Entry #7- The Pure Hearted · 7:30am Feb 14th, 2016
I enjoy listening to Pony music so much I have an iPod shuffle devoted to it: My PonyPod. I especially like the songs I can sing along to, so I end up reviewing official songs a lot. Occasionally, ‘the Failure Song’ from season 3’s Crystal Empire comes on, and I enjoying singing along to this little duet between Twilight & Spike. But one line just bothers me a lot:

Does someone that is pure hearted say that they are? Making that declaration seems more like bragging, which also doesn’t seem like a pure hearted saying. When I look up the definition of ‘pure hearted’ it means without malice, treachery, or evil intent; honest; sincere; guileless. I guess that definition doesn’t include ‘innocent’, which I think is one of the things I associated ‘Pure Hearted’ with. So if Twilight is using that definition, than I guess the song lyric isn’t that problematic.
Unicorns in the human world would come to maidens that are ‘pure of heart’, and/or virgins, so it’s an interesting contrast to the pure hearted Twilight Sparkle. Do most ponies consider themselves ‘pure of heart’, or at least that to be a trait honored in Equestrian society? It’s hard to think of a society that doesn’t value it. It still seems to at least be a vain thing to proclaim.
So what do you think? Am I over thinking this? Putting too little thought into this?
