Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

Jealousy, thy name... · 3:31am Feb 16th, 2016

My inbox has been sadly barren of late, but hey, I just found something to talk about! :D

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a card game for 3-5 players (or fewer, if you know what you're doing) where you each play a superhero, a pastiche based off of classic characters from Batman and Superman to Dr. Manhattan and even Deadpool. Together, you work to bring down a villain before they can put their plans into action. It's a very dynamic, interactive game, and my absolute favorite.

It also has a digital variant, which is currently my only means of playing it. Every week for the past two months or so, the digital version has had "weekly one-shots", pre-determined scenarios where you're given a team of heroes, a villain and an environment, plus any extra rules like fixed card draws or the villain's advanced rules, which are generally unfair as hell. If you win in one try, you get a "mint cover" of the scenario (everything's very comics-based despite there being no actual comics) that you can brag about on the forums.

Today's one-shot is a scenario brought to us courtesy of a fanfic. That link leads to the official forum of the company that created and developed the card game. Yes, they have an honest-to-god fanfiction board in their forums. And they used one to set up this scenario.

You maybe now see what the title of this journal is about. :B If I don't post any ponyfics for a while, you'll be able to guess why.
(In all seriousness, I've been very meh about ponies lately. Too focused on Sentinels and SCP right now, sorry. D:)

That sounds like a pretty sweet game.

I put like 20 hours in. Did they ever put in online multiplayer?

Your inbox is not barren! I sent you something!

Sounds like some of the games I've played, but the ones I'm familiar with have more of an epic fantasy theme. the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game and Lost Legends come to mind first, but there's also Defenders of the Realm (though while that uses cards, it plays a bit more like a cooperative fantasy Risk) and the Firefly board game (which is space western instead of fantasy, obviously, and the cards aren't as big a part of it as the others).

When I get friends together for a game night, it is the nerdiest shit ever.

My brother-in-law plays Sentinels (both hardcopy and digital). He probably uses the name 'Ablaze'; if you see him say 'hi', :moustache:

Yeah, reminds me, what's been going on with your SCP stuff? I haven't heard anything lately from you on that in the Skype :3

I absolutely adore Sentinels of the Multiverse, though I play it in the cardboard variety as one might expect of me.

Can you play the online game with friends? If so, I'll happily download it so that you can have someone to blame for losing :)

Yes! That was added sometime in the middle of last year, and it works pretty well, if anyone's online. :)

I mean the one with comments and stuff. :( Too many zeroes. Also, I need to read that, I'm sorry.

That's cuz I haven't been on Skype. D: I was going to bed too early while working, and I've been spending a lot of time on the SCP chat while sick. c.c

Shit yeah! :D Yes, it's got online multiplayer support. Be sure to buy the season one pass so you can get the DLC as it comes (it's a good bargain). The downside of the digital version is it's very slowly catching up to the printed version, but the upside is not needing people in physical space to play! Also, all the variants!

FYI, GaPJaxie also plays. With Proto on board, that's enough for a decently-sized team! :D

3758243 What's your steam ID, sphincterboy?

3758243 I'll forgive you... if you beat me in a children's card game! Muhahahaha!!! Dueling Network.

I think it's just "takewalker", but it displays as "takewalker145". c.c I'm never sure, even when I check.
