sides every day. No, the true secret of the factory was less horrific, and more tragic.
No! Stormy Flare reminded herself with a mental slap… We don’t talk about the factory… And, we don’t think about where it goes wrong. She reminded herself, with a sullen sigh, even as her eyes subconsciously glided towards the ‘failures’ cabinet…
A cabinet, that was filled with names of pegasi that had to be grounded for various genetic deficiencies... Stormy Flare couldn’t help but visualize some of the failures, despite how hard she tried not to… A timid and nearly flightless pegasus mare who was also current the Bearer of an Element of Harmony, a flightless orange filly, a massive white stallion with stunted wings, and a grey pegasus mare with lazy eyes… All ponies who had been banished to the ground with all of the other failures because they weren’t genetically fit to serve the flock.
Stormy Flare shook her head and tried to return to the ponderous pile of paper work. Naturally, she couldn’t be more grateful, as a knocking on her door drew her mind away from the tedium that was factory management. “Come in.” Stormy Flare called out. Her smile could only grow as she saw her daughter, her only child, enter into her quaint office.
“Hey mom, I just wanted to check on you.” Spitfire said with a nervous smile, her feet nervously stamping up and down.
I wonder which embarrassing question she’s going to ask about. Stormy Flare thought with a slight smirk. I bet it’s about why I haven’t been ‘around the town’ since Wind Rider died. Stormy Flare thought sagely.
“Hey mom… I was wondering why you haven’t tried to get married or have any more foals...” Spitfire asked, a slight embarrassment oozing at the back of her throat.
Called it. Stormy Flare thought with a silent snicker.
“I mean, we’re one of the last ten natural families… And so, don’t you think you should try to make more of us, before our line dies out.” Spitfire pressed, a slight frown replacing her nervousness. “After all, you’re only 45. You should be good for at least another 20 years.” Spitfire pushed.
“every mare is different when they stop hitting season.” Stormy Flare lectured calmly, almost robotically. And I stopped about 30 years ago. Stormy Flare thought bitterly, she’d never successfully fulfilled her destiny… She hadn’t bore a natural foal for her husband. No, she’d had to ‘borrow’ some of the factory’s product.
“I know, I know… But, you shouldn’t have any issues making it to 55… You should be able to easily get at least 5 brothers or sisters for me by then.” Spitfire insisted. The poor mare never understood when to put aside tradition, or prestige.
“We’ll see... ” Stormy Flare said as she carefully walked over to hug her daughter… “we’ll see.” she continued, despite the fact that the mare before her never was ‘born’ in a proper sense. She was just another product of the Rainbow Factory.
Yes, the true purpose of the factory… To make two products: weapons, and pegasi…. Pegasi perfectly bred and engineered to be a weapon themselves… Pegasi that were designed and programmed to defend Cloudsdale at any cost… at any cost.
