Saying "continuous fire" in Minbari* · 9:43am Feb 8th, 2016
Thanks, Imgur. Thanks a whole fing lot.
I, like pretty much everyone else I know, assumed that the site was an image host that people used so they could hotlink to pics that a site that wouldn't/couldn't host locally. I just figured that the social-networky bits of voting and commenting on people's pics were a secondary thing, a bonus. Seems I was wrong. Apparently the whole voting/commenting thing is the whole purpose of the site, from what I can gather, and hotlinking is verboten.
How much stuff on this site has effectively vanished until links get updated? Profile page pics, images in image threads, visual jokes in comment threads... essentially gone. Come to that, how much stuff do I have to replace? I already fixed a pic on my profile page, but I have to consider blog entries, reviews, and a little item in one of my stories that I know for sure was affected. Sure, I mostly pull from Derpibooru for stuff, but not 100% of the time. Dammit, I don't want to mess with this right now.
Probably gonna delete everything I've got on Imgur and close my account. I mean, it's not like I use it much otherwise. And I'll have to figure out where I now want to put pics that I can use in the fashion required. (The main name I keep hearing presented as an alternative is a site called "imgbox", but I'm not really familiar with them.)
So yeah, I'm a little frustrated. So much so that I offer the following picture of my naked ass as a commentary on the whole thing:
*The Minbari are an alien race in Babylon 5, one of my all-time favorite TV shows. Cooperation between humans and Minbari grows during the series, and the title came from a scene involving a human captain overseeing a largely Minbari spaceship crew. In the scene, the captain gets some bad news and growls a mild expletive. In response, the ship's gunners cut loose, blasting their weapons into empty space non-stop. The captain orders them to quit and asks what's going on. The captain's liason/translator explains:
"Ah, hell" is Minbari for "continuous fire".

I would recommend puush as a replacement service, since it's apparently made specifically for this purpose. Personally, I don't have it, as I've always made do with TinyPic and Imgur and other such sites, but a friend of mine does. He claims it's one of the quickest and easiest ways there is to capture and upload images with a URL. One time, he did a mass upload of a bunch of images for me for a project I was working on, because it would've taken hours otherwise. Lo and behold, over a year later, the image links are still holding on that blog of mine. Except for one of the gifs for some reason.
Might be worth a look, right?
Yeah, I reuploaded my one fanfic picture with Postimg for the moment, but I'm not sure if I'm sticking with it.
I was also thinking about Swiftpic, and may look around more. I still have the image to fix on my user page. I don't even want to think about the front page images on the multitude of groups I admin...

Hells, I didn't even think of that...
