Goodbye Maurice White · 2:15am Feb 5th, 2016
The same day that we have learned of the tragic death of Joe Alaskey, the year of death has claimed another life. Maurice White, the founder of Earth, Wind, and Fire died yesterday night at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 74.
Earth, Wind, and Fire is a nine-piece band, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, and has continued to perform even as Maurice himself retreated from the public as he struggled with parkinson's disease.
Maurice's legacy and contributions to Rock and Roll will live on through the band that he helped to create. But although he has not performed with them for over a decade now, it will be still undeniably be hard for them to perform knowing that he is no longer with them in anything but spirit.
Two in around 48 hr, time span....what are the odds! I mean, the last leap year (2012) brought so many celebrity deaths, but none so early in the year (with the exceptions of Don Cornelius and Whitney Houston, both February, 2012). *sighs*..we lose ANOTHER rock legend in weeks....
3733779 It seems like that was an apparent suicide.
3733771 Oh yes, I remember Whitney Houston's death. I believe it was around the time of either the oscars, or the academy awards. It was a pretty big loss.
Only two months into 2016, and we lost so many great people...
3733779 O.M.G! Triple!...
3733782 yes, Don Cornelius- 2/01/12. Whitney Houston- 2/11/12 (it doesn't help that this aired 3 days later)
3733795 At this rate, I shudder to think who else we're going to lose this year.
3733805 Eeyup.
It sucks that we've lost so many talented people this year already.
3733956 This really is the year of death. We've lost David Bowie a.k.a "Ziggy", Alan Rickman a.k.a Hans Gruber and Professor Severus Snape, Dan Haggerty a.k.a "Grizzly Adams", Brian Bedford a.k.a Disney's Robinhood, Glenn Frey, Abe Vigoda, Joe Alaskey a.k.a one of Mel Blanc's Looney Tunes successors, Maurice White, and Dave Mirra. And all in just the first few weeks of the year.
3733962 I hope that we'll still have the rest of the talented people for years to come, including a favorite actor of mine; Akira Takarada. I really hope he's still around for a long time.
