I got noticed by teh peoples! · 3:14am Feb 19th, 2016

So, I got in the Seattle's Angel's reviews...

...And I think that's pretty cool.

One Week Year apparently got stuck in there, which I think it well deserves. I do, after all, really like the story and am trying to get it in more places where it can get even more exposure than it did, what with it being the story I have (at present) spent the most effort on.

I'm also working on a new story... one that tackles a problem even more impossible than cramming a year in a week. It's currently approaching 30K words, and will likely go well above that as time goes on. As with most of my stories, it's about none other than Rainbow Dash, but it doesn't include AppleDash this time around. In fact, it's more to do with the limitations of physics and the rules the world imposes on people, as well as some of the more outlandish and downright impossible ways you can circumvent them.

So... do you think Rainbow Dash can fly faster than the speed of light?

So... do you think Rainbow Dash can fly faster than the speed of light?

Heck yeah.

3763811 It's a good start.

mmm.... aybe... she definately breaks the spectrum with the rainboom, but... could her body withstand that speed?

So... do you think Rainbow Dash can fly faster than the speed of light?

3763818 Well, the odds aren't in her favour. Not an awful lot can go faster than light, after all.

Rainbow Dash, faster than light? Not without a lot of help and some heavy Relativistic consequences. Hope you like shipping RD with old lady Applejack. :ajsmug:

Still gonna read it, though... honestly, I still need to sit myself down and read "One Week Year." But it is on my to-do list!

3763826 I guess you could say I'm relatively confident she's got a chance.

Heck, if you need more encouragement, click the link to read what SA has to say about it! To be frank, they're probably more enthusiastic about it than I am. And I'm me! You've got no idea how enthusiastic I am about myself. It's one of my better qualities.

3763815 Could her body withstand the speed of sound? There are some serious forces involved with that alone. I should know: I've studied aerospace and jet engines. Those buggers aren't fragile.

3763830 Yeah, I can say thats magic, but light? I have to put the line somewhere

3763827 Well, I was going to get to it anyway no matter what the reviewers said, but I decided I have some time now, so I'll start reading it.

And right off the bat I noticed that your imgur pic links for the fancy chapter divider lines are broken.
...F:yay:king imgur. :twilightangry2:

Congrats! Seattle's Angels are awesome aren't they? I noticed that you got featured, congrats! (I SAY FEATURED BUT I MEAN STORY GOT PUT IN PLZ DON'T JUJ AN GIT BUTHURT LOVE BLAZEN)

Congrats man! It must've been a honor for you to be promoted in such a way! I'm proud of ya!

If Rainbow can't even beat Sonic, then she has no chance against light.

Congrats on the Angel review!

As for your question, almost certainly not, even with the most potent pegasus magic in a generation. Dash's impact resistance* can withstand the deleterious effects of breaking the sound barrier, yes, but relativistic speeds are a whole other kettle of speedometers. Time dilation isn't the only issue. There's also a vicious cycle caused by mass-energy equivalence. The faster you go, the heavier you get. A particle with any mass at all achieves infinite mass at light speed. Photons, which move at the speed of light by definition, are massless. Eventually, Dash is going to be going so fast that she literally can't push herself any faster. She may even get too heavy to stay airborne.

Superluminal velocity just isn't an option... assuming that Equestria's physics functions exactly like our own. There's the big question. Given how there's no light speed delay when someone's moving the sun or moon, it's unclear quite how it works in that world. That ambiguity gives Dash a paper-thin chance of succeeding. After all, it's not like we could compress a year's weather into a week.

*Clearly a part of pegasus magic, given how often she's crashed with no lasting effects. Note that the one time she did seriously injure herself, they didn't show the actual crash. Probably would've lost the TV-Y rating if they had.

3764266 Science!

I think you might have some fun with what I'm cooking up, then. Turns out I've been thinking of all those things and factoring them in (with a lot of dumbing down and magification, of course, because there's only so much scientific buggery I can watch happen in the show before I start to lose faith in MLP's desire to follow the laws of physics.)

Besides,

If she does, she gets a whole edgy point from me.

Sure, given that the laws of physics in Equestria seem to be more like guidelines than anything else.

3767252 After all, what is the point of having rules if you can't break one or two?

Can Rainbow Dash travel faster than the speed of light......

Really it depends... Maybe if she ascended into an alicorn and got a significant boost to her magic levels?

I don't know dude.

This does bring to mind a certain story I read that was part of the Chess Game of the Gods universe (remember when that was a thing?).

I think it said in that story that there were seven barriers that could be broken in that universe: Sound, Magic, Wind, Sky, something, something else, and finally Time. And the only being to ever break through all seven was Firefly, the founder of the wonder bolts.

So, food for thought, be creative with the way you build the world, and you can toss physics out the window into a dumpster with a nuke in it. :)
