So I'm really surprised people are up in arms about this. I mean, it was kinda obvious that she was going to be an alicorn. I mean, it's kinda obvious. I would have been shocked if it wasn't an alicorn or if it was a colt instead of a filly. That would have shocked me.
Anyway, it's kinda funny to me how people are going this:

My only negative reaction was fridge horror when we discussed the skull in anatomy lecture and how the baby's skull isn't a solid mass so it'll fit better through the birth canal and I looked at that long horn and I shuddered.

I just tell those people that that's the entire purpose behind the show, and it's as good as it is because of the people behind the scenes.
I have mixed feelings, since the two ascended alicorns we know of had to earn their way into alicornhood, and the other two govern celestial bodies.
I worry that making the kid an alicorn without anything 'special' happening, will make being an alicorn itself less special. I mean, two generations from now, and there's probably a bunch of alicorns running around.
Not exactly excited about it myself, but than again I've imagined Twilight and Flash's foal as an alicorn, so I really don't have any room to complain. Let's just assume that this is an extremely rare, one in a million chance occurrance of an ascended alicorn giving birth to another alicorn who is mortal just like them. That's what I'm going to do.
Also, everyone's right, this is just a stupid fucking gimmick to sell more toys, and even if that's the point of the show, Hasbro is realy pushing it.

I don't think people are up in arms that she exists. I think it's more about the design. She'd be cute, but the adult sized wings and horn ruin the aesthetic.

I am a little annoyed that she was born an alicorn. I know we don't have the story behind Celestia and Luna but we went through Twilight ascending. It feels bad that a baby gets it for free.

People are overreacting again. Just like they did all the times before when Twilight became an alicorn, when Equestria Girls and Flash Sentry were introduced, and several villains turned good, none of which I found to be bad at all. It's sad how they seem to be looking for something to hate instead of being excited about it and welcoming it.

My only issue with Twilight becoming an alicorn is that they kinda rushed it. I think the S3 finale should have been a 2 parter.
Thing is... Twilight ASCENDED, as proper. This baby alicorn shit is nothing but bullshit, in my opinion.

That's also really my only problem with this. The design is a little jarring when you take Pound Cake, Pumpkin Cake and Baby Applejack into account. Flurry Heart is probably a newborn, yet she looks older than them and he horn and wings are larger than normal, but I have a strong feeling that the design will grow on me.

If any one cares... I think that alicorns "ascending" is a much better idea than being born. Because Twilight and Cadance had to go through a learning process to become alicorns (and I don't really see any reason to think that Celestia and Luna didn't). It doesn't mean that I think that maybe an alicorn that is born as such can't become a good alicorn (whatever it is that they do that is important...) as I think that being raised from the crib to do something can be an interesting idea too. I just think that it's stupid and unnecessary to do this, when both Twilight and Cadance were born unicorn and pegasus. That thing looks like it has congenital special snowflake syndrome. If it was from a fic, it would shot down by the audience before Cadance could see it.

People keep saying that the book says this, but it doesn't. All it says is that they were found by Star Swirl as alicorns. It makes no mention about them being born as alicorns. It's not that I prefer one or the other, it just annoys me to see this all over.

Well, considering Shining's reaction in the leaked footage, I think we can assume that it wasn't really known that Alicorn stuff was a gene that could be passed on? Maybe it's a dominant gene that can only be passed on to a child from a parent? (Hinting at Celestia and Luna being "innocent"?

The show starts out with two alicorns who control the sun and moon, respectively. (That makes sense, I suppose.)
They bring in Cadance. (...you know what? I can accept this.)
Twilight becomes an alicorn. (We all knew this was coming. God knows we've seen enough Disney movies to know.)
Shining and Cadance become the proud parents of an alicorn baby. (Hasbro's running out of material.)
I'm not kidding, either. We've all seen this happen before. A series will begin to run out of ideas and start overmilking their most popular asset to keep things rolling, which is what brings it to an end.
We all knew this day would come. And now it's on the horizon, slowly inching closer.
